I mentioned earlier in the thread that MMORPG.com would not have asked any "tough" questions to the people running this game, in the hopes that they would be a paid advertiser or sponsor here. I was wrong. They have already paid MMORPG.com at least once to run an advertisement "article" here. As follows: Discussion / SPONSORED - Chronicles of Elyria - Soulbound's Dream MMO Kickstarter Begins Today. So they started paying MMORPG.com a while back. Expect no "biting of the wallet that feeds them". Edit Bah, link did not work.
Their ad banners have also been all over this site for the past few weeks or so.  Heck, I see one right underneath this forum posting box I'm typing in right now.
Which is frankly another problem: the people behind CoE continue to solicit people (suckers) to fork over cash for a game the devs admit will never be made without a major outside investor. And MMORPG.com is taking cash to assist in this scam. For a slice of the cash. That tells you all you need to know about what the people behind this site think about gamers, and is a new low for this place. Might be time to stop coming here....
I suspect at this point there are very few donating to this game now which aren't well aware of "the plan."

My take: They over promised to a fan base thats seen it before. Watched more then one project like this spin out and not have the experience at the helm to give any confidence to boot. I dont think we will see another SC again. Gamers know the risks of funding a game and Im not sure this one has what it takes even if they got the money. Great ideas alone do not make a MMO.

Maybe so. But unless things are disclaimed with: "We are making a tech demo, not a full game.." there is no way for a "donor" to know. And I doubt that is mentioned on the ads. It is still very shady, and MMORPG.com people have decided to take part in that, for cash.

They are not taking money under the table, they are taking money over the table from the CoE people. Soliciting money from "donors" at this point is not much different than a ponzi scheme: it is not enough money to make the actual game, which the devs have stated they can not do without an outside investor, so the cash being "donated" to buy fictional "packages" for a non-existent game, is being used in part to pay to raise MORE funds to "not actually make the game". MMORPG.com is raking off part of that for the ads. And at the end of it, the gamers who donated get nothing. The company gets free money to keep the lights on and pay themselves, MMORPG.com gets their ad dollars, and gamers lose. That is what I have a problem with.

Gamers are not that stupid. We know putting money down on a game thats in early development is a risk. We all know it takes millions to make even a small MMO. We know that game companies need to take out ads to bring in people. If anyone thinks this is a scam, it would only be because they are blind to open facts even a kid could see.

Maybe this is ok with you guys, but this is a bridge too far for me. First, this place started doing ad pieces and fluff jobs for paid advertisers without disclaiming they were paid to do them. Then they started reviewing the same games they were paid to advertise. Then, when that was not enough, they get paid a slice when they SELL those same games that they are both paid to review and advertise (see that store button?). And now, this place is selling ads for a company and getting paid by by a company for soliciting "donations" from gamers, without any disclaimers, that are NOT EVEN USED TO MAKE THE ACTUAL GAME. Nah, that is too much for me, fuck this place.

That's actually the very answer I wanted to hear from him because...

Nothing on that list has anything even remotely to do with a shady company overpromising and flat out lying to earn more money.

About CoE, they announced the Singleplayer Demo before their crowdfunding.

I cant understand why people like you, who dont back CoE, cant chill and wait how the game turns out. Nobody knows if the game will be successful. Saying "this will never work" is the most stupid quote humans keep repeating.

Elon Musk is filthy rich. He can do all this fancy stuff cause he will never run out of money.

Jeromy Walsh is just some poor sucker who lied to get Kickstarter money.
    So the real question is:
Why do people like you believe wannabe leaders who were caught openly lying to the public?

These guys have been full of ka ka from day one. Jeremy is an arrogant SOB. The good news is he'll only get one opportunity to screw all of us. The bad news is he has likely poisoned the crowdfunding well for many. Fanbois can say what they want, this team DID deliberately mislead backers. Look at the Kickstarter. Those of you that ridicule people for backing a "MMO that could be made for $1 MM" - Look at the Kickstarter. The claim was that the game was well underway and much of the work was done and the team had already invested heavily in he production. Yes, it is BS and KickStarter should have called them on it and didn't, as they didn't list what was required to bring the project to market i.e. the whole "seed money" fiasco. Pile of dung - This game will never see the light of day - My prediction; some single-player half baked abortion of a game that maybe even gets mutiplayer elements before they implode following the backlash of how poorly it functions.
