I hope they monetize the game even further so that these types of people will give them more money for what is almost certainly a hopeless cause! Maybe then those types of people will be out of money so that companies will stop catering to them with overly monetized cash shops. Well, we can dream!
Thats off the top of my head. Do YOU really understand what CoE is?
Yes I understand the game, not that your list did anything anything to further that understanding. But I do understand *you* now; according to you, any purchase for an in-game reward is P2W. If a kid buys sunglasses in Gaia online... he is paying to win. Got it, thanks for clarifying your view on the model. I would like some further clarification if you don't mind.
1. Since backers have already won the game, is there any point in them playing?
2. Since backers have already won the game, is there any point in other people playing?
3. Since an early start = pay to win. Will first year subscribers fall into the P2W bracket compared to 2nd year new subscribers?
4. After exposition has ended and the cash shop is gone, will it no longer be considered P2W by your definition?
Regarding your complaint, it seems to have changed again.
1. It began with complaints about the cash shop. 2. Then it turned into complaints about P2W. 3. Then it turns out in your clarification post, it was about the time line. 4. Now you are saying it's not really about the time line, but it's about the mocking nature of Jeremy.
Skipping over all these new accounts was amusing. I think my favorite was the guy who attacked SoL because they are earning their own money rather than selling p2w aspects.
CoE mocking SoL.. let's bring Pantheon into this too and have a Royal Rumble of overpromised games.
You must not have skipped over ALL of the new accounts like you said. Amusing? Quite.
"Earning their own money rather than selling p2w" is pretty ridiculous. Like I stated in my first post which you must not have thoroughly read, money from kickstarters is an income. I've backed many kickstarters, including the Bill Nye movie (still waiting for it) and the money goes towards the production of what you're backing. If you're backing something where the creators don't work on it 24/7 and haven't accounted for all costs (including their living expenses) in the production you don't have someone who is committed to the project you're backing. Furthermore, if they have the time to create and sell products for their unfinished and backed project they should have used that time towards the project instead. This is how delays and poor content happen. You can't distract yourself with other activities if you truly want something to be great and successful.
CoE isn't mocking SoL. I'm bringing to light the problems that I see. If you want to continue to flame go ahead and bring Pantheon or any other game into it.
Wait. I just registered at mmorpg.com but Ive been following and reading both analyzis and reviews with interest for many years. I have no particular interest in this game or SoTA or CU (a bit I admit) or AoC (AO= anatchy online still in my world), but I do find it interesting how deteriorating the discussion of up and coming MMORpGs have become. Obviously it could be because the future is grim (was it better before?) or because the game companies are more greedy (are they more greedy than before?). What I find trublesome is the saltyness among the most frequent posters. Theres nothing wrong about trying to find faults or warning player/memberbase about hoax and scams, but the last year or so you guys have gone beyind that. I am also a member and to a certain degree contribute to other gaming forums, but this here I dont really want to dip my toes into because of the rancidness. Youre slowly making yourself a club for grumpy old men! And bashing on about the same topic, making it miracously grow to humungous size...guys...SOme of you have basically posted the same anger towards this and other games, just twisting the words a bit. Be constructive and when youve made your poin t move on! I know Slapshot hates this game. Fair enough. But im done reading him making the same points. Its not the end of the world. Players have invested cash in hopeless games/projects/systems for decades. I think in retroperspective the whole p2w thing started with UO actually. Ive enjoyed games since then. I dont know if Im gonna test this game out but seriously im more tempted to buy it and play it now than before (im only playing wvw/massive pvp MMO's, GW2, WAR etc.) BECAUSE of the same stale statements from the most rancid. Move on. If you cant stay away from posting from the saltmine take a break, go out enjoy the day if its sun. Sometimes life is good ya know!

