Overwatch News - Overwatch League Commissioner Nate Nanzer has sent out a new video to let players know that a new currency called League Tokens will be introduced in 2018. This special currency will be used by players to purchase Overwatch League skins that will not be available in Loot Boxes. The currency and sales of skins directly supports teams in the League.

I like how they pretend to give a crap about "funding the league" with the earnings that these jerseys will make. What percentage do you actually think will go into the game? 1 percent?
They can try to cover the turd with sprinkles, but it will still taste like ****.
35 million copies of OverWatch has been sold. The game is 40 for the standard and 60 for the special. Do they really need to add MicroTransactions?
EA 2.0
Two points about this new currency that you should be aware of:
1) the tokens allow players to purchase the exact skins they want. No randomness, just a straight up transaction for the stuff you want. Proceeds from purchasing the tokens goes directly to the team. Think of buying a jersey for your favorite sports team.
2) there is nothing pay to win in Overwatch -- skins, voice lines, sprays and player icons don't count.
By the way: Blizzard doesn't sell anything other than loot boxes. So it's kinda not a "shop" in the usual sense.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I own the game. Moreover, the Jerseys aren't ones you can find in the loot boxes. If you want something from the lootbox selection, you still have to buy lootboxes.
Getting sick of constant cash shop crap. This is a fricken tiny FPS... not some major MMORPG that requires constant upkeep / updates.
Um....are you daft?! "Sold 35 million copies"... the servers aren't Peer-2-Peer cheap connect. They're actively hosted by Blizzard. Even if they were a P2P connection, the game has gotten constant updates including: Halloween, Christmas, Olympics, Anniversary, Chinese New Year just to name a few. And those are just the 'event' ones, not including the added maps, heroes, and revamps. Overall this game maybe an FPS, but the developers treat it very much like an MMO ...and community size, I would say is Massive.

How am I daft? Very little is being networked in the game, e.g., player transform, simple raycasting, etc. At 20 ticks, the information flow is so minimal. You can host your very own MMORPG that will support countless players for VERY cheap. The seasonal updates? That cost is next to nothing. Once the game is made, updates and content is extremely easy.
yes I agree, how dare Blizzard try to make money as a for profit company. . .
It's not 20 tick since last December. Have you been living under a rock mate? Also yes, this money goes directly into the franchised teams. The same teams that recently paid-off 20 million dollars for a spot. There are 12 Overwatch League teams, so I'm fairly certain it's not a cash grab scheme, but rather, a way for these teams to recoup the 20 million pay, ya know, since those teams aren't a charity either and they have to pay a minimum salary of $50k/year for every signed player
...
Mind you, some players receive $100k+ (e.g. google Sinatraa OWL)

What is it now?
64 tickrate iirc for every match, including custom games, as the "High Bandwidth" setting has been removed from server setting and moved into USER options and turned ON by default. If you have a wonky or a metered connection you can opt-in for low bandwidth through game's options.
