Elite Dangerous - Harry Potter kills the Thargoids !

ErillionErillion Member EpicPosts: 10,317
Its been done !

The first Thargoid ship has been killed by a player - ironically the commanders name is "Harry Potter".

The newly developed anti-Thargoid weapons (see video and previous posts here) have been used for effect.

Here is a detailed report on anti-Thargoid fleet operations (you find a lot more on YouTube)

Have fun

I think I really miss the days when game devs prohibited commercialised names, but at least he wasn't called "Hairy Putter"

Good video, ED is still on my to do list, thanks for sharing.

Was there really a time in which names like that were prohibited? I don't ever remember playing a game where I didn't see people with obnoxious names or names based on some show, game, movie, or book.

    The devs tried.

In SWG they DID forbid "JabbatheSlut" as player name .....

Yes,  back around 2002 Lineage 1 and DAOC were very stern about that,  so were many players.

I recall when I  started playing WOW at launch my son received a heated private tell taking issue with his non fantasy name, nothing offensive but some subtle play on words that a 13 year old found amusing.

I used to regularly report names through 2006 or so in games like LOTRO but after that no dev seemed to care, not even on RP servers.

I joined EVE about that time where naming concerns are rarely given issue.

The world changed, not for the better IMO but it is what it is.

Been having loads of fun with the introduction of Thargoids, they're a pretty mean customer.

I like that there's a whole bunch of aggression levels which are indicated by the symbol that shows up on your hud, nothing so basic as normal mob, silver, gold etc. There's also been the discovery of another ship which is much more like the original Thargoid design from the 1984 game.

It's also interesting seeing what is happening with the barnacle sites, they are growing into something, from a bird's eye view they seem to be much of a similar shape to the colossal Thargoid structures found some time ago. I'm looking forward to seeing where Frontier take all this stuff.

    Ouch time.

The Thargoids have adjusted to the new player weapons (aka the nerf patch).

The new weapons do less damage by a factor of 50 (!), the evade skill of the Thargoids has gone up and their drones are stronger.  At the moment it has become extremely hard to kill Thargoids ... especially when you consider that most players do not have those new weapons yet.

Ugh, I hate nerfing, usually always the ship or class I recently finished training for in any game I've played.

In EVE I solved the problem by training enough pilots to fight every ship/weapon/ defense combo so could easily shift to the latest fotm build.

Looking forward to trying this one day.

There's a new anti-Thargoid weapon available, haven't seen any reports of how effective they are yet. There's also a new Community Goal set up so that Aegis (manufacturer of anti-Thargoid tech) can continue their research and development.

Some diligent people catalogued the Thargoid designation. I assume the more solid the outer ring the higher 'ranked' they are. It's like something from Arrival.
