Capcom has scored some serious cash with Monster Hunter World. The game has shipped more than five million units since it launched last week. This includes digital downloads of the game in the three days following its launch. This makes MHW the best-selling game in the series that has launched on PS4 for the first time in a decade and the first-time ever launch on any XBox.

Fantastic game haven't stopped playing it, those who get it on pc are in for an eye watering treat when it comes to how the game looks. It's looks beautiful on the PS4 Pro so the pc will look fantastic.

When you first enter the game you are on a ship on your way to the the new world and the totorial Islands.

As soon as you land you know your playing something special and a lot of effort has gone into the game.

While I feel that the combat is more than a little bit janky, I have been playing pretty much non-stop since Saturday, so it has to be doing something right. For me, it's probably the exploration, crafting loop, and tense encounters. Given that this is my first real exposure to the series, it's quite unlike anything I've ever experienced.

No wonder they are delaying the PC release.

Pretty good time to release imo. WoW is kind of in a dead phase regardless of the leveling "revamp" and FFXIV's content can be cleared in 2-3 days minus savage (or including savage if you're world firsters I guess). Nothing really on the horizon in terms of new releases for the rest of the quarter so little to no competition in the general sphere of things, especially with Destiny 2 floundering around until later in the year when most of the changes pretty much revert it to destiny 1. So for some, this is their version of a mmo-lite.

As someone who is new to the series its a really good game despite the performance issues on a regular PS4. My only issues with the game so far is the frame rate dips & the lack of models for weapons. Armor has all these different choices with all these cool looking sets and then you basically have iron & bone sword which barely changes, visually at least. It would have been cool to see a weapon set for each monster like they did with armor instead of the bland tree.

Outside of that the game has a very addictive hook to it, Its got that MMO loop  that really sucks you in.

Been dying for this on PC since Tri made me play on my Wii lo ke nothing else and saved me from a pretty rough summer. Absolutely love the series, but the kind of attention commitment it demands is something i usually reserve for PC games. Having been waiting for a PC release for years, a few more months might as well be a few more days!

I wonder if delayed PC release is a part of anti-piracy strategy? They likely to sell more console copies if people won't expect to get pirated PC copies instead of waiting for 8 months.

Well it's not like it's an MMORPG or lots of players in one area...so they know no one has to show off to another. Otherwise they'd be stupid not to milk it.

I swear to ... the world really needs to crack down on piraters. Those who use pirated content and those who provide such. We need some real harsh penalties.

The entire game is literally one big gear loop. This game was positively brimming with potential for microtransactions, and they chose not to take advantage of it.

@Aeander If the game is a "big gear loop" as you say, wouldn't microtransactions contradict and destroy the very essence of the game?

Yes. But these two points are not contradictory. We see publishers design or undermine entire progression systems for the sake of microtransactions.

While something like SWBF2 is a case of designing a system around microtransactions, we see what Monster Hunter could have been in last year's other controversial release - Shadow of War. Shadow of War undermined their entire selling point (the nemesis system) by stuffing orcs into lootboxes. This resulted in an artificially imbalanced endgame and even robbed orcs of much of their personality and identity, destroying the very essence of the game.

I have nothing to play so I bought it last night. Booting it up now on my PS4. If it's good and I'm still interested I'll buy it on PC too, since I have an expensive PC that plays like 0 resource intensive games lol.

We also have games like Diablo 3 and Grim Dawn that are big gear loops, like most ARPGs, and they have no cash shop either. It just depends on the game. In fact the cash shop in D3 added so much controversy that they removed it.
You kind of proved my point though, didn't you? D3 did have a cash shop entirely because of the type of game it was. It undermined the entire point of the game, and people hated it. Yes, it was removed, but it did exist, and it was kept around long enough for ActiBlizzard to make their money.

(Grim Dawn is different. It's an indie game, and it relies on good will and positive word of mouth to survive. The benefits of a cash shop in such a game would be less tangible because of its smaller community, while bad PR could have prevented the game from ever taking off).

For me depends on the PC port actually working, their Resident Evil 4 must have been the worse port ever created. And that's accounting for that Batman game. o.o

I don't see numbers as being anything meaningful and i learned that way back when Farmville was reeling off millions of dollars.Times have changed, lots of foolish spending now a days, more money than brains.

I have over the last few years witnessed almost EVERY single new game become instantly popular because gamer's are bored and will play whatever the next big streamer is playing for a week then rinse and repeat.

I am not going to point at particular games but i have seen total low budget junk doing well,so how could Capcom not do well imo they would have to be totally incompetent to not do well.

Let's talk about Monster hunter in a month from now when it is dying off very quickly and talk about how so many gamer's just jump on every new bandwagon with no merit what so ever.

Right now gaming and spending is like a gambling or alcoholic disease, very foolish spending across all aspects of gaming.
My opinion,Monster Hunter is barely a 5/10,meaning i don't want to play it,not even a little bit,not even for free.So why would i care if 5 million copies are sold, does that mean i am supose to jump off that same bridge just because everyone else is?

Like I said they'd make a fortune if they sold MH on a real console, (being ps4 no ne cares about xbone anymore), Insted of some underpowered nintendo shiz.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!
