We Love MMOs, So Lets Give MMOFTW All The Help We Can!

Thought I would post with a few tips for Bill to get MMOFTW up there with the top liked gaming videos:

1) First you have to throw any concept of journalistic integrity and professionalism to the wind.

2) Include a picture of your face on the videos graphic which either has your hand over your mouth or doing “the scream”. Many great examples above.

3) Your voice needs to be really “shouty man”, but just posh Shakespearian for the RPG aspects of the game. When you are really angry about anything RPG, then a shouty Shakespearian would be great.

4) A Cos-play or even better a LARP costume would really help, full chain hauberk is not that comfy but think of the hits.

5) You need to practice inane over acted expressions in the mirror so you can do them on cue, like “surprised OMG” face etc.

6) Good titles for MMOFTW include:

Death of “insert here”. WoW would be a great first choice.

The Biggest Cheater in “insert here”. Any industry ex-gamer will do.

Anything with words like Maddest, Dumbest etc.

7) Everything you say has to be an emotional piece of drama, which may mean you have to just make it up as you go along but who cares, this is about audience not credibility.

8) One problem I can’t think of a remedy for; you are not a teen, not even in your twenties. You may have been in the gaming industry longer than most of them were out of diapers but you simply do not have the vast experience of gaming that all the twenty something’s have. That’s what allows them to spout off half baked commentary and be so right. Every. Single. Time.

I am sure other posters can come up with some great ideas themselves!

Generally speaking, if you want to improve popularity don't include Anita Sarkeesian into the equation at all, she is to gaming what Hitler was to Jewish diplomatic relations :o

I did not do the graphic, clearly others have realised how inane gaming commentary is. I did not know who she was, but I had wondered why they stuck her in there as her face was not really emoting. :)

That Anita name sounds familiar,is that kripp's wife,i don't think so though because she seems very quiet but the name rings a bell.

Op your thread is soo so accurate, the entire setup behind streamers and You Tube sensations is an act.

I especially notice the loud voice and typical swearing seems to get all those nerdy kids excited, like i have no idea what so ever how anyone can subscribe and constantly follow such asshats like Pewdiepie and well any of them really,Forsen another. Those channels just seem to attract people who like to spam nonsense.

I see a lot of the same trends as well, like using titles "positivity" ,constantly telling their subscribers donator's how great they are even though they don't know them at all.So yeah be a SELLOUT,integrity tossed out the window is a good one, basically just feed viewers a lot of BS.

In case of MMOFTW,i can't say i remember the first ones, maybe just vaguely but often there definitely appears to be an agenda behind them, sometimes not at all, they are hit n miss.I will say this, the MMOFTW episodes are a bazillion miles better than most every other content on this site as i usually rely on other users for the entertaining threads or information threads.I definitely do not buy into one single writers thread because those are all BS agenda threads, like 99% of them.

You know it is almost incredible this thread popped up because when i woke up i was thinking along the same lines while thinking about our government. Why do so many people have to write speeches and give us constant bull, why can't people just stand there and tell it from the heart, like they really mean it?I almost never get the feeling most threads are passionate from this sites employees the same way i feel about Trudeau or any government leader when he/she stands there reading from a piece of paper.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

While I am personally appalled by Gaming videos in general I think I understand the psychology behind it.

For decades (birth of PC's in the 70's through the mid 90's) being a "geek" or "nerd" was a bad thing. I grew up in the 80's. Balancing my love for games (VIC 20 and TRS-80 dude) and not wanting to get beat up and made fun of (wore glasses, kinda fat until I got to HS) was stressful.

But Bill Gates and his ilk turned that perception around, as vast amounts of money will do. Now it is cool to be a nerd. So folks like those pathetic-looking dudes in those screen-grabs in the OP show guys openly embracing their nerddome.

Problem is that being a "nerd" does not mean you are a whiny, pathetic, womanless faggot like those pictured above. They are embracing the negative stereotype that was prevalent in the early years of gaming/PC usage. That should stop.

What also should stop is putting your body-less floating head in every gameplay video you post. Isn't needed and takes up room on the screen that should be taken up by the actual game.

I wish this wasn't how most gaming videos were. But it's probably the reason I don't watch them anymore.

Oh I hate those guys. I like Bill as he is. Although I can't deny if he looked like Lea Seydoux I wouldn't had any complaints neither.

I'd say that judicious use of the word "destroys" is in order.

Bill Murphy Destroys [insert MMO or developer here].

An occasional "absolutely" or "totally" will keep it fresh.
