Is the game good? I have ARK and enjoy it but this looks almost exactly the same?

It's an OK game, still early days.  I prefer Ark at the moment, but Ark has been out a fair while and has had extra content added.  I'm sure CE will get there.

It's a pretty tough game if you habitually solo because the mobs aggro from way off and the combat system isn't the greatest yet.  Ranged combat is very ineffective.  At least it encourages co-op play I suppose.  :)

This idea is a two sided coin as i have seen it years ago with the Unreal community.
The idea of running your own server is a great idea ,except one very big problem,SMALLISH population and it segregates the entire gaming population into small clusters.

We see it in these very forums a LOT,people asking and wanting LARGE scale battles and with this game,it is pretty much impossible.
Furthermore it becomes a race and TIME spent over anything else.Get the fastest strongest fort and best weapon and that is your entire game in a nutshell.

As to the last poster....Ranged combat  is quite effective if your enemy cannot reach you which i have seen often, including a recent Ripper X video here.

Its the PVE aspect that draws and makes CE stand out for me. I like the idea of private servers being able to provide a quality gaming environment for like minded people.

I find the game very immersive, I'm really liking it.

What stops me from buying Conan Exiles is two things:

    1) The game is from Funcom and early steam reviews are bad. Lag, disconnections... typical Funcom. I'm gonna wait a bit anyway.
    2) The monotony of the landscape. Only desert, a couple of palm trees, more desert, some desert ruins, more desert. No diversity. For F's sake, this is Conan, where are the snows of Cimeria ?

So I just wait and see for now. Dark and Light seems way more promising at least for point 2).
Well of course you shouldn't purchase it. However, it's just the first map, the rest should be updated at some point though what areas they will include is unknown to me.

There are many green areas fyi.

But yeah, this is a true early access game, doesn't have everything and does need work. People SHOULD be staying away if they aren't ok with that.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

On the other hand, my team and I spent half our team meeting discussing the *ahem* physics engine and all the questions that we simply felt a need to answer. There could be hours of fun just investigating those questions, which could justify the purchase.

Dude, the developers have all ready said this first map is just a hint of what is to come.   The landmass when complete will encompass a wide range of terrain and environments that include swamps, temperate, steppes and mountainous regions and measure over 200 sq miles.  That is massive!
