Look forward to Tree of Savior month from now and hoping WOW: Legion to deliver, still too early to know though for sure. Marvel Heroes Online another F2P I enjoy "casually" and some Counter Strike on side.
Moving and dodging in combat: You can't stand still and skill rotate in GW2, certain classes like warrior and ranger doesn't need you to focus so much on this though but other classes like thief lives on that.
First night I played a warrior and it was pretty cool.
Tonight I made a ranger and I am digging it even more.
Are both classes fun/balanced/strong? I still have the fear long time MMO players have that they'll pick a class that ends up crappy.
And while I will always likely play solo a lot (or small group with my wife and/or kiddos), I am not opposed to joining a guild if I could find a good sized one that is casual friendly.
My suggestion would be TERA ... very suitable to casual play and very playable without paying cash. Gunner or brawler are good solo classes and the graphics are still amazing.
Can you get anymore solo friendly than FFXI ?It gives you a full party of npc's to work with,it has numerous ways to get bonus xp,No other game goes this far.Even the dailies are not even dailies, just set them to auto repeat and go to town.Bonus rings for xp,chain killing for xp,books for bonus xp and all casual no pressure to do anything or complete anything except when you want to. Killing mobs so no need to run all over looking for yellow markers, zone lines to run away if get links, sub class system so need to go back and do it all over again on another player,no need to repeat the same quests, yep not what i wanted from the game but at this point it is the most casual friendly soloist game.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Bit of a leftfield option but to give it some balance here goes ok as you haven't made any preference let me just throw in EvE this game is very solo friendly, as long as you dont like pvp, then once in game you can earn your game time with in game credits, i have played this game solo for last 5-6 years as a manufacturer, but in fact do have of friends etc in game, just only via trade/social chat channels Also with my link below (or in the eve sub-forum) you can check the game out free
Have you ever tried Champions Online? It's an older game, but it is the most casual friendly game I have ever played. Even at endgame I can hop on for 30 minutes after work with one of my level 40s (cap) look for and finish a cosmic fight (end game boss) and log off for dinner.
It's F2P with a cash shop, but you won't need to pay a cent to play any of the endgame content as long as you pick your class well. I would suggest Unleashed or Behemoth for someone just starting out. And if you like it, you can get a paid free-form slot and get one of the most customizable character development systems in any MMO. Pick whatever skills, specializations, and stats you want. Want to be a sword wielding speedster with magic powers and psionics, go for it. (that particular combination would really suck, but you COULD do it).
BDO get's my vote. But yeah, you'd have to shell out money. You can do one of the free trials first though, and see if you consider it worth it or not.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
I haven't played in a while, but one of my favorite casual mmorpgs with a great story is Lord of the Rings Online. I have played all mmorpg's out there, and I have to say it has THE best community of them all.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Lord of the Rings online? Wow I haven't played that game in years, last time I installed I don't remember it holding up well at all in terms of showing its age etc
BDO Its beauty it's that it can be both Casual and Hardcore. If you are not interested in PvP, you can play this game as Casually as you like, it will give you lots of satisfaction. If however you want to seriously PvP, prepare to say goodbye to your social life, as gearing up is going to be a quest of epic proportions.
As someone suggested, give The Secret World a try. It is very different from other MMO's and working out the clues can be very fun. I played it with friends once a week and we tried to do all the quests without using the internet. Was tons of fun and if we could not figure something out in an evening, we just googled it and moved on to the next part of the story.
One of the cool things is you can build any kind of character you want. Want a pistol wielding sword chick? No problem. Want a shotgun toting magic user, no problem. If you want something different, this could be the one for you.
If you are into crafting and the non-violent side of games, Black Desert has tons of stuff like pet/horse breeding, fishing, farming, cooking and exploration. I log in and just fish or work on leveling up horses to breed. I can play it casually and there is no sub fee.

Not sure what all the negativity surrounding ESO in this thread is all about, its a not a bad game and even though it may not be for you, you cannot deny the quality of that game. Its one of the best MMO's out there today, and I'm saying this as someone who struggled to get into it.
World of Warcraft on Moon Guard or Wyrmsrest Accord
Very casual servers (with one exception to Wyrmsrest has the hardcore RP players), very solo friendly and random groups. A lot of people do Looking for raid on those two servers. Plus very friendly communities (with the exception of Moon Guard goldshire, rest of the server is fine)
Most social, friendly experience I've experienced in WoW. Tons of casual players, lots of socialness in chat and around the world. And if you are into RP, Moon Guard has a lot of walk up RP (Wyrmsrest is more closed). And if you aren't into RP, not everyone RPs in Moon Guard (a lot less so in Wyrmstooth).
On Moon Guard, you have to be open minded and less uptight about things as there is a BDSM/ERP community there. If you get offended easily, it won't be the server for you.
WoW in general is very casual friendly, and has a TON of content.
My Skyrim, Fallout 4, Starbound and WoW + other game mods at MODDB:
I have no prejudice against that community but I don't want to have to deal with BDSM/ERP when I play. More RP for you and power to you and the fun you have.

So far GW2 is pretty fun (only played for about an hour so far).
Is it worth it to pick up the expansion? Does it make the game more fun?

Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!
SWTOR is great for solo leveling the first time. WOW is fine if you're OK with sub prices.
I regret buying the GW2 expansion as that game has tons of issues.

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

2. WOW Legion
3. SWTOR
GW2 or BDO are options as well though i didn't care for them personally.
