Anybody into RC FPV/VR racing/flying?

I'm getting into this hobby as something to do besides gaming and I've been looking for a way to integrate the RF video signal into a HD monitor for a bigger/better picture.  The RC community loves to get out the soldering iron and do some fairly technical electrical work with the circuit boards while I'm just looking for a simple Plug n Play setup.

    I've actually been looking at getting into this myself. Glad someone asked here. It combines all aspects I enjoy, building, soldering and programing and a bit of FPV.

    You chould check out some of the micro FPV drones out there as well for indoors flying. Banggood has these tiny little Eachine drones that are growing in popularity.

    If you are looking to stay away from soldering look for some Ready to fly kits, rather than DYI kits.

    I have a $50 walmart RC drone that I mounted a RF camera onto for FPV.  You really can't beat the sensation you get from flying one of these things from the seat of the craft.  

    The single screen goggles are starting to become a really good buy if you get the ones that have a HDMI port.  Those have HD resolution and you can watch movies on them as well for a IMAX kind of effect.

    I have a smaller quadcopter as well, mostly learning line of sight flying, it's fun but I'm ready to move up. As for goggles, the single screen googles are nice for immersion, bad if you get motion sickness.

    I do a lot of back country exploring with my SxS and ATV's where I live. The drone is great for seeing what's around that next corner and whether that washout is worth the trouble getting over.

    I like them because for one they're cheap with good screen resolution and second the front half slides off and has a tripod connector so you can use it as a little FPV screen without the sight restrictions of the goggles. It's nice to have when you're first starting out.

    The auto-hover option removed all of the issues I had with throttle and rotate so I can just set it at the height I want to fly and go to town with it.  Auto-Launch/Land are surprisingly useful as well.  Those features might seem like training wheels to the pros but for people just starting it prevents alot of crashes.


    What's great is the prices on all these components are dropping steadily while the flight characteristics of the copters and the quality of the FPV is going up.  It's a good time to get into this hobby.
