World of Warcraft News - If you've been hoping to play, for instance, a Dark Iron Dwarf, you will be able to IF you own a copy of the World of Warcraft expansion, Battle for Azeroth. The information came through datamined strings of code that indicate the game will make several checks at character creation. This includes whether or not BfA is part of your game client and whether or not you have the Allied Race Unlock achievement for the race you would like to make your character.

I don't see what the news is. Haven't you always had to pay for the xpac to access the new races? I wasn't expecting anything less.

It's news because a lot of people expected they'd be able to play them from 20 to whatever the expack cap is they own. However, in a way, it's unsurprising since to even unlock them, you have to have gained exalted reps with HM Tauren, LFD and NB. Dark Iron and Zandalar won't unlock until you play through the BFA campaign. Nobody knows about Velves, though since they're tied to Alleria, Legion is a requirement.

That said, I think some folks were hopeful they'd be available anyway. Silly people. :D

The new races were intended to appease the alt-o-holics that were denied the ability to play their alts during Legion because of the way the artifact system worked.  So it's like a perk for those who like to play alts... you gain access to these new races after having played through the content.

It's not the same thing as new races as we know them.  Hence they will add more of these as the game progresses.  These were never intended to be anyone's main... more like collecting a race instead of a pet or other items.

The misleading statement on Blizzards part was in stating there was a perk for playing a new race from 20-120... that led some to believe that you could play at launch... which isn't the case at all.  If you want to play one of the new races as a main, you're going to have to consume the content at a pace faster than ever before.

Just another way to get you to play longer... more sub money for them!

I agree there. I would have disagreed when WoW was subcription only. Why leave out paying customers from something essential as race at character creation. However it's possible to play for free when you manage to get enough gold ingame. So yeah the freeloaders ruining it once again for the paying customer ;)

But....but, Bill! Don't you know? All gamers "deserve" to access every bit of MMO content for zero dollars! Down with these "evil" companies, trying to make money from their labor! LOL

I figured putting this up now was a proactive measure against the inevitable whining from people who thought they'd be available to everyone. :)

It has always been you needed the new xpac to play new races, the only reason all races are opened up in todays game is they came with older xpacs that are now part of the default game and had their restrictions removed...
  • jmalminjmalmin Member UncommonPosts: 44
.... does this surprise anyone at all? I mean come on? its a feature of the coming expansion, So of course you will need to own the expansion to use this new feature... Come on people...

Well yeah,it was shown as a feature of battle of azeroth at the blizzcon wow panel, the first 4 allied races will come most probably before the expansion hits in 7.3.5 with the leveling changes and you gain acces to them as a prepurchase bonus of the expansion.

    Aren't we* some shit???????
In one thread we defend loot boxes and the "publisher's right to earn money" and in the next, expect Blizzard to give free handouts.

    LOL.

It's ironic really that the "everything must be free and accessible to all" mentality has gotten us to the point where developers have to resort to subterfuge and trickery to make any money at all, lol

There is a perk for playing them from 20 to max.  That is the only way to unlock the armor set that is exclusive to that race.  That's it, that is all they have ever said.  Your comment about the perk is confusing and misleading itself.  As you said these are for people who like to level up alt's etc...don't see the confusion.  These are not for someone to jump into straight out the gate and play the new content, sure you can level boost one but what would be the point in that when it takes no time at all to level up to max level.

there is no way i would ever level a character in WOW from 20-110,this is for real WOW fans.
  • Geddon95405Geddon95405 Member UncommonPosts: 111
yeah i might pay for a race change but there is no way i'm gonna level new characters. Not a great value prop to level SOLELY for a new race

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women...

You don't have to level them. You unlock Allied Races with your existing characters by gaining exalted reps (etc.?) in Legion. You can then race change to your heart's content. The only reason some folks may level a new Allied Race from 20-110 would be to get the Heritage cosmetic armor set. Otherwise, once unlocked, always there for race changing.

That's a bit perplexing since people testing 7.3.5 on the PTR are reporting that allied races are present there.
  • seafirexseafirex Member UncommonPosts: 419
But again leveling from 20 to 110 takes what 5 to 6 hours prob 1 or 2 days for the slow people. No need to be a true fan of wow for that. Almost everyone that has wow got there boa's or can get easy refer a friend scroll form someone.

But i can understand that some just skipped some of the GM's info when it was given and assumed different things, it is always the case when they say something. But to be clear even if it would have been a new class or race like previous expacs you would still have to buy the new expac to play that said class or race. It always was that way even if it could be unlocked at 20 or 50.

Agreed.  As far as I know, current players were never promised the new races without purchasing the expansion.

Corrected that for you And if people are wanting to play yet can't make enough to pre-order between now and then via in game means, they shouldn't even bother playing tbh. You can make 60$ worth in tokens passively over 2-3 months.

Expansion features locked behind the purchase of said expansion?

In other news, the sky is blue.

Actually they said you could work for the races from 110 so you are wrong in that

I look forward to the new races. My only concern is how overpowered some of the racials are. For example, "Preternatural Calm" for Void elves is an overpowered passive. "Your spell casts are not delayed by taking damage". There is no way they will leave that for launch unless they expect every spell caster to start or race change into a void elf. At least I'm hoping they are smart enough not to.
