Maple Story 2 Closed Beta Test is in full swing this week and the kind folks over at Nexon invited us in to look. This gamer has a long standing, love-hate relationship with overly-cute and voxel games. Trove has helped soften my need for MMORPG realism preferences, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp also offered some resolve but I’m still not completely at ease and need to know: Is Maple Story 2 enjoyable for someone like me who's also never played the original? I couldn’t wait to jump in and see!

    Great write up. I just dunno...those chibi characters just don't do it for me. Shame though given the features. :/

    But it's what you would expect from Maplestory, that was the aesthetic of the first game as well. Honestly I'm surprised they kept it so close to the originals art style, just in 3D.

    Is there a reason this game isn't listed on this website? I mean you have games listed that aren't even MMOs. Really having a lot of fun in the beta and looking forward to launch.

    On the flip side my wife is excited because of them lol.  Seems to be a love it or hate it deal.

    I kind of like the chibi look, but they're all the exact same size and all humans or very humanoid? Also the view doesn't foster immersion. Still, sounds like it has a lot going for it.

    My house has Britney Spears in it just to be random. I only just noticed after so long that the characters don't have noses.

    This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

    I love unlocking stuff also, I'm cautious but at the same time very impressed with the customization and vibe. Fun for days!

    Well didn't get a key, so waiting for the next beta I'm afraid. Hearing some good stuff about this game.
