Sea of Thieves is the game many people have been looking at saving Microsoft from the idea that they have no first party titles worth purchasing. Sea of Thieves, in the end, is not that game.

A very rocky start indeed, not much game content either but it's fun to play.
I really hope they are going to add content very fast or they will loose a lot of players !!!

the content is the same as in beta ...

That's what I feared. Noble idea, but noble ideas by themselves only make for a novelty experience that wears thin quickly.

The launch issues are just the usual deal nothing surprising there.

What disappoints me on SoT is a wasted potential, it could be more online, a more persistent world, it decided to go on a co-op match-making sailing adventures that do can be fun but when the game is pretty much all about that, it's overly repetitive.

Have you folks rated it a 6.5 yet?

Don't agree at all. Exploring is great, people are too used to golden ! More will be added which will make it just better then it is. Lots of fun.

I called this crap MONTHS ago during the previews.

    1) Forced grouping. These are a minor group of players. No one wants to be FORCED to multiplayer. Especially not to be competitive. You can barely run your own sloop without issues.

    2) Content is not there. Please show me how this game separates itself from games like Sid Meyer's Pirates or even Assassin's Creed Pirates. There's nothing memorable about it.

    3) Launch mess. As always, they pushed to launch focusing on the wrong things. A game should be fun, not work.

Is this "article" anything more than rant about launch issues? Because I cant see it.
If I would put the same standards when criticizing your article, as you are putting on the game, you would be on par with Steam asset flips sold for .99.

Well they specify that more will be coming later in the actual review, and that they only got to play 10 hours. So maybe writing impressions off of a broken 10 hours of gameplay with server issues might not be the most solid way to tell people how the game is.

Launch mess should be expected. I really want to play, but am going to wait for a few months for the bugs to work out and some content to be added. There are plenty of examples where devs turned around a poor launch, and I'm hoping they pull it off. I remember my days playing Pirates! and hope to rejoin the setting.

Of course there are lots of examples where devs weren't able to pull up, but hopefully, these guys aren't those guys.

Betas proved to me there was no content, and I had high hopes. I won't touch this one again.

Sorry I disagree with you. The MASSES of Solo players which over run the MMORPG genera now dont want to do anything with anyone. This is exactly why MMORPGS are nothing more than Single player games now. You should be forced to group in an MMORPG or an Online game. If you dont like it play a single player game.

The biggest problem is they charged $60 for this thing...people would be alot more forgiving for $20 but they knew they had to grab the money and run.

I really don't think that's the case. This is a gamepass game, a lot of the playerbase comes from that, so I have a feeling they will support it rather well, especially with how much they hyped it. As long as they can get consistent updates the game will probably do fine.

Ive been having a blast, yes there were issues day one, most of them have been resolved and you can get in and play fine for the most part now.  I am starting to wonder if we are playing the same game but to each their own, in 10 hours you don't even have access to higher level voyages yet lol..... come back in like 20-30 more hours and rewrite your review.

See you in an underperforming game that is shutdown for lack of funds in a few months.

Is this an early access game, due to lack of content?

Definitely disappointed by the potential this game had. Unfortunately, looks like we'll have to wait till the sequel to see a well rounded game we should have gotten the first time around.

Forced grouping is pretty much niche now for gaming unless it is some random match up FPS or MOBA.

Doesn't matter: with Disney toon character graphics the game shouldn't be relevant to anyone older than 12 anyway.

The discussion can be broken down into two statements, the game is fun, but lack of content is a major issue.   Some have had server issues, I have fortunately not had them.  If you are looking for long term gameplay, you might have to wait awhile.

There monitization model will be the problem.  Not forced grouping.   Its a B2P game that has no other revenue after the initial purchase.   People like you are so miss informed on forced grouping.   MMORPGS were very successful when grouping was forced or even needed to progress.  Only when MMORPGS became Massive single player games did they start having huge problems with lack of funds.

No its not Niche at all.   Its just games are looking at Solo players as money and see there are more solo players.   Which in the end hurts the health of an online game.   Here is an idea, if you want a single player experiences why not play a single player game offline.   I was in the beta for SoT and can tell you that the problem was not with grouping, the problem was there is no depth to the game no progression at all and the game is just sailing around finding treasure.  Something most people will get bored with in a matter of a few weeks.  Its the same as todays raid treadmills.

This game will not be around long with very shallow game play and trying to make everyone equal all the time.
