(but on a sidenote, for great lore, well-written overarching storyline, and with players are definitely not chosen ones, you should check LotRO. I know, you've only tried it for short, at the beorning beorning, and it ended up in a quite messy news page Just sayin', it's possible.)
Give me a world where I can be as big or small as my ambitions and social skills allow (after all no one becomes big alone).
Humans fight it and brings light and order, Werewolfs should be barbaric tribes close to nature mixing all...
That the horror mmo I would play

Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.

or UO ...... Dont know why i even watched that , usually avoid his vids...
Or maybe I've played both of these games (which I have and have referenced several times in several videos) and like the way they handled their story and lore. Hence I would do something similar My Dream MMO.

OH yes, and one or two other things coming along in the new games -- huge worlds with procedural generation to create as much space as needed. If you're going to have persistent worlds, they've got to be BIG, too. Procedurals might not be required -- if you could take something like Google Earth and its 3D projection and substitute alternative CG, you could have a playable animation version of the real world, or maybe better a highly-altered alternative equivalent. Players could go to big cities if they like crowds or out in wildernesses vast enough they'd be all alone, or perhaps go out with a group of friends to where the giant monsters dwell...
I'm hoping we'll see great strides in what game developers can do with programming techniques to "do more with less." Even with regular games, would it be too much to have a little basic AI and such, so the NPCs handing out quests don't stand in the same place all the time, saying the exact same thing to everyone -- and the world and quests do change somewhat over time?
I think the dream MMO we(?) are thinking of would also do away with "balancing" classes, or even having separate classes. You become what you are by what you've done, who you've talked to, your experiences and the things you've learned. Maybe you just want to be the sheriff of a village and keep everything peaceful and quiet like (again, a little AI with some NPCs might go a long way), or maybe you could be a farmer in the little village, where real knowledge of crops and semi-realistic germination and growing times and the need of other players for food would make farming something to enjoy and be proud of. Likewise fishing -- OH, I've yet to find a single-player game, even that does justice to the joys of fishing -- they all seem to be geared to twitchy, competitive videogame-playing kids.
I'd like to see crafting be totally free of recipes and schematics and all of that -- stuff in the world would just have certain properties (assigned by a simple code string, perhaps) and what you can do with it and by combining it with other things, and how you can combine them and how you do combine them all naturally determine what you come up with. If you want to make a stew, you don't need to acquire X amount of this and add Y amount of that, you can put more or less in and throw in some other stuff -- and maybe get watery soup or a burnt mess or poison. Or you could eat it raw - ripe berries would be great, old meat not so good. Doesn't Minecraft have something of this approach?
Okay, sorry, got carried away again...

Should have mentioned you played them before as reference points in this video.
Never assume your audience has seen your past work. Appears neither @Scorchien or me have seen much if it. (I generally don't watch video content, prefer to read about games.)

But if I use those as reference points, I'm then assuming people have played those games. To me it just makes more sense to use NO reference points and just explain what I'm looking for. That way I don't have to assume people have played anything.

Could you name a few please? Id realy like to play some and have no luck finding some.
Exactly!
And from what I gather, this is only in regard to Story vs Your Dream MMO. I guess there could (and will) be other vids about different aspects of what makes an MMO, that will most probably invalidate Eve from being brought up as "It already exists!", so let the guy dream damnit!
On topic though, while I don't like the main story arch and the Hero story, I kind of like having Epic Quests related to your class or your role, etc. That, while not making you the hero will bring you into the story and the essence of your class, faction, role, whatever. But I guess this could also be considered as "Lore" more than actual story.
Fun vid Hive, thanks for that (again) !
Of course it's silly for everyone to be running a single player story with you as the hero in a multiplayer environment.
But the answer isn't to get rid of stories and lore altogether. Those games you seem to like so much with no story and no lore I find extremely boring grind fests. A better solution is to generate more credible group events using lore and stories.
No one has done this perfectly but the rifts in Rift and dynamic quest events in GW2 are good steps in that direction.

Was thinking the same thing. Anarchy Online was so like this back in the day. You just had to chose a faction and the lore of the faction was the story. Man i might just have to suck it up and play it again for free on steam.