Who did Jeremy mock?
1-3 I see you are going to play the "literal" game with us. Ahh, we have never seen that one before! OK, for further reference (since you are new here) P2W can be interchanged with using real world money to buy in game advantages. Kind of like paying real money to start with extra in game money in Monopoly or maybe a few key locations like ParkPlace and Boardwalk. SURE, theoretically I can lose those in game but that's really not the point.
4- The end of the Exhibition (no wipe 3 month head start) will be the MOST P2W time in the game, as the first wave of plebs hits the shore.
For your second 1-4 (curious notation system...) I am unsure why you think there can only be one complaint. Often when responding to posts people will add to their prior points. That is the nature of how forums work. It invalidates nothing about the content. Feel free to stick around and engage in some other threads.
Your bonus question? He mocked everyone that legitimately looked at his 2017 full release date and said it was impossible. As for that quote, it was taken from the CoE forums. Have fun searching.

This reminds me of the Greedmonger debate with the creator (can't remember his name) awhile ago and how it got totally out of control. lol.
I tend to have a good eye for characters. Henrik Nystrom from Mortal Online, Ryan Dancy from Pathfinder Online, Jason Appleton and James Proctor from Greedmonger, Steven from AoC and Jeremy from CoE. The first 3 proved out to be disasters. We will see how these last 2 end up. I kind of like my batting average though.

Indeed.
I would like to point out the "rancidness or hate" some can't see past is more like experience and loss of gullibility. I would also say it's more in the nature of not liking it when someone tries to blow smoke up our collective behinds.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Anytime I see someone use the tired excuse of "there are always delays in every project" , I cringe ... white knights, devs, and critics need to toss that excuse out on it's bum. Project management is a thing .. please just stop.

It doesn't happen in every project but it sure as hell happens. Or do we need to list some of the major setbacks that large projects have accrued? Heck, I'm in the Boston area and Big Dig comes to mind. or 2nd Avenue subway in New York.
And yes, in software development, delays to happen.
So no need to try to insult people or say that "Project management" is a panacea for all software (or any other project) delays.
Because it's not.

And to be clear.. my problem has always been his knack for over-promising with ridiculous timelines (which were later compounded by what I believe are over the top P2W components).
Hello Slapshot,
I don't want to insult your intelligence and I can see by your post count and the community you are a member of that it must be safe to assume that when it comes to MMO's, you know a thing or two. So I'm a little surprised to see you clarify your true complaint; the delay of an MMO when, as anyone with well-cut MMO teeth would know, nearly every MMO falls short of their time line. Actually no, most fall FAR from their timeline. The last two MMO's I waited for, Archeage, and more recently Albion Online were greatly delayed. IIR, ALbion was delayed by 3 years compared to their initial time line... let me check my notes real quick:
Here we go: Initial launch date set for 2008. Then there was no date provided for YEARS until in 2013 they said Q3 2015, then Q4 2015, then 2016 with no quarter and finally, this past July 2017, it launched, and the game is dead from Beta burnout.
This is an extreme example of delay, 2008 to 2017, almost a freaking decade. But it's not an extreme example of a specific delays. Delays with MMO's are par for the course. This is something I would expect you to know, here on an MMORPG community, with over 7000 posts to your name, knowing so much about the MMO industry, I mean, you've probably been around since Meridian, am I right? Or maybe MUDS on AOL 2.0 when you paid by the hour, $2.99 per hour.
Do delays in MMO's really shock you?
And do you truly not understand what a P2W model is? $40 and you own COE and can play it for a year, how does that compare to a standard $15/mo for a one year period for other subscription MMOs? I'll give you a hint, it's less. ;-) And if you want to play for another year after having already bought the game, it's a whopping $26, less than what it costs to pay for 2 months for many other standard subscription rates... and you literally have access to everything anyone else does, there is no P2W. Backers spending $1000's.... yes, and they can lose it, so why back it? Because it's not P2W, they are paying to support and see the culmination of something unique happen to the MMO industry, and titles. You think titles are P2W? Do you really understand what COE is?
To your first point. It's not just the delay itself. It's the way Jeremy mocked people who told him his timeline was unrealistic. I have quoted his comments above. Rule #1: You want to talk the talk, you better be able to walk the walk.
To your second point. Nobody is complaining about his subscription model. It's all the rest of the P2W garbage. And no, because you can lose something doesn't mean it's not P2W. Here are a few:
No wipe 3 month Headstart in a PvP game with looting based around territory control and conquest. Buy yourself land Buy yourself a title all the way up to King and other players will be your subjects Buy resources Buy mounts and transportation Buy siege weapons Buy things like technology enabling buildings Buy tokens to make your town bigger/stronger: The more tokens the Mayor receives, the greater the settlement becomes. Each token increases population and, at certain thresholds, tokens will create special Settlement Upgrades that your Mayor can use to increase the city limits, add additional buildings, and more! Buy tokens to make your Guild bigger/stronger: The more tokens your leader receives, the greater the organization becomes. Each token increases research points or resources, depending on the organization type. At certain thresholds, tokens will create special Organization Upgrades that your Leader can use to create guild halls, get additional resources. Buy tokens for $10 each to "vote" for the last Kingslot on the East server since nobody else wanted to pay the $10,000 list price
Thats off the top of my head. Do YOU really understand what CoE is?
This deserves a song and some GIFs and pics.

