Cant wait, was a good fun game. Then it went sideways with the companies and left for dead. Will be good to get back to crafting and blasting. :)

i hate it when these things happen, I was excited and bought into the game for the concept, and there is no promise this will be anything like what I was hyped about.

I will check it out though, and give it a fair shake. If they can fix the animations, and make the game a bit cleaner but keep the spirit I am game.

Their recovery from the Hero Engine debacle is amazing honestly, i don't think anyone really expected them to do that, hopefully they can finish the game now :o

I know I didn't, thought it was dead. Good first move the new owners, get people back to playing.

they didn't recover from the Hero Engine debacle, they got bought out by Idea Fabrik, the people that own Hero Engine

This is one of the few games which I actually supported with a founder pack or whatever it was called back then and when it went down the drain I was really disappointed and that was what made to promise myself never to support an unpublished title ever, but seeing that things are taking a turn for better I might change my views.

Quite looking forward to this game. There were some really interesting ideas.

I hope that really was not the case as that would really be the worst case scenario and probably the deathblow to the game, if its still using Hero Engine that is, was under the impression that they were using a new game engine. O.o

    From the article:

In response to the amazing support from fans, Idea Fabrik PLC is excited to announce the acquisition of “The Repopulation” game from Above and Beyond Technologies, Inc. and the relaunch of the title in the first quarter of 2017.  Following the successful resolution of outstanding issues, all players of “The Repopulation” will be able to log in with the same account information as soon as the testing of the game is concluded.

Interesting reading, unless i am misunderstanding things, Idea Fabrik is the company that caused The Repop to go into meltdown in the first place, and now they have jumped in and bought up all the assets, seems like a hostile take over tbh. I would be more than a little concerned about what happens with the game now, as i seriously doubt all is as it seems, and i certainly wouldn't invest any money in it under any circumstances. Should be interesting though and i can see this being good for popcorn retailers. O.o

Well, I invested $150 in 2012 as a 1st round backer if I recall correctly but within a year or so realised it didn't look like it was ever going to succeeed and that I'd wasted my money. That seemed to be confirmed when the whole project was pulled and converted to a yet another survival game as they tried to rebuild it with the Unreal engine from scratch.

However, now that Idea Fabrik have taken over the project, at least they have the ability to capitalise on all the original foundations and carry on where the original development ceased without having to start from scratch with a new engine. I'm still not convinced of it's success but I think that's the best chance it's got.

I'll download the new alpha build and give it a whirl on Sunday night and see how it compares with the last time I took a look a couple of years ago or more. It will be good if they can pull it off.

Open world PvX. There are safe areas and contested ones. Like Archeage.

does happy panda dance been waiting for its return .The Repopulation is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game in a science fiction setting. In many ways it is a throwback to the social aspects and sandbox driven gameplay that made titles like Star Wars Galaxies and Ultima Online successful. But it also integrates more recent innovations and introduces an array of its own unique wrinkles.

    moo all

I backed this game a couple of years back. Did bucket loads of testing and playing and tested a bit of stuff directly with the devs at the time. Then the ship went belly up. I remember being extremely pissed with Idea Fabrik and so was the bulk of the community. So when I heard that IF had bought the game I LMFAO!

Then I made the effort to see what IF was saying in the forums and see how things were being proposed and what the game plan was etc. After I put my bias aside IF had some pretty solid things to say, and do, in regard to fixing some of the most glaring issues that had been previously present in the game. So "IF" IF can come out the gates with some of those major issues fixed it should go a long way to restoring and gaining some faith/trust from the community again. Myself and many others in the Repop community very heavily expressed a butt ton of skepticism upon Idea Fabrik from the outset of the announcement, as I am sure many of can well imagine, and yes I still remain very skeptical.

If somehow they can pull this off though, it could be a great thing. The Repop (imho) was shaping up to be a solid open world sandbox PvX game with a player crafted economy set in a cool sci-fi setting with base building and sieges and 3 faction PvP. Where am I going to find that anywhere else in the near future? Star Citizen? BWHAHAHAHAHA! :p Sorry I digress, will definitely be giving Repop another go and recommend anyone interested or curious to at least go and have a look at what IF have planned, and if they get it wrong? Well then we can openly crucify them if that's what is needed, but if they get it right? Well we just scored another one of those rare gems in this genre...an open world PvX true sandbox with a player ran and crafted economy in a sci-fi setting erma gerd wtf! O.o

Time, as always, will tell :)

Yes, coming back with no improvements ( same state it was in at shutdown ), a no name developer ( who already have 3 unreleased HeroEngine games in various states of suck ) working under Idea Fabrik, and a million and one trust issues. And being put back on sale through Steam in it's current busted ass state as well. Sorry, but Repop will be gone again in a few months. And I won't miss it at all. Only thing I miss is the money I foolishly gave these idiots over a year ago.

I can understand the doubts and the need for them to show proofs of what they can do before they can regain your trust, but I highly doubt this will be gone in a few months. You don't invest a significant amount of money in a game without at least trying to get it right, and everyone knows that doesn't happen in a few months.

If, by this time next year, they haven't shown significant progress and a good turnabout, then yeah, I would think we can be worried. In the meantime, maybe not shoot them down before they've had a chance to prove themselves? I understand you miss that money and that you weren't fully educated on crowdfunding project when you spent it, but you're doing yourself and the industry as a whole a disservice with your crappy attitude.

Played some last night. Had a blast, Great community. I forgot how hard core the crafting is. I really hope they are able to launch this bad boy. Tons of potential but already pretty fun!

I doubt new team will finish this game if original one couldnt, for such a long time. I feel they will just run it with minimal investment to try and sell some "boxes".
That's because you don't know the history of this project.

The developers of Hero Engine (IdeaFabrik) need this game to be successful, because that's their best hope for getting their engine to be recognised as a "viable platform" for MMO's.

If IdeaFabrik can't make Repopulation at least moderately successful, Hero Engine will be relegated to the pages of history and they can all start looking for new jobs...

Isn't Pantheon using the Hero engine?  Thought this game abandoned the Hero Engine for a move to Unreal 4?
