you guys should check out TurfBattles ( http://www.TurfBattles.com ) its on his early stages right now version 1.0.3. but the game has great potential. pvp pve pet raising comunity is nice. there is lots of things to do. a little bit like Knights Online but much much better its realy worth a try. till now it got no ratings here on mmorpg but im sure when you guys check it out and play it a bit give it a chance you will see how much fun it is for a FREE MMORPG yes its free. i know it can never stand up to all the mmorpgs you pay for. but for a free mmorpgs dis is defentliy the new big free mmorpg.
ps. right now you can only raise pets but there planning on where pets can also attack and where you can ride/fly them right now pets just give you exta bonus stats
Vanguard will not be a huge hit, it is catering to a specific market not to the mass market. It will be too time intensive and too difficult to solo for your average player.
WoW wasn't huge it just had better worldwide marketing that Everquest did (you could buy it in high street stores in Europe).
Imho, I do not think there will be a next huge hit until 'the next generation' starts playing MMORPG's in five to ten years time.
RO2 will be MMO's NEW GOD... and have everyone bowing down. I dont care or mind if you say otherwise, cuz once its out youll be like "man, that damng was right...... PRAISE RO2" and "whats WoW? oh is it that game that had runescape for competition?!?!"
*thinks to self* damn, i better save up for a new computer to handle RO2
ok for my first post, i didnt wanna sound like i wanna start flame wars , and i dont...i just find my humour kind of..errm...messed up, but its true.
thanks for reading my post, please dont flame me, or ill have to flame you back
Blizzard is a really hard company to beat. What will the next big game be. Well it will be World of warcrafts expansion. There are no tittles coming out that will be able to pull enough from World of warcraft to take the next big. The only way it can be done at this momment is if a ton of new well thought out games arrive at the same time and chip away wow's base. personally Phantasy star universe will be the next game I play.
In my opinion, Vanguard will NOT be a big thing. It is catering to EQ-nostalgists, not to any other player sector. Corpse runs (again?), along with difficult gameplay and steep grinding... plus very limited soloing capability... will turn away most WoW players. Everquest fans will have a hay-day, though. Let me point out that soloing is a viable game style and to ignore it is a mistake; I sometimes group up with others, but usually with guildmates or when I happen to want to go into an instance. I predict that Vanguard beta will be extremely populated, and that about 200k players will buy the game, but it will not dethrone World of Warcraft, not even close, nor will it be the big next MMO.
Darkfall Online caters to a lot of different people. Im not a PKer or a griefer, but Darkfall is my greatest hope. I am also not a player of pre-Tramell Ultima Online. I was playing Asherons Call (the first one) at the time. In fact, I stumbled upon the old Darkfall website about 4-5 years ago and become a diehard fan instantly (after reading everything). So... I didnt even play UO, and I have the brains to believe in Darkfall...
The best things about Darkfall are that 1) there are no predefined classes so you have complete freedom to be what you want and do what the frick you want without being confined (freedom is sweet), 2) there is player-owned territory, 3) racial wars, 4) guild wars over resources and territories, 5) wide-open PvP but with accountability, 6) the largest gameworld ever made (maybe), and 7) a lot of other things concerning its game design. All in all, Darkfall Online is superior to everything else, in my opinion. The fanbase has waited around for it for a LONG TIME, and is growing by leaps and bounds, although it might not seem apparent. Believe me, when Darkfall hits open beta, their website is going to explode in populations.
Star Trek Online is gonna be massive, especially since there are a LOT of Trekkies out there that would try it.
There is a new Super Hero game in the works, which will probably become the hottest game. Especially for comic book fanatics. The game is due to be released in late 2007. 3 companies are teaming up to produce this game.
Oh and the next major game? well WH might give WoW a run for its money-- but I am thinking if pulled off right Star Trek could be major mmorpg mover -- but again well have to see its too early in dev to know yet, just tank gawd SoE or EA is not making it lol
To be honest I highly believe vangaurd will be the next big mmorpg, so far it seems that game will have the most depth. And its the same guys who made eq and they truly know depth and lore that is for sure, as far as age of conan i have yet to hear anything about variety of classes except fighting types, if this is true then that will be a major downfall.

