That's fair. I didn't call it a clone of anything. I rhetorically asked if it can already be done in Second Life which the site doesn't offer anything that says the contrary.
"Alpha means that the game is mostly stable but under heavy development."
Is that not unfinished? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The response to my initial post was in regard to the last sentence. My reasoning is because folks are having normal reactions yet somehow they're warranting defense positions from official staff.
Why?
Oh, I'm not suggesting that you called it a clone. Just that it's a "game" sort of in the spirit (apparently) of other offerings. And yes, it's unfinished. I'm not sure if there is a "game" in there and if one has to make money in order to create one's space for exhibition.
I'm sort of ok with it it not being a game just like the SIMs is not a game really. If this becomes art world sims with the ability for players to show their own stuff then I think that's a win.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
If you look at the domain ".io" it says that domain must be registered from the Indian ocean area. That on top of the fact that this looks like a student project and that new poster that obviously has some personal stake with this game based on valiant defense(not appearance or name) plus the resident clan on this site that defends/props up scam games/ companies you have all you need to know.
Why have the developers themselves not come to this site to answer questions for their super niche project? You'd think they'd come to MMORPG if their game is an MMO and they could use the publicity? Probably cause they are students just trying to make a few quick bucks cashing in on the project they did for class and coming here to answer questions would reveal that.
It's one interesting nice idea, if decently moderated it'll be great for artistic people to show off their stuff, like a new take at online galleries with much better quality than places that allowed that before, such as SL.
If you know ANYTHING at all about game design and having played hundreds, thousands of games over several years, you SHOULD be able to know "enough" about a game without stepping in for even one second. Videos will tell a lot,the very login will tell a lot, seeing pictures will tell a lot, website tells a lot, especially in their descriptions and faq's.Then there is the even easier ideals based on stuff MISSING,if important stuff is missing that would make the game better and more immersive, then it is obviously a sub par game no matter what genre it is.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I actually gave it a try, the building aspect is quite solid, the visuals are good, if they allow custom art to be uploaded and displayed this could be a very good showcase of portfolios in a quite cool browsing form.
Just got on here and saw some of the comments so I'll try to do a good job...
I'm an artist/gamer who's been looking for a virtual art game that I could take seriously. I've waited patiently for some of the blockchain startups like Decentraland and MarkSpace to take off, even tried to get my art fix from games like Rust xD but I have yet to find something as intriguing and developed as OWW.
First off, the open landscape/sky sucked me in right away. Of course the intense graphics means you'll need a good computer (see https://www.oww.io/system-req) The game is different from other games I've come across. I have yet to be bored. For a virtual art gallery I found that odd, but getting on for 30 minutes to an hour every day has become part of my daily routine.
Also mmorpg isn't the first place I've seen people worried about "dick galleries". The thing is....you can choose from art before visiting the gallery that it's actually in and the artificial intelligence learns what you like....so if you like dicks go for it, but they're easily sidestepped.
I took a couple years of art history in college and never really felt the same way about fine art as I have from seeing my Van Gough's and Monet's virtually hanging from the walls. I understand gamers want action- to take chainsaws to the paintings (and who know's maybe that will be a feature one day) but as of now you can tell this game is geared toward VR art and creativity (yes please).
You can build your own gallery, curate art, listen to music, etc. There is a residual income based on how much you do in the game that accumulates even when you're not playing. This also gives me actual incentive to get on a little every day. With cloud gaming on the rise and VR getting more affordable in the future, I could see a lot of gamers and nongamers playing this game.
Downsides? Still in Alpha. Bugs. Good news? Regular updates and knowledgeable team.
Definitely worth your time if you're into the abstract world of art and architecture. Haters can hate but VR needs more beautiful spaces like this.
Hi everybody! how´s it going? I know this is a bit of a dead thread but, anyway, I just saw this vid on Youtube and it made me think of the discussion we were having about this Occupy White Walls game in here some days ago, so I guess I´m just gonna drop the link around in case somebody wants to take a look at it. I think it gives some valid points about the game and its dynamics, so, in case anybody is curious about what someone that seems to sum the concept of the game up better than I do would say about it, here you have it. Have a nice weekend!
Interesting game, played around with it a bit. Reminded me of a friend who had a Picasso print which was worth thousands, it looked like something a 3 year old would draw. I still think it is a game that you fool around for a week or two and move on to something else. Very limited even compared to the Sims.
what is someone criticizes your gallery or art? Can you beat them down?!!!! It's not really combat if you aren't using swords, guns, or magic... is it. I mean seriously, it's necessary for some people to get a beat down.
Looks kind of cool, but probably won't do well. MMOs (not MMORPGs - no such thing anymore) are mostly combat and crafting simulators. I see more people attempting to roleplay in Fortnite than I do in ESO, FFXIV, or GW2.

Well I didn't think people role played in GW2, but then I came across a group of them in Desert Highlands one night. Took them 20min to talk about the journey they were about to undertake. Nothing wrong with RP, just seems like a lot of work to me. As for FFXIV I think there are lots roaming around there. and may be a RP game of choice.

So we can't do all that and then cut each other up with chainsaws and full loot any art we have on us? Dang.
