This is my favourite MMO ever and while I know it may be childish to feel this way, I still feel like the management at Trion really did a disservice to its fans and siphoned talent and money for their other projects, leaving Rift in the lurch.
I hope to see a resurgence with this patch but I am hesitant to jump back in being that the playerbase is so low. For example, you cannot do dungeons or pvp at low levels, making it extremely frustrating and a revolving failure in that a lack of anything to do at low level leads to no queues for low levels which leads to no players.
Once loved the game also and played it like crazy when it first came out. I still will buy an expansion and play it for a little while from time to time. I'm just really glad they came down on those overly inflated prices they were charging for expansions. I haven't given up on them.

Yeah, I loved this game once too. So much so that I invested 200$ into it and felt it was worth it during the SL days. NMT came out and I kinda stopped even though I bought the souls and stuff. The recent expansion still hasn't made me want to stay. Got to 70 and kinda never logged in again.
Rift is a decent MMO, especially with their diverse class system. They have had some issues with finding a revenue stream their players are happy with. Sometimes, though, I think players have forgotten that for profit games are for profit. They have to make money somehow. Having a hard time finding enough people for low level dungeons in long established games isn't a Rift specific issue. The majority of the population are at the higher end of content and focusing their time there instead of alting with the recent updates.
Hmmm new area/ raid .... again. Trion should rework old systems-animation/character design/soul system design and structure (players cant't create iconic analogues some famouse fantasy classes EVEN with 40+ souls + structure of skill tree not very "comfortable" for hibryd builds esp. with those "ultraskills" on 61 pt..))/old capitals of Mathosia/colour balance in some areas/architecture/even interface and of cource "gearing up" system(TESO/gw2 made this better and much LESS GRINDISH).
RiFT was the first game that managed to pull me away from WoW back at launch, the dynamic events were great while maintaining a nice familiar feel however I've struggled to re-invest my time into it over the last few years because I'm not a fan of the cash shop and its incursion into the actual game.
I keep hoping that Trion will re-launch RiFT with a sub only service with everything earnable in game and no cash shop, if they ever did I'd be the first inline to sign up. Oh and I wouldn't mind if it was just chocolate RiFT with that level of difficulty.
On the flip side it's nice to see Trion are still doing relatively nice updates, keep trucking.
Original release was one of best bug free releases, rich game in any sense, equiped since start with all one play could want (including multiple builds). That was original release. Have played all expansions, but it is more and more become "meh".
I did play this a lot when it came out and even liked it but when I left I never went back even once unlike many other games that I have returned to and I cannot explain the reason for that.
Maybe 4.2 finally got it to where it should have been in November when 4.0 launched. I can't say I'm happy to see Dead Simon get more involved -- he's killer at puzzles but I don't care about that. I would rather they focus on NEW dungeons (rather than re-hashed old ones). That said, I'm glad to see them drop focus from 20 to 10-person raids. (I don't think they ever did anything right/wrong with 20s but it's just a personal thing where I prefer a smaller group of people to get to know)
I'm the same as others. Played it to death at launch. Haven't returned since the expansions, I cant put my finger on it why though
Me too. It's the strangest thing. I can't explain why this game seems odd to me. It hits all the checkboxes... but yet... just can't get into it. Maybe I'll try again after this patch
Vanilla rift, chilling in Meridian and playing Conquest when it first came out, so much fun zerg combat.. awesome game back then. When a team won and we all fought over the lich boss, if your team won you could res and keep killing boss, but if your team lost you coundn't return if you died. GOOD TIMES.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
I have played RIFT in summary 6 years (over 600 days life time).
With 4.0 I break with RIFT ... too many mistakes, issues and so on.
With 4.1 a 10man raid came (5 months after the release). 30 min after release the raid was finished. On the same evening when it goes live the content was settled.
With 4.2 I spend a look again into RIFT.
A new 10 man RAID ? No ... ROTP ... again an old Raid in a new content. The new area looks like the old lvl 50 Ice/Snowland (sorry, but I don't know the name in english. The german name was Eisenkieferngipfel) with NPCs from the old StormLegion area.
So, the most players of my guild, was switched to other games.
I loved RIFT a looooong time. But now it is time to search a new challenge.

Best of luck and I hope it picks up for you guys

If WoW's cash shop was just as intrusive as Rift's is, I would avoid WoW as well.
