I believe you start with enough shards to unlock one character of your choice.
That means he may get almost a week of playtime!
It's ending that soon?
edit: When is the next beta phase?
I think everything is wiped including eternity shards, but if they are saying different let me know.
There was an eternity shard exploit where people were getting limitless eternity shards and then buying all characters, and as far as I know it still isn't patched out yet, so.. I doubt they'll let people keep the eternity shards.
The game was supposed to go to "open beta" on the 16th it has since been pushed back to the 18th. There will not be another wipe once it hits open beta.
You are right, ES arent being refunded. Its the G's spent that are being refunded. Mixed those 2 up.
Not entirely true. Some characters are built around range or melee. Some are good at both. Some have no ranged attacks. Some are based around movement.
In fact I would say Marvel Heroes has put together a lot of mechanics in games you don't see very often. Ways in which you build and spend energy that is rather uncommon.
It's all just different ways to do DPS these days, though, whether it's "build up more combo points before attacking to do more DPS" or "Use this skill to reload your other skills to do more DPS", etc. They really standardized the heroes over time, all for the sake of making it "easier to balance". Some heroes still manage to play a bit differently than others but as someone who owns every hero in the game, they still all blended into each other to me after a while anyways.
If you want to play any type of hero but DPS, forget about it. Debuffer? All boss mobs quickly gain 100% immunity to debuffs after the first few hit them. Tanker? Taunts count as debuffs so they too stop working shortly after the battle has started. Healer? ...nope. Buffer? Nope.
Even summoners can't really provide back up tanks because most enemies ignore summons for the most part or use such huge AoE skills that summons don't shield you much from anything.
I can't help but wonder if the lack of roles besides DPS is what contributed to the game's long term decay. Well, all MMOs lose population as they grow old anyways so I suppose it's hard to tell if or what the other reasons could be.
I think when you get to the point of playing every hero then you are correct, but I would also say any game can be broken down that way.
You're right about no other classes. At the cosmic level tanking doesn't really work, and controlling doesn't work either. There are no true healing classes though some classes do provide heals. Taunts only provide some help but bosses get immunity to those for a short while too.
I guess if you play PC and you've gotten every character then, yeah, it will all blend together. The problem is, not all characters are created equal, at least on PS4. Some classes are just way too strong while others are great classes if played well. Then you have some characters that are just bad choices from the get go, and even played to the best of their ability won't ever be able to do what others can do.
Sadly, that particular problem isn't exclusive to the console versions. Even on the PC, just because every character is just DPS doesn't mean every character is actually GOOD at it.
One major reason for the big imbalances is because someone(s) at Gaz got the bright idea to "rebalance" all the heroes at once. So instead of just gradually tweaking each hero as needed from observation over time to get them all towards a good average, they threw everything out and started all over from scratch. The thing is, when you start from scratch, you have no baseline and no prior statistics to go by. The BUE was supposed to make heroes easier to balance by simplifying them but the balance is ironically worse than ever now (which is quite a feat since most people didn't think the balancing could get any worse)
I can't even begin to imagine how much of a balancing nightmare things will be if Gaz ever gets around to implementing Omega items (which are supposed to have a whole bunch of affixes that radically alter skills and how heros play. Yea, good luck balancing all that in a game with 30+ heroes, Gaz...).
