The Division News - According to GameReactor.eu, inside sources are reporting that Massive, the company behind The Division and the upcoming Avatar game, is quietly investigating the possibility of creating a battle royale game for Ubisoft. From what the source said, Ubi asked Massive to begin thinking about a battle royale game in January. After a period of time considering the idea, the company indicated that it "could cook up something fun in pretty short amount of time" that could be based on The Division.

Unless they create something really unique and original I don't see them being able to pull players from Fortnite and PUBG. If they are hoping that their Division players will transition to their BR game I think that they will end up disappointed.

this nonsense needs to stop. all these publishers trying to cash in on "battle royale" is dis heartening. especially as someone who enjoys true ARPGs, MMOs, and RPGs and has been waiting for companies to go back to making solid, full, worlds. Things just keep getting shallower and more casual.

Game companies only care about profit (just like every other business!) - Battle Royale type games I assume are significantly cheaper and faster to develop than a fully realized MMO...not to mention they are more popular right now. In other words, get used to it...

They can add a BR game mode to The Division 2 with a combination of features from the Dark Zone and the Survival (from extreme cold and disease) from The Division 1 Survival DLC. They can even throw in to the mix some building capabilities like Fallout 4 which is far better than Fortnite's building IMO. Building would act as a shelter for the extreme weather so that would make it different and more interesting than Fortnite's limited building system.

Do you really think that the type of trend-chasing hackjobs that are currently spamming us with Battle Royale games would switch to deeper, more expensive, riskier genres such as RPGs?

If Battle Royale wasn't the in thing right now, they would still be making shitty survival games. Or mobas before that. Or grey and brown military shooters before that. Or hero shooters if we are lucky.

The best RPGs are passion projects attempted by the talented studios of the world. They'll do their thing regardless of the current trend while uncreative halfwits continue to flood the market with half-efforts in the latest fad. That's how gaming has always worked.

Nobody should be surprised, sad that devs aim for $$ always over quality  passionate game designs,no wonder the market has gone to shit. Then MOST of these players are just jumping on the popularity bandwagon, just like fashion wear that nobody wears until a popular star wears it then all of a sudden it is popular.

Of course they are. Ubisoft wants to wear money hats 24/7 just like Epic does.

Could be cool if they do it properly. I think the lore behind The Division is awesome. If they actually go after this, I'd like to see them do something without the whole shrinking death bubble. Haven't really thought about an alternative, but there's gotta be a unique way of forcing players into fighting rather than shrinking the map. Perhaps randomly increasing the contamination levels to force players to keep moving or something. meh.

Why don't we dumb down the gameplay of every game out there and make them BR only? We don't need to concern ourselves with diversity of gameplay or the strength in depth of gaming. All we have to do is chase the numbers playing because that has to be right.

I look forward to the Candy Crush mode in the Division too. :)

So why blame the game companies when players are the ones jumping on trends and bandwagons?

Game companies follow player trends after all - whats the point of spending millions of dollars on a game that nobody wants?
I don't blame them for following the trend.  I blame them for not having the foresight to look past the quick buck and realize they're conditioning the consumer base in an unrealistic direction.  Entire games for free?  Then games are worth nothing.  Only the items sold in the shop are worth anything to the player.
