far to much progression is locked behing choreographed raids that are no fun
They fixed that a long time ago, you can get near raid gear from contracts, World bosses, Arcterra, and soon, Prime dungeons and expeditions, you can also progress without gear with the primal matrix.
To help you avoid some wasted time, if the raids and/or are what you don't like I wouldn't bother. Housing and raids are bar none considered the best parts of the game.
That said they are not required by any means, and actually I don't know where you got the idea that progression was locked behind them any more than it is in any MMO with raids? Like, they've always been optional unless you want the BiS gear...which is typically where you get it in most MMOs.
Despite other posts here, not trying to steer you away from it, just present a little perspective. Nothing worse than getting to endgame and gearing up just to find that you don't enjoy what the game excels at.
Thanks for the info! I think it would be worth another look. I really wish I was new the genre again as my problems with the current model are there due to just playing it too much. It's more me than it
If you have the bandwidth and drive space it's a no risk deal. I think if you're feeling a little genre fatigue though this will nothing to alleviate that. I can relate to that.
Not fatigue with the medium, just the current prevalent model. More options that are preferable to me are coming in time so I just have to be patient. In the meantime I play older titles or ones that allow more than one progression path. It's nice to have flexibility.
For those who love it I hope the changes make you happy. The game was very boring to me and the Combat was unbearable. I tried the game twice and see no reason to give it a third strike.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
How about everyone here goes out and downloads it and starts playing and get as many of your friends to join?
This. Quit wondering and just play it ffs, it's FREE
Also! Double xp this weekend.
My free time is free of responsibilities, not value. I have less of it which means it is actually more valuable, far more than any standard pricing model. Since my question wasn't addressed I'll assume that linear questing is a requirement of progression and stick with my current rotation of games.
Sometimes it's more productive to address the specific question rather than question why there's a question, especially if you want to build a population of a game you enjoy.
Linear questing is a part of every MMO in existence except EvE (and now ESO) and one or two other exceptions I can't recall off the top of my head, that shouldn't have even been a question.
There are dungeons you can use to level up as well, but with a low population you already know (or should know) that they are infrequent pops.
There is a double XP event this weekend, so if you don't like the leveling process it's the perfect time to avoid as much of it as you can...
You're asking a question you already know the answer to (or should, because leveling experiences are pretty constant) and really you're looking for a reason NOT to try it that you know (or should) damn well hasn't been transformed. So instead I pointed out that this weekend you can level up quickly.
I could have said all that the first time but for anyone with a brain this was all implied.
There are indeed a handful of titles that you can level via dungeons, doing events, or just grinding mobs (WoW, GW2, EQ, DAoC to name a few). Yes I understand that the majority of MMOs tailor thier progression specifically to a series of linear quest chains which is why I was asking because I want to avoid it. It's been a while since I even gave WS a thought and this article made me think how enjoyable the Medic game play was, but not enough to use my free time if linear questing is a part of the requirement.
If you enjoy WS and want to see the population grow you shouldn't post about it. You've thus far show to be more of a bane than a boon.
You can do that in any game, it's a matter of efficiency. The ONLY game I know of where you MUST complete quests is FFXIV.
I won't miss not having one person around, particularly one who is having this hard of a time with such simple concepts without having it spelled out.
Also won't miss someone who is basing the game on one person who plays it....not very intelligent.
In absence of a shovel use both hands I guess
You posed an argument, I countered it and you have nothing but more insults. I've played in this genre long enough to know "what is what", enough to ask pointed enough questions to make decisions if I don't know the specifics of a certain title. No need to get mad and be a prickly eThug. All I'm saying is if you want to be part of a community, in game or places like here, you have a choice in how you contribute or take away from that community. Food for thought.

That's fair. Because of games like this and ESO I now find tab-target combat to be unbearable, lol. Always interesting to hear how things impact others.
I love the theme and graphics are ok, hate the game play but wish them well. If they offered leveling potions or scrolls I would come back and try it again.

Same here. I just can't get into tab-targeting anymore.
Also, I always hear how people hate the aesthetics and style of WildStar, which just blows me away, because I thought that was the best part. I LOVE the intentionally over-the-top Saturday morning cartoon look and feel of everything.
Anyways, very excited for the new changes. Leveling a Spellslinger now to get back into things after a break.
