So.. imagine this "no char transfer" rule is permanent.
Old TSW players have:
-maxed out all skills and auxiliary weapons -augments -museum unlocks Not even to mention the gear.
If they stick with this it's fucking the loyal player base so badly it's not even funny.
I don't see this as much different than when AA recently launched fresh start servers.
Existing player base had a choice, stay where they were, or reroll on the new servers and have a chance to grab new land and reset the balance of power
Big difference is new content was implemented on both old and new servers whereas here you have reroll to try new content.
If they aren't lying its going to have significant differences including combat and progression mechanics which may not mesh well with existing skills and what not.
A better example would be when Aventurine rebooted Darkfall into DFU, and they didn't keep the original version running, everyone had to start over.
They are transferring over lifetime subs to patron status, trying to bring over some cash shop purchases and reserve character names to honor past customers, best they can do I guess.
Before you go down the road of "they are just trying to make more money, even from former customers and lifetime subs" all I can say is..No duh!
I should think most would be happy to have a chance revisit an old favorite that has seen new life possibly breathed into it.
Hell, most of the biggest complaints will come from those not actively playing I'm guessing.

Seems like 2 separate systems as existing characters can't be played in "Legends"??? That's bizarre.
Looks like they know they can get more people for a new game then the old one. They tried reworks that didn't bring in a lot of people or cause players that had left to come back and stay. Hopefully they just didn't decide to take and expansion and turn it into an entire game using most of the assets from the first game. It's a smart move on their part. I'm also cautious they can deliver but will have to check it out. I really liked the story lines from TSW.

If it turns into basically a single player action RPG, then I might actually play it. I've bought The Secret World years ago and still have yet to open it.
Let me understand, you bought a game and did not even open it?
C'mon, how many people have you seen freely admit to buying dozens, even hundreds of games on Steam and never even trying them?
"Hey, it was a great deal!"
While not a Steam fan I think I have a few games from the 90s such as FFVII that I plan to play "one day"
Probably time to clean out that closet.
I have 200 hundred games on Steam I bought Ion sale and havent touched yet.
I've got over 300 games on Steam and have never touched a lot of them which I thought was bad until I ran into players who had over a thousand and barely touched any. If they have an open profile you can see their games and the number of hours played. You buy a heavily discounted package of games and think, why not there are a few I like and I can try out the others one day.

Another Star Wars Galaxies NGE. I should have listened to friends that told me not to purchase a Lifetime account from Funcom. Luckily I listened with Age of Conan.

I have quite a few as well as a result of buying cheap humble bundles to get the one game I wanted and 10 I didn't. And TSW has been in multiple Humble Bundles people have bought, so there's probably a whole lot of people with TSW gathering dust in their library.
i usually give the codes I don't want away here. Others sell them on G2a and places like that.

Life time subs have proven to be bad calls in most MMos that offered them, as they usually went f2p within a year or two anyway.

maybe... I was very disappointed with AOC beta and the void of content after a certain level. Gave Funcom a second chance with TSW. It was at that moment not my cup of tea. Felt more like a lobby game and the combat didn't work for me.
I understand the loyal players of this game. However a potential influx of huge number of players. Then again the only games which revamped or went to f2p and were "successful" are LOTRO, SWTOR and STO. All three games have a steady influx based on recent movie hits in the cinemas.
Combat of TERA + FFXIV's crafting + TSW's atmosphere, quests, and setting = Best MMO of all time. I really hope they put some thought into the combat and crafting this time around. TSW always felt like a point and click adventure with a combat system shoehorned in and held together with duck tape. Pretty much anything they do to it at this point would be an improvement over the clunky, un-intuitive, poorly animated disaster that passes for a combat system currently in TSW.

There are only 2 I can think of, LotRO and STO, where it's panned out better for the long term fans.
People that played TSW and have a lifetime have made out REALLY well. So many free cosmetics and you get all DLC issues...for almost 5 years. You also get permanent VIP/Paragon status for Secret World Legends when it launches and of course most of the vanity, mounts and pets you got in TSW.

Well sure, assuming they could actually stand playing the game for 5 years.

Except I'm willing to bet it would actually be welcomed with open arms by more than those who oppose the idea. I really like the setting for the game, but the combat just feels clunky and off to me. I tried at least 3-4 times to get into it, but meh. With this re-launch I will be willing to give it yet another shot. I'm mostly done/over with questing treadmill PVE MMOs so if they balk on this then no harm, no foul.
On Steam there's no information on dates and it's filled with reviews already. The reviews are for TSW. So it's not a very good start. Plus some confusion about when closed beta actually started.

Well closed beta started a couple days ago I think but it's also under NDA right now from what Romain said in a Twitch livestream today. So I don't expect to hear anything from players anytime soon.

If by couple you mean one... (started yesterday). I guess what Octagon tried to say is the misleading (a.k.a. false) advert of the page, since those reviews and rankings are for TSW none of their content fits to Legends since that's a different game.
Maybe, with some stretch the story and writing parts of the reviews might apply, but since apparently you listened Tilty as well last night you should know that even that will be different, streamlined, shortened, in cases even rewrited.
On a sidenote it was sad to listen him quoting almost by the word the ranting of that dumb... no wait, lazy, that's it peon's rage about Dust to dust and why they shortened it significantly - - and with it spitting in the face their own mission design goals they were (rightfully so) proud of for years, storytelling through the world.
And he didn't even get "tougher" questions, so the generic Legends PR from the faq and the press released stuff was mostly enough, still occasionally you could hear him being uncomfortable, which is good, he should be It was audio-only, can't wait the dev stream where we'll see them as well during the answers.
Probably the best writing in a modern MMO at launch. I thought the questing was just amazing.
I also really liked the inital skills/sheel system up until the addition of the special weapons.
Clunky combat, poor marketing support, and bugs were the kiss of death that ultimately led to the near death of Funcom and end to their dream of monetizing the engine they built for the game. I actually remember having chat issues when we were trying to get invites out to people as we were trying to invite to our guild- just incredible. While you have to give Funcom some credit fore trying to innovate (Using Flash for mods for example) the end result didn't work
I have a lifetime sub aka Patron and look forward to returning.
Taking another pass at the engine would be welcome. I also thought they never got PvP right. Guild tools were terrible too. Trying to manage a guild in-game was terrible.
But the story, the voiceovers, the whole ARC; amazing- really drew me in...
I don't like that they've given so few details, when the launch of this game is less than 3 months away.
What's even worse is that those people that have gotten into the Current Beta test, have had to sign a NDA. So they can't even share or stream the game to show us the changes and get us hyped up. And this is a game that is supposed to launch before then end of THIS spring.
The fact that they have so little info to share with us, when the launch date is so close, leaves me feeling a bit apprehensive.
They had such a good game but for the combat. I mean these are the people who gave us Age of Conan and I enjoyed the visceral combat in that ,why could they not have designed something better for the combat, puzzling .
So our characters will be stuck in TSW which won't presumably receive any new updates. Everything except vanity items bought in the shop is also nailed.
Very poor show funcom as a long term player of several of your games.
I Believe you can carry ur char's special Items over - although not ur Actual char from what I remember reading about it a couple of weeks ago
Copied & Pasted from what they said about the New SWL:- Folks who are current players of The Secret World will be able to link their MMO account to Legends. By so doing, Funcom Points can be used to purchase Aurum and any remaining membership can be used in Legends. Vanity items can also be moved from TSW to Legends. Current TSW subscriptions will roll over to the Legends Patron Rewards system. Characters will remain on The Secret World and can be played there, though not in Legends. The team is working on a way to transfer vanity and store items to Legends.
