Why the Pub is wortless here at mmorpg.

Have you ever argued with a household cat over spilling the milk bowl.... You know the cat is wrong, it's a fact, but trying to get your point across is impossible no matter how you phrase it.

In the topic here "why mmos are dying" and out of 186 replies, and 4.6K viewers, MANY are saying the same thing using different words to express the EXACT SAME THING.

Infact I would say the right answer is the POPULAR answer.  But its spread among at least 25 other wrong answers.

If someone were to use percentages like "I feel 33% here agree with me", the population would focus on where you got 33% from ?....... Knowing full well no one can figure the percentage, but to undermine you.

Even in this reply where I stated "25 wrong answers"...... This in itself gives the argument power to undermine.  We basically have a back door to twist anything around:

- using percentages would get you killed.
- stating it's a fact would get you killed.
- using I believe would get you killed.
- bad spelling will get you killed (me).
- the way you phrase your topic will get you killed (me).
- the most popular....people here will kill you just to have fun.
- the other most popular.  Around ten hardcore posters control ALL TOPICS.
- another more popular.  People often argue just because they like to win. They my not even care !

This topic was inspired by seeing the RIGHT answer many times in the topic "why mmos are dying".  I'm actually afraid to say what that right answer is because it would open up the back door for argument !!!

The Pub is truly worthless..... I stick to sub topics, but even still the same ten follow.

The cat believes you are wrong,  and spilling the milk is the appropriate course of action.

Rare is the day when there is only a single correct answer or even cause for a complex question.

Rather there are multiple variables, some known and well understood and others not so much.

Its been my observation you often are on the ill informed side and therefore are frequently drawing wrong conclusions more often than not. Therefore from my view, you are the cat.

But hey, I could be wrong, I am a cat after all.

I think you're describing what is "wrong" or "useless" about basically any MMO forum, whether it's on-topic or not.  Idk, I like the general discussion and Pub-type areas, there are some good ideas and comments hiding amidst the chaff.

I can understand your frustrations, you just have to try to rise above it and stay civil. There are many posters on this site who's opinions and ideas I value, even if I don't necessarily agree with them, and posting on these forums over the last few years has really helped me to understand my own opinions and design goals.

I actually think these forums are pretty good in terms of trolling / civility. There are only one or two active trolls and then a few ignorant, stubborn and vocal posters that we have to worry about, granted they do manage to derail most threads but if we learn to ignore them (I don't always manage that myself....) then we'll be fine.

The bigger issue is just a lack of things to discuss. Whenever there is a dearth of things to discuss from the industry, it is only natural that these boards would begin to decline and turn into petty arguments. If there is no content to consume externally, we begin to consume ourselves.

The OP claim's the right answer is hidden away by wrong answer's in a thread titled "why mmos are dying".

Since the thread itself is full of post's from people expressing personal opinion's, there can be no right or wrong answer, only different view point's.

I can't think of anything that 100% can agree on.  Religion, politics, ethics, world history, what happens after you die, everyone pretty much has their own believe system based on their past experiences.  Your focus determines your reality some say.

If there were a panel of successful leading MMO industry experts, I don't think they would all agree on one answer.

First I'll say this will be one of my last post.

That was one and half month ago... what's up with that promise?
Seems like you are indeed the cat.
Yeah, I remember that too. And MOST people on that thread agreed that leaving would be the right thing to do for you. So, that being the RIGHT ANSWER, why are you ignoring it? Why are you doing that which you say you despise? The right answer was you leaving, yet you are still here.

Grow a backbone and stick to your promises, stop whining about that which you contribute to and realise that you are part of the problem and I've posted the solution above.

Your entire premise is flawed, OP.

There is no "right" and "wrong" answer to the question.

There is only a wide variety of opinions, many of which will vary considerably.

So because an "internet forum" doesn't follow Robert's Rules of Order it is "wortless" (sic)

Clearly you have unbalanced expectations. Of course, if you want to bring that type of scrutiny to bear you might want to turn that microscope on your own posts. I mean, hold yourself to the same level of quality that you want others to aspire to.

Your assertion that there is a "right" answer assumes that you weren't looking for a discussion but a soap box where you could get a pat on the back.

All data is qualifiable. When you throw around random statistics with no basis in fact, you make yourself wrong therefore no further need to discuss anything.

Speak (or write) clearly and concisely, use fact to back up your statements, or if it is simply your opinion, state such. I strongly recommend taking a college level writing class or business class, where you are required write a lot and cite all your work. I did this ( actually I am doing it right now and have been for the last 4 semesters) and what I have discovered is; it's very easy to become irrelevant if you can't make a valid point backed up by facts. It is also very easy to do some research and qualify your assertions.

Instead of being thin skinned and taking everything as a personal attack, do your homework, know what you are talking about and present a valid argument.

As @Kyleran said, you are usually on the less informed side of the discussion at hand. You approach these discussions with passion, I give you that, but seldom any type of relevant or quantifiable fact.

I actually never get involved in threads like "Why MMO's are dying?" One thing I have realized is that the more posts on any given topic means it is basically a few people arguing back and forth. One trying to 1-up the other person. After a few legitimate arguments, it then becomes an insult-fest. Usually, if I get involved, I give my opinion, I refuse to argue with someone over my reasons and I will never tell anyone their reasons are incorrect.

What I find is that when people disagree about the same thing, it usually comes down to what parameters a person values more. Person A values a different set of parameters more than another.

For example, in the American debate over abortion, it is how a person values the parameters that decides the position. Is it freedom of choice or the value of a fetus that is more important? etc, etc.
