Now with the plans to make the game a full MMORPG, I will have to look into the game a little more. Not sure I can fit another game into my schedule but I like to at least check out most games to see what they're all about.
There are large defined safe zones on the official servers and then other areas where there are static guard towers so this isn't the typical total gank-fest. Or at least it sounds like it has a chance for some co-existence.
I hope they let me give out some trial keys to friends. I haven't played much because my friends don't want to plunk down $40 to try it.
Yeah, but there's the other half of the game world that is going to be griefer land with full theft. And if they do what most of those other games do, you won't be long before your quests will take you straight out there, or your new craft recipes will require materials that can only be obtained there.
*No, nobody will want to follow you around and play guard/babysitter.
*No, you won't be able to buy it on the open market and actually expect to make a profit, or even a non-loss when they won't pay half the cost of materials to make it if you had to buy them.
*I've never seen a guild help people with this, because the guildies don't want an escort mission either. Besides, only ghost guilds seem to be willing to pick up non-master crafters.
*Friends are great, but they have to be playing the same game, on the same schedule, and be willing to guard you as well, and even they will only do that a small chunk of the time, and rarely to the level of force needed to block the ganker gangs.
Does it sound like I've heard those lousy excuses before? Well I have, far too many times to count. They're weak and don't stand up to the gameplay reality. Sure, there are a very few and very rare exceptions out there, but it's not many, and I've looked for them before. It's easier to find the once a week rare spawn than it is one of those exceptions.
One server? I thought PVE types could have their own server.
Yeah, the original plan was that people could run their own "shard", with a ruleset they wanted if I recall correctly.
Now I'm glad I didn't back this game, or I'd have had to get a refund. Another reason why I will stick with my "fuck this crowdfunding bs" policy, them changing the game like that.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Um, you can still do private shards.
Can you? Huh, that article didn't make that very clear >.< That's good to know though, thanks!

Shards was such a better name. Catchy, and any game with a generic fantasy vowel based game is such a turn off...
A - it starts with A, first letter when games are listed alphabetically. This is why lame companies do this, for failing product. So at least people stumble on it by chance. (Just check game names and you will see whole bunch starting with A)
Just shows that quality development is now out the window, taken over by marketing coorporate monkeys

Don't worry, I'm sure the Cash Shop will be selling "crafter's packs" with resources, which will have a chance of containing some ultra rare crafting materials only found in the PVP zones !
The switch to full-loot PVP is probably motivated by the fact that nothing drives a Cash Shop as effectively as a PVP focus. Just look at games like "Game of War", they're apparently earning $1M per day currently...
Glad to see they are doing what it takes to succeed. No dedicated servers are a death sentence for the longevity of any mmo. Ddos is a bigger threat than ever and plagues any quality private server, while ddos protection becomes ever more expensive.
Why rename the game? Couldn't they have kept the original name and still made the same changes?
Probably because it's no longer about 1000 small shards run by players that no one cares about. I think this is a good move and so glad I backed this up in the day.
Terrible name change, and that logo - It communicates >cheap<. "Legend" and "Aria", it feels like there are 10 other games named similar to that (even though there might not be). However, I do understand the need to change the name when you change direction. No doubt it is a great game done by a very talented team, it only the name change I am commenting on.
I was hoping for the spiritual successor for the neverwinter nights series. And now they're just trying to appeal to the dying mmorpg consumer base, which will ditch them in an instant as soon as the new best thing comes around... What a mistake.
I don't think any of the planned features that would make it a NWN successor (awesome, btw) have gone away. In fact, the same tools would remain but the world is bigger and Citadel is now hosting their own server.

Hell ya im pumped ! the game always looked promising but the small populated shards being player hosted turned me away , as a old time UO player this game could be the mmo i been waiting for cant wait to test it out !
No, reason for the renaming is shards ..... most people thought 60 players fuck that.
So a rebranding gives them a new opportunity to market it as MMO with the ability of your own servers. Possible if you can afford the server farm to host for thousands of players.
For the assets. We have the lua code for scripts and can change most things. We cannot yet change graphics, nor make own world though it is planned. It is also planned to partly change the client, means you could change the look of the client.
Will be interesting to see what is possible with it.
If it took them many years to come this far in the development they have now how can they change so much overnight? Wouldn't it take a considerable amount of the time to make these changes?

Yeah, I'm not sure the leap from small shards to fully hosted large scale world is quite so easy.

WTF !!!!
The only good thing this game had going on was the possibility to make your own servers - with your own maps like NWN
Why is MMO dream constantly shooting itself in the leg

Did you forget to take your paranoia pills again? They changed the name for the most simple reason you clown
News flash folks, if you don't care enough to read other people's posts, what makes you think they want to read yours?

Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!

Still no plans for a cash shop.
They may run into "challenges"
