The July connection issues have been all about DDOS as suspected

Anyone who plays ESO on the NA server on a regular basis knows that connectivity since ~ July 1st has been extremely iffy with prolonged periods of high latency, rubber banding, frequent disconnects etc.

There have been many dev posts during the month with cryptic "we;re aware and working on it" comments with no details beyond that.

Well they've finally broken their silence and have publicly admitted what many of us already suspected: that they've been under attack repeatedly all this time: (https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/362924/recent-issues-with-na-megaserver/p1)

Hi everyone,

We’d like to briefly explain what’s been going on with the North American server stability lately.

In short, we’ve been getting hit with many repeated DDoS attacks (Distributed Denial of Service). When this happens, it floods our service and prevents you from being able to log in, stay connected, or even group properly. Sometimes they only affect a handful of players, and other times they can cause a much greater and widespread impact. Either way, it’s a frustrating situation.

While we do have protection in place (which we obviously can’t discuss publicly), it hasn’t been enough. We’ve been working hard to implement additional security measures to make sure you’re able to log in – and stay logged in – whenever you want to play, and aren’t interrupted. We hope you understand why we’re being somewhat vague and not discussing specifics here. We take this issue very seriously, though, and are working hard to ensure everyone has the best experience possible.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

So were they in denial over the denial of service attack?

    Obviously they will deny it.

At least tier 1 support had fun teaching people about DNS flushes, traceroute and pathping and the theories were amusing to read. VPN providers had, I'm sure, an uptick of new customers since the "fix" everyone on reddit was talking about was VPN to go around the alleged culprit ATT bad node.

Some companies seem to be quick to tell the users that it's a DDOS attack. ZOS not so much.

Seems to be a lot of attacks in recent couple months. AT&T customers seem to be hating life generally as of late as well. I'm not really surprised with the latter. Horrible service all around with them already.

My local cable company is either throttling or being attacked, 200mb service and speed tests have been pinging out in the single digits. Games hardly playable, netflix taking ages to load the last two days.
