It seems that there is always a divide between gameplay and graphics. Invariably, people seem to want solid gameplay over modern graphics. What is a game you'd like to see with a fresh coat of pixel goodness?

I jumped back into Anarchy Online recently. Yes, its from Funcom. I can avoid them, though. The graphics are brutal. Blocky, with crude animations and very outdated images that hurt my poor eyes. Still, I think there are some pretty interesting game concepts that I'd like to explore.

Kyleran on yours sincerely
'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
Gdemami absolutely not being an armchair developer
The engine alone was enough for me to not play it although i enjoyed the couple hours i put into the free version, just not enough to endure that horrible engine. A visual overhaul would at least hold more people's attention for some time.
Never going to happen but oh well.

You can see my sci-fi/WW2 book recommendations.
Cow shaman. They just got to go.
I don't have a problem with EQ1 graphics. Several of the initial zones have been redone (Freeport, Commonlands, Ro), but the original Karanas and Qeynos hold up well. If they're not enough, you can always revisit much of the early game with one of the expansions.
EQ2 has 'adequate' graphics for an older game. If they put any work into this one, the engine swap is far and away the #1 issue for me. Loading screens everywhere, and slow ones at that. Even at launch, EQ1 was smoother in regards to the load screens. (Not that EQ1 didn't have it's issues -- bouncing off Barbarians in the QHill-to-WKarana zone and zoning back).

Sure we can overhaul, update the textures but if the game play is still weak, why bother.
How the graphics update is done is very important as well.I don't want to just see nicer graphics if the frame rates are struggling.
BDO has nice graphics,FFXIV has nice graphics,i don't want to play either game because they are not good enough.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Blizzard would say, well WoW is still doing really well; but for AO, UO etc that might be the best idea. Sequels in MMOs have a history of not doing that well, so for me rather than do a AO 2, redo the original game, some new content and gameplay systems and you are more likely to be on a winner.
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
Lord of the Rings Online
Everquest II
Fallen Earth
If they did that my choices would be (in no particular order):
Mabinogi with graphics like Peria Chronicles and less clunky UI/combat.
Bring back Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine also with similar cell-shaded graphics to Peria Chronicles
Bring back pre-CU Star Wars: Galaxies with SW:TOR graphics or better
Bring back The Matrix Online (pre-CR 2.0 with live events) with better graphics
Anarchy Online with any modern graphics that won't look so dreadfully outdated on anything newer than an antique early 2000's era VGA monitor. (I imagine it with graphics similar to the Borderlands series lol)
These games were all fun back when they still had a healthy population. Now they are either dead or have so few players they may as well be dead. I've tried to get people to join me in some of the games on my list that still exist but not enough of them could get into it because "the graphics look so old" or "the UI is confusing" or "the combat feels clunky" or any combination of those. it is sad to see perfectly good games being shut down or put on life support in favor of the more aesthetically pleasing yet uninspired games that are being made these days.
I'll add in a couple of single player games -- the Might and Magic series and Darklands. Darklands was one of the most inventive things to come out of Microprose in 1992. It would be great to play that again. Anyone have a PC with floppy drives these days? I haven't had a floppy drive in 20+ years.
