MMOs kind of reflect other entertainment in general...They may look prettier but they dont have any substance and leave alot to be desired as far as a game goes......One more time Please stop making quest/story driven games and give us a world to explore...Enough of this other stuff already
Unfortunately real world happiness plays to much a role in my game enjoyment.
This point cannot be stressed enough.
When asked about "how happy people are about games, movies, music, etc...." their answer is HUGELY swayed by their own mental happiness at the time.
Its a poll more about personal happiness in general than about state of MMOs.
Ask people on a good day and their answers will likely be rosy and positive.
Catch em after a breakup or some kind of hardship and its like the sky fell down.
I dont find that to be the case at all....Outside of MMOs Im a happy person...I have alot of friends and plenty to do, but it would be nice to have a fun MMO where Im not just going through the story/quest motions for the last 12 years

I concur. Basing how you feel about particular things in this world just because of how you feel at the moment sounds to me more like how women are wired.
MMO's today are all about the in-game stores. There really isn't any more decision making, doesn't matter if you hit a mob with a sword spell or whatever they die. Use to be where you had to think what do I use on this one or that one. ESO has done a great job with the stories/quests but the whole game is really nothing but hack and slash, and of course the store.

The mmo scene has changed a lot which just caused people to simply move on but at the same time it is a mix with the fact that mmos are not made with love but more for business than to try to keep people happy.
"Overall, We have a great ballance of styles with something for everyone and everyone is happy" <---That is what we should be aiming for. I really wish this was the case.
The acronym MMORPG use to mean Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.
But the acronym MMMORPG now currently means Microscopic Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. Kappa.

MMO's were ALWAYS made to make money. You are fooling yourself if you think different.

Thanks for stating the obvious sherlock(and thinking I'm implying that I think different), the point is they are aiming for larger audiences trying to make larges amounts of money instead of making their own game they want WoW's revenue.

For those of us who were part of the original demographic for video games obviously, things have become a lot more dull for us. They have been changed a lot so as not to offend parents and various other groups. There was once a time when mothers and women in general, wanted nothing to do with video games. Even athletes often thought of them as a nerdy thing and stayed away. It was a small group of people who drove the industry forward and allowed it to get to a point where it could appeal to a larger base of people by adding a lot of conveniences. Due to the small demographic and interest, most video games were developed by those who were spending most of their time on computers or consoles fooling around with operating systems and things of that nature. Those people really did love what they did. Since the market for those games wasn't very big developers didn't care much about nickel and diming people. They just wanted to get something out there that would sell and gave control the to the developers who knew what their fellow gamers wanted (most people had similar game interests in those days). I believe the developers were more passionate about their games because they were just kids experimenting with a new technology. They had freedom to make what they wanted to make. Not much else was available at the time. Most of these things were new frontiers. Now developers don't have the luxury. They have to worry about taking surveys and pleasing every demographic out there. That often makes the games fairly bland as they are not catering to any one group's passions and even they did it's likely no group exists today to give an identity for what all gamers enjoy. There is no general consensus anymore. That is why gaming has suffered for those who were originally part of it IMO.

"Overall, MMO's do not step outside of the norm and take a risk for something original enough, it's more of a business that can have a game so long as they are guaranteed a paycheck, and people are idiot consumer sheep or wolves that whine too much and will gladly take a big dump all over it"
