Honestly it feels like justice for me. The team behind this game are really incompetent when you have a problem. I got banned for no reason and lost my founders pack. Wrote a long report to Disney/Marvel about it. So basically kinda happy to see this company get their due. Those packs were not cheap.
Yup they banned me too for posting on the forums I was thinking about a chargeback for a fraudluent charge if they didn't refund me. I got silenced on the forums and in game. When I wrote to customer service asking why and complaining about fraudulent charges on my account, they banned me from the game after about $1500 spent on it. They never told me why i was warned and silenced initially. They only told me that the chargeback threat was against the TOS (which is not listed in the at the time) and they only told me on the email they sent banning me. Thankfully I went to my credit card and they charged back all close to $1500 I had spent on the game over the previous year. Never looked back.
I am happy to see the game close and even more importantly the company close. It deserves it, and there were some truly terrible people working for the company. I feel bad for certain dev's and artists like TheDink who was amazing in every way, but I have zero remorse for the game or company as a whole. Good riddance to a ripoff crap developer.
Parts of the game were fun but many things about it were screwed up and lacked any like of creativity. Oh, you just beat Loki? Guess what, he suddenly gets new power and the fight continues. That was one thing I really hated, how you had to beat many of the bosses twice.

Loki and Doom are the only bosses that are like that...

This is why I only ever play subscription MMOs and not F2P. Raagnarz spent approximately 10 years worth of subscription in a single year!
This is hopefully a pretty extreme case, but even so it goes to show that F2P is basically buy to win and rarely cheaper in the long run if you want the 'full game experience'.
The concept was always amazing but never felt right. Marvel Ultimate Alliance was a vastly superior ARPG based on the marvel universe. If they could have recaptured that it would have been a smash hit.
Too many people that need to be refunded means they can't even keep it open for one more month, maybe? Keeping it open at this point would just be bleeding money that they need to pay the refunds.
I know a lot of people are upset and wanting refunds for their purchases in @MarvelHeroes, but please keep in mind the developers were not paid out PTO, severance, and our medical insurance is ending in 8 days.
refunds for what? its a digital purchase. its not something you keep. im not sure why people feel they deserve refunds to a game? i spent hundreds. all games come to an end sometime. i never bought anything expecting a refund.

People asking for refunds are mostly console players, the game launched for XBox One and PS4 less than 5 months ago.
The logic is that the developer must give you reasonable amount of time to enjoy your purchases.

Yea, the majority of PC players stopped spending long ago or didn't have anything to spend on anyways (since they haven't released a new hero on PC to actually buy in like, forever, besides Carnage, and by then people were drowning in eternity splinters)
The Consoles meanwhile launched with Founders' Packs costing hundreds and everyone started out with one hero and needed to buy the others and costumes and whatever so console shopping was quite hefty (albeit clearly not hefty enough). But when pretty much anyone buys a friggin' FOUNDER'S pack for a game that JUST LAUNCHED, a person kinda expects that game to last more than a pathetic 6 months. Especially when Gaz claimed they renewed the license for another 7 years.
Of course, those players don't have any legal ground to stand on. It's thus more a moral thing than a legal thing. Which is why Sony doesn't seem to be issuing refunds whereas Microsoft is and looking like saints compared to Sony for it (whereas Sony were looking like real jackasses).
It's doubtful Microsoft is absorbing the full cost of the refunds and not getting any of it from Gazillion, I imagine.
I feel for anyone being laid off during the holidays. But it's the creator of marvel heroes who decided to pour Salt onto the wounds of his former colleagues at blizzard when d3 had some struggles, karma is a bitch.
That has to be the worst thing. Showing up for work and being told you're let go and that your medical runs out in a week. Right before the holidays. That mouse can be vicious. Best of luck to all.

I wish that someone would pick up and run this game but I know it's not gonna happen. For me, it's the only decent superhero game out there. Farewell MHO. I miss City of Heroes soooooooooooo much!
Proud MMORPG.com member since March 2004! Make PvE GREAT Again!
You would think that with the Marvel IP it would just be a license to print money. I mean it's kind of awe inspiring to fuck up this bad. While the movies and tv shows are knocking it out of the park.
Also makes me very alarmed at the whole games as a service thing since with Ultimate Alliance I can still play the game but this just gets killed and nobody gets to play it at all anymore.

The players have some legal ground to stand on. It's unclear legal ground because there isn't much legislation that would have been made for these kind of cases, but a consumer might successfully argue in court: -Since the time when Gazillion would shut down the service wasn't specified in the contract, it's implied that the service lasts for a reasonable duration, or -Service shutting down this soon makes the contract between customer and Gazillion or some terms in that contract unfair
Why the hell couldn't they make an offline single player mode? Just take the money and kill it...
This is the winning comment. Many MMOs can't be single player games without missing a lot. Honestly, this game doesn't need servers. They could give it LAN and adhoc modes and allow there to be 3rd party match making. No point in having servers, I played almost all of the game solo.

the money i spent was on console. theres no timetable for digital purchases. if i spent $300 today and a game shuts down tomorrow, oh well. life has no guarantees. neither do games.

Actually that's completely false I own many games that I can play with support for hosting my own servers that will never shut down, with no DRM, and I can do what I want with them because I actually own them instead of this bullshit games as a service no guarantee system.

This is so stupid... There should be regulations against corporations like Disney randomly pulling the plug on contracts that provide an ongoing service to consumers. People should have months of warning, the company should have months of warning. Livelihood should not be so easily taken.
Corporations have way too much power in this country... but then, that's not news.

Its not Disney's fault and people need to stop blaming them. All IP licenses have clauses to protect the IP owner against the soiling of their brand. Disney is fiercely protective of their IPs, IE cashcows", namely Star Wars and Marvel. When companies do shit that bring them bad press and hurt their brand they either shape up or Disney (or any IP owner) ships out and pulls the license. Gaz's CEO is the video game equivalent of Harvey Weinstein by all accounts. Gaz's poor decisions business wise left the game practically insolvent even after the console release, add to that the scandal surrounding the CEO, and Disney was 100% within its rights to yank the license. Disney even made an offer to buyout the game but Gaz refused. Disney made a called to EA mere hours before EA pulled the loot boxes. I hate huge corporations, but I completely defend Disney on this, they want their IP licensees to uphold the Disney standard. Frankly maybe not even the Disney standard, just a standard of common decency.

HA! As if.
Instead of slapping EA on the wrist and threatening them to straighten up, they gave them the entire SW IP to mess up.