Actually incompetence in project mgmt is a bit of a pattern thing, one failure doesn't prove this really, no matter how far off it is.

I think you agree with my point, even though it seems you missed it. Using the excuse " there are always delays in every project" or some form thereof is unacceptable as a reply to a delay. You can't excuse it simple because you ( not you directly ) consider it a normal occurrence... it's a bullshit excuse I see more and more associated with development these days.
What you can do is explain why you had delays, why your forecast was off. As far as PM being a panacea, I never implied that.. It doesn't prohibit ALL delays or problems from occurring what it does do is properly budget for those occurrences.
Hopefully it's a little more clear now, if you felt my frustration at the blanket excuse of "everything suffers delays" was in some way insulting you .. can't really do anything for yah there.
Edited to Add * - I also don't mean to imply there aren't problems which are unforeseen and the PM ( or whomever ) can't predict .. they do occur.

He calls out shady looking games on a regular basis based on information provided by the developers themselves. How is that negative or misinformation? Looks to me like he's just pointing out the obvious that unfortunately some people can't see.

I didn't miss the point I just didn't agree with the finality of it.
this post above makes more sense. The other post seemed to intimate that someone saying there are always delays (thouhg I've seen quite a few delays in my life time, "always" seems too definite but I've always seen delays in software companies I've worked for, even if it is a week) means they are a white knight or have their head in the sand.
And no, no insult at all. It just seemed a bit to sparse of a post and invited too many questions. the one above is much better.
Also, I should add, I'm rarely insulted but I can disagree with someone.

Could you please post an example of this "misinformation" he has been posting for years? I assume since you say he has been doing it for years you would have no problem showing us many examples of his continued misinformation.
That is, unless you are the one posting the misinformation...

MMORPG.COM, if you are going to post here, you'd better be wearing your big boy pants.
I was thinking, when I read one of those brand spanking new accounts claim MMORPG.com forums have a toxic reputation earlier in the thread, that the label really translates into "doesn't take bullshit well." That's the kind of label I think we can all be proud of.

Who did Jeremy mock?

And yes, in software development, delays to happen.
So no need to try to insult people or say that "Project management" is a panacea for all software (or any other project) delays.
Because it's not.

When you miss your target date by 100% and counting you are either untruthful from the start, or incompetent. In this case I think it was clearly number two.

You can go back many years and see he's been making threads exactly like this for as long as he's been a member of these forums.
These forums have a reputation for being toxic, and you can thank Slapshot for being a huge contributor towards it.
Edited to Add * - I also don't mean to imply there aren't problems which are unforeseen and the PM ( or whomever ) can't predict .. they do occur.
this post above makes more sense.
