I agree women in the work place typically are not treated the same as men. In wages, positions, and honestly how they are treated and viewed in general. I travel to many different businesses in my RL job and I see it all over, my office included. I would say at upper positions CEO/COO/CFO/Controller it is 70% men. I honestly think the older generation is just set in their ways too much to change. The only thing that will fix the problem is the old retiring and a newer generation taking over. Need a whole new mindset in general to truly balance things out, and that will just take time.
But sadly things like staying home from work and such will make no difference. Those that are biased will not be effected at all and might even do some retaliatory measures (no promotion, less raise ect), and those who feel true equal rights should be something we strive for already support women in this regards. People already know the inequality exist this will not change many peoples minds one way or the other.
The extreme feminist Us vs Them I never understand and I think it is honestly more harmfull then good in thier movement, because it is painting things in black and white which is never the case. There are always those at the extremes but it is never the picture of the whole.
What is the point of this article? As a woman, I prefer not to see articles like this here. I am here to discuss games; this is an invitation for sexist and misinformed comments. Like this one, for example.
Yes, fewer women in gaming day. Also known as "the day it was confirmed that mobile gaming does not make someone a gamer." This isn't to say that women don't play and enjoy a large variety of games, but more pointed at those stupid statistics which say nonsense like, 50-60% of gamers are women!" Playing candy crush on the bus doesn't make you a gamer anymore than me going for a jog makes me an athlete.
While the march will have more meaning in a broader sense, it definitely won't have any impact in the world of gaming. Sorry. Most women still think gaming is lame.
Maybe some women think playing candy crush makes you a gamer, but I don't. I've never played candy crush; I bet I play the same games that you do. I doubt that any woman who visits this site regularly would agree with you.

There's plenty of men acting like females on video games you wont notice.
But in all seriousness. Women are very important and I'm glad they got equal rights. Problem is now men are being discriminated against in the workforce as a result. But thats for another time and day.
Umm women dont have equal rights, not even close.
Men dont either, at least not all men.
Inequality and discrimination happens to almost everyone, however some especially in specific parts of the world are FAR worse off.
But saying that women having equal rights is just painfully wrong - unless you are ignoring large parts of the world.
Usually when people talk equal rights they mean the west. You can't do anything about everywhere else unless they have oil.
while west has equal rights - just how equal are they in reality?
That you felt the need to warn about this in the very first reply is a blinking neon sign warning that the article shouldn't have existed.
Agreed. There's something about gaming journalists in general across a lot of sites, that makes them feel like they can post political stuff and that people actually want to read it. I enjoy games to escape politics and real life. Can we go back to just being about gaming here?
just going to drop this here, I work on HR and I never saw a men working on the same place, doing the same thing getting paid more then a woman, but at the same time I see more men working overtime staying to complete jobs and not just get the time then get up and go home(both sexes do this and if you work to the goverment everyone on that fucking place is lazy and don't work right, guess is that is why they work for goverment in any company they would be fired).
but then again what is experience right? we have to agree and belive what "especialists" and "the news" says they would never lie to us.
I could bring a hell a lot of thing men get the short straw on several thing here, but serious there is no point, I will just cherish this day as a good quiet day without anyone nagging people online, and check who I will have to discount this day of work who had the stupidity ofnot going to work(I will possible had to pass some warnings too since we can't really fire anyone for that)
and funny enough the people who matter be male or female will not care about this kind of thing and will be living the same way, the others who like to do this, serious will not be missed

I don't believe in "escaping real life". Sorry, I don't. Real life is always there and I believe in an integration of everything so that everything can be kept in perspective. I'm ok with "fluff pieces" in my news and I'm ok with serious pieces in my fluff sites.
Now, does that mean I'm going to be marching in "day without women" activities? No, not really. But I'm ok that others want do do this and feel they need to do this.
The world has so many things that I don't care about or that don't pertain to me. I "could" be annoyed and throw a fit or be pissy whenever I come across something that is not about me or I could just say "that's about others" and move on.

Like I said, there ARE women who enjoy all sorts of games. Like my wife, she's a gamer. But it's disingenuous to pretend that women like you aren't the exception to how most women think of gaming. I was pretty specific that I was poking fun at the survey's that say a majority of gamers are women, so my point was not aimed at women who visit mmorpg.com.

I don't think this article needs to be on this site. The same way you don't need one for international mens day because gaming isn't about gender.
agreed i cant stand females who feel the need to shout gamer girl every chance they get. do i care your a female? NO! can we game together? YES! will it be epic? damn straight! the end!

How do really know how many women are gamers, though? Men play women, and women play men. I have a friend who's a female that prefers playing male characters (so we can't go by that). I rarely take survey's to discuss my gaming habits. So how do really really know? Most of it is assumptions; we really don't know who is behind the screen.

I stopped reading after about 2 pages so I'm not sure if the silliness of this has been stated.
If you are partaking of this by not going to work then yes, your absence will be noticed. Not because you are a woman but because you are not working. You are one less cog in the machine that is your workplace. Your absence might be detrimental to your place of work. Again not because of your gender but because of your lack of work. I can't think of off hand what job that a woman can do but a man can't. I'm might be missing some.
But, if this whole thing is supposed to be more esoteric then I agree that we should as the human race be thankful for the biological contributions many woman make every second. We would not exist as a species if not for them.
But to be thankful for women because they choose to work for a living or choose to play games then I see no point. I thank the human race for doing the above, no gender specific callout is needed.

I absolutely don't have a problem with her reading and commenting on it AND hating it. Not an issue. Nothing.
I'm responding to her agreement (and Quizzical for that matter) that the article shouldn't exist and perhaps the possible insinuation that this site is about "escaping real life".
edit: I also wonder, if I went through her posts, if she has ever commented on the changing of game content for whatever reason and then thinking it's censorship. Or anyone for that matter as that would be surprising. Probably not but when I see people say "no" to something on certain grounds I wonder if there they pick and choose depending on personal tastes.
