Vikings: Wolves of Midgard is an upcoming action RPG for Windows PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One and PS4. It will set players on adventure through the world built around Scandinavian mythology sprinkled with fantasy and filled with many familiar characters and memorable places from it. As far as I am concerned, there are not enough Viking games out there. Ever wanted to visit Niflheim or take battle to the Jotans? Then this might be just the game for you.

Is the co-op online or couch or both? If it's couch co-op, I'm in.

It appears that it's online only though whether that will change in the future remains to be seen.

This is the PC version, anyway. Which is what we had access to. Looking around the web, it seems the console version's DO NOT have local co-op either. :(

That's what I meant and should have clarified my statement. In everything I've seen, it's online irrespective of platform.

Is this an actual RPG or closer to a hack and slash ala Diablo/Titan Quest?

ARPG doesn't really say much as the term is all encompassing today (anything from Diablo to Mass effect can fall under that heading) . Hence the specifics I was looking for with my question. RPG = an adventure that has different approaches of play, Diablo = All about mowing down hordes for loot..

It's Diablo-style hack and slash with a top down view.

Gotcha, a no go for me then, was hoping it would be something more than that.

I'd argue that ARPG means like Diablo, Grim Dawn or Path of Exile -- isometric view. Mass Effect isn't really an ARPG -- it's RPG with action battles. Semantics, but still. :)

ARPG usually means an RPG with the focus on its action combat. As in the primary if not only activity is combat.
YOU FORGOT LOOOOOOOOOOOT! That's the primary activity in an ARPG -- combat is just a means to an end. :dizzy:

I play for the loot. Which means I don't want to be managing weather effects and other things with limited healing. Thanks for the review as I know to stay away from this game. I play games for fun and not for being efficient. Blundering through or going really slow is my preferred way as combat is just where I get the most loot.

you could also say loot is just a means to an end. whatever you prefer!

its true that genres keep changing and games often try to advertise their game as whichever genre will generate the most profits. this game looks like the classic arpg tho.

Hence why i don't like ARPG's one bit.

I played many years my fave mmorpg because of story, character building through classes and skills, cool varied combat NOT spam combat and i enjoy discovery/exploration along with varied content ideas and playing alongside other players.
Crafting would be limited ,actually everything in a arpg is limited to one reason only, faster killing. You see crafting could be about growing, furniture for housing, food, geesh how many arpg's have any realistic qualities like food and drink?
So yeah arpg's to me have only one definition SPAM killing and very shallow designs.I would not lump any other game in with these and call it a arpg as i have this very distinct definition when i see this title used.

I also wonder, does this game really have a Norse feel or just snow on the ground and a Viking character? Are there Norse Gods,do you ride ships through dangerous waters and have trade routes? Are there ship battles ?Does the game reinforce VALHALLA or Valkyries?
Does crafting actually have any meaning because Diablo 3 has crafting and imo has no meaning, all the desirable loot is in form of drops.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Good arpgs are anything but shallow. If you think you can just pick a character and just spam to win, then I question if you played any.

You could argue that but even EA lists games like ME as Action Roleplaying on it's origin page. :P That was essentially my point. Everything gets slapped under that label in this day and age. So much so it's hard to know what context it's being used .

That's interesting. On my Mass Effect Origin page it is called Action, Roleplaying, Shooter; which is not the same as what is written on your page.
That is an interesting detail for sure (not being sarcastic).

Looking at that page? No "shooter" there, might be different on the actual origin app's page.
