I backed this game (the basic package) but i am unable to see why i would bother to play it, lots and lots of fluff with some space combat that tbh gets boring real fast.
You may want to give it to a friend. Maybe (s)he likes it.

    Have fun
Have to say... that is pretty shitty advice.

Like the other poster, i have just the starting package i.e the basic starting ship and yes atm it gets boring pretty fast in that ship. Hell its the basic starter ship... its expected to be boring, what games starting crap isnt?

Personally im waiting until they add progression into the game and rank up through the ships as the game is intended to be played... i dont think you should be suggesting people give the game away because they find it boring in the basic starting crap.

There is still a whole lot to the game to be added than what a basic package offers you atm... but im waiting patiently for the game to develop to experience it all. I appreciate people spending loads on funding the development but personally i want to progress through the game... not the cash shop, so basic starting crap is alls i'll experience until the game is developed more.

Is server stability better? Haven't logged on in a bit.
I want to know too!  Hows the stability? FPS etc?

Is there no opportunity for you to earn a new ship just from playing the game now, or are you restricted only to ships you have pledged for?

The beefier the CPU/GPU the better ofc. But absolutely mandatory is a SSD and at the very least 16gb ram.

That is to play in the Persistent Universe alone, for Arena Commander / Star Marine the requirements are much less demanding.

Improved FPS, but there are crashing issues making it annoyingly more frequent, there seems to be a 3.1.1 patch in the works to mitigate the issue, also to cut back on the insurance and so costs say crashing in several situations making you loose credits because of it.

There is not earning yet no, if it comes in 3.2 it will most likely be temporary balance until the game has enough content and higher tier (more rewarding) content to make the costs cope with the earning rates, the data wipes on updates are quite complicated to that also.

You can earn the game internal money REC by playtesting. And a starter ship is enough to get REC. With that you can try out in "Arena Commander" module other ships /modules / weapons  than the one you pledged for. For instance i have a bit shy of a million REC ... which means i can try basically any ship i want.

Which also means it does not "get boring fast".... there is already a LOT of variety already in ships, equipment, weapons etc.

Umpteenth possible combinations (you can calculate it if you want: a few dozen ships and variants with a dozen modules of each type with a few dozen weapons on up to a dozen hardpoints (gimballed or not) ... that is A LOT of possible combinations).

According to the current plan the "kiosk" should in live in 3.2, which would also allow to buy stuff with the aUEC money you earn for mission running and trade in the "Crusader" module (the Persistent Universe module). Which will allow to test more beyond your starter ship.

And even now its not that hard to check out other ships ... just ask a guy/gal  if you can hitch a ride on his/her ship ... and see how you like it.  That usually leads to the best and most fun moments in the game.

That's what I do, it mostly falls in multi-crew, even though there isn't much cooperation in flying together in the same ship attm, the more stuff and stations that come online within the less it becomes about owning and solo'ing with your ship on "higher tier" stuff.

    Star Citizen Patch 3.1.2c

Alpha Patch 3.1.2c has been released and is now available! Patch should now show: LIVE-743249

It is strongly recommended that players delete their USER folder for the Public client after patching, particularly if you start encountering any odd character graphical issues or crash on loading. The USER folder can be found (in default installations) at C:\Program Files\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE.

    Major Known Issues:

•Arena Commander and Star Marine will be off for the first part of this patch. We would like everyone to focus heavily on PU gameplay to stress the servers as much as possible. •All Station NPCs and Shopkeepers are standing idle at their starting locations.

    Feature Updates

    General

•Minor tweaks to player crash recovery system.

Bug Fixes •Fixed AI pirates and security spawning on top of one another when comm arrays are switched on/off. •Ships should no longer duplicate on the ASOP terminals after making a claim. •When switching game modes the loading screen should no longer show the previous mode. •Fixed bounty hunt missions not completing properly or having correct naming. •The loading screen should no longer finish too early and cause an audio corruption. •The rear elevator on the Reclaimer should no longer be unlocked all the time.

    Technical

    •Fixed 6 crashes •Fixed 2 memory leaks. •Performance tweak.

The requirements must have gone up. My rig does not have a SSD but I was playing the PTU last year. It wasn't as smooth as it could be, but if functioned.

SSDs make sense for most things these days. As processor & gpu speeds increased the speed of data access from storage has become more critical.

That said as/when/if you look at upgrading I suggest you check out M.2 NVMe storage. There are two differences between this and a "tradtional" hdd/sdd.

    1. Form factor. Essentially instead of the memory inside an ssd (the platters on a hdd) being inside a box they are on what essentially looks like a piece of RAM. Long and flat and excellent for laptops, tablets etc. etc. This is the M.2 bit.

The second bit is the NVMe part which - simplistically - uses PCIe lanes to get data to the system. Less overheads etc. which makes it faster than ssds. Quite a lot faster than ssds.

As far as cost goes ssds and M.2 NVMe are now about the same price. SSDs were slightly cheaper initially but at the end of the day the memory used in both is "the same" and NVMe are easier = cheaper to manufacture but they were newer so there has been a bit of a premium. The latest versions though are seeing cost reductions due to 64 layer manufacturing techniques and low (in the case of Intel's very low) power consumption figures. In fact Intel's new 760p has been dubbed the ssd killer in some reviews. Other new M.2 NVMe from e.g. WD have also come out as have updated Samsung options.

    NOTE:

An M.2 NVMe needs an M.2 slot! Manufacturers have been putting them on motherboards for a year / 18 months now but for people with older motherboards fairly cheap adapters are available - $10 or $15 that type of price range.

Yeah we built my fiance a firebreathing rig last year. The liquid cooling system we originally got her was too big for her case and we still have it. In the not too distant future I'm thinking of building myself a rig based around that cooling system.
