If you looked way way back to some of my earliest posts many years ago,i questioned release dates.

How can ANY developer announce a definitive release date into the future without knowing the state of their product? If the game is absolutely polished and ready, then release it,if  NOT polished and ready, then you have no business announcing a release date.

Would be nice if this website and others would step up and critique decisions like these instead of always looking for a partnership and $$$.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Being that Darkfall was originally released in 2009 and ran through 2012, the game is a finished product that had its code purchased by the Rise of Agon people and "tuned up". As for partnership? Surely you jest. It's a simple recitation of a news piece they put on their site, nothing more, nothing less.

I haven't properly read up on the game but are there really? I thought this game was niche at best when originally released and with it now being spread between several iterations I can't see the audience being anything but small. I might be wrong but lots of guilds getting ready for this would really surprise me tbh. For those planing to play I hope I am wrong, these games stand or fall with a healthy community.

I remember the original Darkfall and how people actually thought it was Vaporware right up till release. I don't think the reviews wre very favourable back then but I never really  trust those. If I have a bit of time i might actually give it a shot. Second kid around the corner though so time might be very limited.

I cant wait to play Darkfall again. I loved it when it first came out. The feeling that you got doing any gathering away from your clan area, running anywhere with anything on you, it just was super tense. Even long trips that should have been boring were intense because you could get grouped up on at any moment. It was a fun game, with a lot of issues, but I loved my time with it. I'm hoping this server is ran alright, and that it can bring about at least a small playerbase so I can continue to have fun with it. It was pretty stable last time I tried this version of the game, but putting time into it now would be pointless.

And thats the problem. Just having the code "tuned up" isnt going to accomplish much because the original Darkfall was a mess.

So, it doesnt matter how much you polish it, a turd is still a turd.

New Dawn may be able turn things around for the IP because they are actually making fundamental changes. But, the user base interested in the game will be split between this version, Unholy War, and New Dawn pretty much ensuring that none will do well.

We don't like the idea of hard specialisations as this limits creativity and choices. We are however going to expand on the ways to customise your play style preference and already are doing this through a revamped staff system with bonuses and tradeoffs. Expect more choices like this through additional revamps in armour and additional specialisations to better customise your character.

Yep as stated we removed the points where people could afk macro and implemented a scroll/essence system for those skills. This simultaneously ended macroing on 90% of the skills and opened a new market for these materials and a new crafting skill. Oh and we've implemented tracking on mobs as well so you won't be able to afk macro the remaining 10% of skills not covered in the scroll system!

We addressed the issues of the gap between new and veteran characters and made the game casual friendly (You CAN have a life and play Rise of Agon too now!). We even created an in game macro system so you can bind as many skills/items to a slot and choose cycle, burst or first available mode. We've eliminated the need to use scripts and are planning to add more options to this system in the future. Oh we also made a new GUI as well :).

BPG was founded by ex players from the original DFO and more than 90% of our 35+ member volunteer roster are DF veterans. We know the pain points all too well and will always maintain a by the community for the community mentality. We are constantly discussing ideas and feedback brought from the players on our forums so check it out and get involved with the future of our game!

So what you are saying is that people might actually play New Dawn? A PvE server would bring in tons more players. I guess Aventurine on down to these new " devs " still want to beat their head against the same wall. Good for them I guess.

You just sold this to me brother. I especially like:

"We addressed the issues of the gap between new and veteran characters and made the game casual friendly (You CAN have a life and play Rise of Agon too now!)."

Any true pvp game that wants to survive needs to realize this is a must. Too many ability/gear based pvp games allow the strong to feed on the weak and perpetually widen the gap between the two. There is a niche "hardcore" pvp crowd lives for this crap so they can grief without a sweat 24/7. All this does is eventually make the casuals who cannot play hours upon hours at a time give up. We play games for fun, after all. Not much fun in being the equivalent of a mob providing xp to no-lifers.
