The giveaway is nice, but ya there is no way that build is worth 3600.

Two SSDs and two hard drives? Why? I can understand eventually assembling something like that due to upgrades down the road, such as if you bought a 256 GB SSD, later decide you want more SSD space, and add a 512 GB SSD later. Or something similar for hard drives. But why up front?

The monitors situation is also strange. You're presumably not spreading a game across the two monitors. Rather, you're going to have one as your primary monitor and the other as your secondary. So why shell out for extra high refresh rates on the secondary monitor rather than getting something cheaper?

Another issue is, why make 2133 MHz memory the budget alternative when it's the same price as 2666 MHz memory? Ryzen especially likes high memory clock speeds, not so much because it needs the bandwidth, but because the infinity fabric that connects the two core complexes runs at the same clock speed as the memory.

Ok, I think everyone gets it. This is not the "optimal" $3600 gaming rig. It does have a bunch of really nice parts in it though. And I would also guess that if any of us were given the same pile of parts and told, "You can have all of these, but you have to use them all on just one computer," would do the exact same thing and cram them all into the case and go, "Oooohhhhh, SHINY!"

I swear, this site .... even when they're giving away something for free people talk shit about it, lol.

I guess any criticism is now "shit talk"?

And any shit talk is now "criticism".

I sincerely don't mean you, but this is how it is these days. :)

I am still a believer that people can tell the difference between

    "lulz this thing sucks bawls"

    and

"This is not good for reasons (x, y, z) and can be improved by doing (x,y,z)"

A lot do. But when you check out the new wave of reviewers on YouTube for example, you'd realize the ones go "sucks bawls" every 5 minutes got way more subscribers, sadly.

DDR4-3200? Couldn't at least do an Asus and 3600 or higher those 300 MHZ clock speeds really make a difference in some games. Like sure if it were free ID take it and give it to a family member or a friend online who could actually use it...

Something to note about MSI motherboads, the power saving options are really bad and have been known to be default settings for them.

Good info. I just replaced my motherboard with an ASRock Fatality Z97 and I noticed the default power options, amongst others, to have odd default settings or the auto detect didn't work optimally.

I got that same mobo within a month or two of it's release. Very good, but definitely needed sys spec adjusts manually before using it full time. Also, depending on the heat sync the position of the RAM slots kinda sucks. Maybe it's the RAM I use, which has their own individual syncs that clash with the sync of the CPU. To that negative, I can use the 1-3 slots, but the 4 slot is blocked off and I'm unable to fully utilize all 4 RAM slots.

I have built multiple Ryzen PC's that are as just as good for half the cost.  Did you just go out and pick the most expensive parts you could find?  I could walk into a retail computer store and get better prices than that!  I rarely use Amazon, their prices are just too high.

If you are a gamer today, running at 1440p is really questionable.  1200p is just light years better in performance and the visual difference is very minor.  If you want a nice inexpensive dual monitor setup, get a 2k monitor for gaming and a 32" 1080 tv for internet browsing and what else.  With a gtx 1080 you can run almost everything on high settings.

I could pick apart the build, but I will just say, it was worth a good laugh.

Must be within the continental United States to be eligible.

    Bleh

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

How dare PC Gamers look at a rig build and try to make it better for the money. What kind of savagery is this?

If only someone had put the context you're looking for somewhere.....

Also, I don't doubt 1200p runs better. It's a less common resolution by a long shot, however.

I don't usually rise to the bait, but you're better than this, Oz. A little courtesy goes a long way.

I built the thing and considered the exact same. If I were to build my own machine again, I would definitely use some of these parts but there are changes I would make. Namely, cut down on the massive hard drive and reinvest that in a GTX 1080Ti.

While I won't knock a free PC. I dislike these kinds of things because it gives the impression, to the uninitiated, that building a "Gaming PC" will cost you a down-payment on a new car. :\
