I thought the nodes would change via how many people visit use that area and not some miniature village node.

WHY would i need to CHOOSE ,why wouldn't players be allowed to support ALL aspects of a node as would be realistic and expected?

It started out nice but now looks like all KS's,just a money grab.

Just wait until you see the cash shop, something all of these games try to avoid like the plague because it would turn everyone away.

Legit question. I never see you post anything positive about ANY game, so I'm curious are there any you actually like?

Why do ppl back these games? What solid MMO has ever come out of kickstarter?

I'd rather throw money away at the hope of something different than pay for another generic AAA MMO.

I just feel bad, I know so many people throwing all this money at these mmo kickstarters that just end up being vaporware. At least the generic AAA mmos actually release a finished mmo.

As a gamer, who has backed projects in the past, I can 100% understand the skepticism.

    But we aren't those people.

We are going to deliver and deliver hard. :D

This does truly look interesting but doubtful that I'll back. Have backed quite a few projects and none have been completed. Some have died, some are still in development which is fine. Wish Ashes all the best with the funding coming up.

Before I back this I need more details on the combat style. Action, Tab Target, mix of the two. Trinity, all classes are generic DPS, (EQ1 Style) DPS, CC, Heals, Tank? No deep answers no money.

Tank, Fighter, Summoner, Rogue, Ranger, Mage, Cleric, and Bard, but you choose both a primary and secondary class combination from that list of 8 so there's 64 possible combinations (I think you can choose the same class twice). Could be pretty cool!

As for combat supposedly it's a hybrid so I'm waiting to see how it turns out. I prefer non targeting action myself so I'm hoping this hybrid turns out well. I like that it's trinity based roles, but I've seen other games try to do the hybrid thing and the "targeting" part of that tends to be really terrible when games use tab targeting systems and mask it as action hybrid.

Thats the most info I have seen on combat for this game. Its a start thanks. I do want more info and hope they have a video about combat and classes. I know its hard to say details at this point but I would like to see what they are shooting for. I have to say the word Bard got me excited as thats been my fav ideal class I have played. If an MMO has a Bard I normally give it a go just because taking on something that complex says something about the depth they are shooting for. Still fav Bards I have played were EQ1 and DAoC Minstrel. Hope the devs are listening, you could have a pledge for my wife and I if I get to see your vision of combat and classes. Sell me pls!!!!

    @Nanfoodle

One of our designers is "Jeffrey Bard" and he went to "Bard" college, and plays a bard class.

That should tell you all you need to know my friend. :D

Will wait to see what they are selling in the pledge packages before deciding to back or not. If it's remotely P2W, then no deal!

    Pretty interesting stuff!

I am wondering, will there be some "leader" positions for lower level nodes too?

Ex.: Mayor for a town, or chief for a village, etc.? Would they have similar decisions/powers?

Also, would it be possible for one such leader/community to "block" their node at a specific level to prevent it from reaching the next one regardless of what they do in its area of effect?

If for instance, a few people wanted to have a close knitt community and are be happy running a simple village. Now I know that the benefits won't be the same and all, but I could see some people being proud of providing the best/most of a specific resource, and have some reknown throughout the world.

When you add the skills of each member of your community, who, I assume, would also improve with time and experience, it means that, you could end up having a very lucrative fishing village, which sounds cool (I know, until Kyleran and his barbarian horde come by.. but that's another story! ;) ).

So there *might* be bards in the game... got it!

Since I'm extremely interested in the game and looking forward to backing, I'm hoping you have the KS scoped out well. The last several that I followed (included one I backed -- Ship of Heroes) were not planned out or laid out very well and ended up canceling just a few days in. I'm hoping Ashes will have a better plan in place. (possibly even one of the dreaded "Marketing" class...)

Very interesting but the downside may become that the servers will be small as there are few roads to advancement for new players, they can not make a difference as all real estate are "capped" after some time. Furthermore for many people it is much more fun to tear down than to build up, the lofty goals might end up in a fancy "Mongol Horde Simulator" But done right this game can be awesome, the task of integrating the PVE and PVP sides of Ashes will be extremely hard.

This would be cool if you had a few close friends to make a private server or a group of civilized people with morals to play with; as an MMO with guilds full of assclowns, cheaters, griefers and exploiters...nope not so much.

I can handle varying levels of asshatery for the most part, been playing MMOs for years, especially if it's all in good fun, but these days people take it to a wholenotha level and in bigger numbers. You know the ones who will come at you with some bullshit at the worst possible moment, typing in all caps and broken English trying to grief then get mad at you because they weren't ass successful as they hoped. I miss the days when MMOs weren't as mainstream and all the rabid millennials were too young to play them.

Same for me, I hate land rush games hence my preference to side with those who would rather see the world burn.

I might be retired by time this launches which would provide plenty of opportunity to be a scourge to others. ;)

That is what worries me too, the opportunities to really destroy things for other players in this game may attract a lot of the worst kinds of players.

Great concepts and visuals for sure. It reminds me of what EQN was proposed to be before SoE crashed and burned. I like that they have actually done some work before going to kickstarter and not just throw up some concept art. I'm guessing this will be something like Crowfall where they have a mix of crowdfunding and private investment.

It certainly has promise, but I've seen so many of these player driven sandbox sort of games just fall apart because the designers didn't understand the mentality of the typical MMORPG player. It is a real challenge to allow people as much freedom as possible yet at the same time making sure that the trolls and window lickers don't ruin the game for everyone else.

I like that they understand how much we hate the pay to win situation as well, so I'll be interested to see what kind of business model they have. Having a refund policy in place will be an important factor as well since most of us are very cautious with crowdfunding right now in this genre. Let's hope they don't just eliminate the refund policy if things don't work out like some other projects have done. Yeah, I'm talking about you there scam citizen.

Wonder if old gamers would get the equivalent of viagra for gaming one day. The blue ones improves your accuracy and the red ones are for excessive farming.

Can definitely see the influence of the ex-Firaxis devs watching all these node videos. There is some strong Civ online feel going on here.

    FFXI

I rather support a game with a subscription and I always do even if it is by buying an item in the cash shop akin to a subscription because good games deserve support. Kickstarter however is  not something I would invest in.
