With the first Memories of Mars closed beta nearing, 505 Games and Limbic Entertainment are working hard to ensure that players have unique ways to play. Devs have introduced their own twist on the survival genre with the introduction of Seasons, periodic solar flares that "wipe the planet's surface of all life and player-made infrastructures on an ongoing basis".

Wiping out everything you've achieved and doing all over again and again, sounds more like a chore than fun. What a terrible concept.

Some people really like that stuff, seasons on diablo, leagues in PoE, heck even fortnight is playing on that start over mentality just on a quicker thing.

only then after a season in diablo and poe is over you can keep that char in normal if you want to, fortnight is not the same, how much time it takes a session of gameplay there?

problem is you spend months on something to get wiped, that pretty much invalidate any survival, its kinda useless you try to survive if you will die in a couple of months

Most seasonal players in Diablo and league players in PoE don’t care about the character they kept, they’re perfectly happy to get back on the treadmill.

Server wipes in a survival game keep it fresh.

    Or completely put people off...

Risky move in a over done genre if you ask me. But i think the survival thing is not a safe bet either. So might as well go for something different i guess.

Just would not be something i cared about, but i am not their market anyhow, do not do official servers in these games at all.

Since this game is FULL loot PVP, solar flares are the least of your worries.

It's the psychotic, rabid 12 year old, ADHD, battle-royal monsters whom are going to be infesting this game.

When i see the term "seasons" that game gets two huge thumbs down from me.
FRESH?? Haha i still play UT99 20 years later, all i need is some good maps,i don't need "seasons".

Seasons in Diablo and POE are even more laughable, what is the point?Your going to race to your fave build and just rinse and repeat the EXACT same game play over and over and WHY?
At least if you have an actual RPG game and are improving your character,it is permanent your not wiping out all your efforts just to satisfy some cheap meaningless ratings system.

I do not understand the modern mentality of gamer's,they seem to NEED to see their name in lights, they NEED to be high ranked, what happened to the VERY high majority for YEARS claiming it was all about the game play?

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Applying a nich mechanic to an already nich game doesn't sounds wise to me, hopefully that decision is not set in stone and i guess is nice that they're trying to do something new with the survival genre, we'll have to see how it goes..

Complaining about server wipes is part of dealing with it, in the end most people are happy with it. Admitting it is something else.

It's like work, everyone complains about it but most could't do without

Also, me and the people surrounding me love seasonal and don't care for rebirthing your characters nor the leaderboards.