If the same company makes VG as Everquest doesnt really mean all that much.. now if the exact same team is working on it then its quite possible -- everyone loved AC1 and all were sooo excited for AC2 - started out really big - but it was a different game then AC1 so most went back to AC1 -- but i liked the change..so stuck with AC2 as long as i could till the pop was just not enough to even find anyone to PK

sorry, i just had to quote this
More seriously, i doubt there will be another WoW. Theres just too many options in a year or two. When WoW came there was much less competiton. But i do think that WAR will attract a large number from WoW, there is so much similarity between those two games.
Ok well I never said company I should of said devs my fault and it is the same devs with microsoft. Also WOW is not the best mmorpg, it is a good game but every mmorpg has its flaws there is no such thing as a perfect godly mmorpg like many claim wow is. There are alot I mean alot of mmorpgs coming out to the market and im sorry to say this but wow will not be the most populated any longer wait and you will see.

well WoW definatly made its mark.. but its on the slow down cline as they all do... they will make a big jump after they release the expansion -- then start to decline again -- WoW was fun.. and a decent game but like you said nowhere near perfect -- I hated hitting end game and then nothing to do besides crappy BG or instances -- uck... make a full open pvp server on WoW then we can have some real end game fun ~_^
Mythic did a kick arse job on DAoC especially for its time -- but I think WC will definatly give WoW a run for its money -- maybe bliz will make WoSC (world of starcraft) hehe that would be kinda cool....
but theres a couple of titles im interested in but nothing thats like wow i really wanna play that but conflict omega.. but thats a while ways out, its still early development but im in love with the concepts of it... there website is www.conflictomega.com
Darkfall also look great too so well have to see how it all goes but im tired of sissy mmo's were devs trying to make things too easy, and limit your freedom -- i want freedom of character development, I want game choice freemdom to do whatever I want.. and I should be able to kill my guildie for being stupid
Perhaps but remember one thing eq tried to do the same thing even upgraded its graphics alot and it still fell so soe made eq2 instead, that will be great of blizzard has the rescources to do it. @ major thing that drives me away from wow and eve. Eve for I never tried eve im into fantasy mmorpgs unless it is star wars but I hear its pvp based and its a grind if I quit rf online then I would more then likely not like it, in that the lack of pve will be a downfall expansions or not. Now WOW the only reason why it has such a high rating its because it is popular this I learned from playing it, yes wow is a decent game but its based more on gear not skill and in my opinion that just isnt right for any kind of rpg. Now I do think gear should matter some but my god what a waste of life oh wow shiny item im going to waste hours and hours raiding the same areas over and over for an item im not going to get for months. Now I do believe gear should matter but not more then the skill of the player, when I played eq there were beyond numbers of places to raid and gear is not as hard to drop as it is in wow, you could raid a few months get a bunch of nice stuff roll another character. Personally I do not want to spend all my time getting some gear that doesnt even have cool spell effects like in most mmorpgs I rather level end game abilitys or roll another toon.
One last thing I forgot the mention what drove me away wow the most is the lack of community, WOW has the most immature and rude community I have ever seen in an mmorpg, this is why something like vangaurd will attract more of the mature audience, because they probably dont like the community in wow either. I will admit kids play wow but not all of them I have seen 30 year olds to tell a noobie asking a question stfu and go away for no stupid reason. Last time I checked wow economy isnt all that either.
I don't know if this has been posted (too lazy to read all 15 pages) ,but here. Its called Spore, and don't let the name fool you. The video is long.... like an hour or so, but if you actually watch all of it then you rather a) really liked it and wanted to know more or b)wasted an hour of you life that you will never get back.
I think Sigonyth and Fallen earth are worth watching for. there are not in Beta yet but hofelly will be within 1 year or so. I think they are not next generation in RPG.
I didn't really read through all the answers, but theres no doubt that the next big thing is Warhammer Online, this game will be everything World of Warcraft weren't. WoW will be a mere bad memory when this game hits retail.
Mythic gave us DAoC, now with WHO they'd hopefully learned their lesson and can provide us a 100 times better game than DAoC was, which means perfection, heck, I'd even play DAoC today if they just updated the engine etc.

First MMO: Everquest (Tunare Server, Ronin/Tide Guild)
Pirates of the Burning Sea should be the next big mmorpg!
It looks awesome and has a great looking pvp system
I'd put my money on Warhammer Online, Pirates of the Burning Sea, and...although I personally won't go for it, Star Trek Online.
RF Online will probably be a fairly good game when they fix it up a little more with updates, too.
Here are the games I will be watching on and probably playing:
1 -- Darkfall Online
2 -- Heros Journey
3 -- Trials of Ascension
4 -- Crusade Online
5 -- Warhammer Online
6 -- Bioware's MMORPG
7 -- Stargate Worlds
8 -- Star Trek Online
Im currently playing World of Warcraft.
