"My Fantasy is having two men at once...

oh sorry...that's wine...wine does that..."
I'm with you on the apparent slow-ness. The characters run about as fast as my grandma walks, and she's dead. The hit detection looks horrible, IMO. I am admittedly not a huge fan of this series but to me this looks like a lot of massive hype, although in this day and age, seemingly EVERY new game is the "best" or "groundbreaking" or some other hyperbole-laden description. *Shrug*
For example "the speed is just fine".
LilithM being "visual" only has to do with "them" not liking the art design. But the art design is great. "My" qualm is that stupid cat. But even then it's done well, just not my thing.
I strongly suspect the game is everything they say it is because the people who are saying it actually like this game.

I don't deny that at all, and even said I am admittedly not a fan of the series. That would suggest to me that I don't like it, but lots of others do. That certainly doesn't make it a bad game or mean anything is wrong with it, it's just my opinion. And I most certainly didn't accuse MH of being the only game with hyperbole-laden descriptions, I just think it's awfully commonplace now. Just as you said, it's not my thing. I never said that because "I" don't like it, nobody else should, or that their impressions are wrong.

Go back under your bridge.
The combat is super fun initially. Fighting the first several smaller enemies feels right. There is a definite impact and weight behind every swing and strike that feels so satisfying, however, that quickly goes away once enemies start towering above you, flying overhead, or constantly burrowing underground to dodge your animation-locked attacks. At that point (about 5-6ish quests in), the weapons feel overly heavy, slow, and the mobs begin to feel like gigantic HP sponges.
Perhaps its just going to take some getting use to, however, after about 12+ hours playing with several weapons (Glaive, Dual Swords, Bow, Gunlance) combat is still super clunky at times to me.
Another minor part that prevents it from being a big win in my book is the repetitiveness of the hunts/upgrade system. Chasing a new, giant dinosaur down for 25-30 minutes is *super* fun and rewarding once you finally beat it ... for the first time. After that it *really* becomes a grindy chore to get gear upgrades. It is super neat to see your first turf war between two gigantic dinosaurs, but it then becomes an expected outcome every time you complete that hunt thereafter.
The story is practically non-existent, but no one plays a dinosaur-hunting game for the story. No loss there, for me.
It truly is drop-in co-op. I definitely wouldn't consider this a multiplayer game, but rather one you might play with a few friends occasionally.
I think its a really fun game for the combat the first time through, but I don't see much replay-ability or longevity in it so far. It reminds me *a lot* of Horizon Zero Dawn, but I found Horizon to be more enjoyable for my personal play style and tastes. The long loading screens and lobby-style game play really put a damper on MHW for me, especially compared to Horizon. Right now, I'd give it a solid 7/10 -- definitely worth picking up and playing, but not likely going to be in my personal top 2018 list.
Captain Pawesome (my calico) and I need some sleep before delving deeper tomm.
Also, Xbox One X no graphical glitches. Had one weird body half die in a rock. But otherwise it was a fantastic playthrough on day one. Looks amazing.
I actually really hate these hand holding linear designs with the side showing your goals.I prefer YOUR game,YOUR world,YOUR way of playing, instead of just following some npc through a linear path.
Typical of Asian games, over sized weapons.
To me it just looks lie ka game telling you where to go ,what to do,your never playing your game.
Combat looks very simple, not intuitive at all.So yeah a dress up game, cool cat companion but i do not see a very fun game to play.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Even if i thought the graphics were good, the combat looks bad,i didn't see anything in customization other than sliders for visuals,so this is imo a very weak effort to build a game.
As i usually predict,it flies out of the gate, players obviously bored with everything else and just jump on the bandwagon of every new game.It is second only behind LOL right now because of some top streamers that never declare sponsored even though we all know they are sponsored all the time, the game will drop right out within a few weeks.
