Looking for a new game to play

omicron009omicron009 Member UncommonPosts: 16
I'm looking for a new game to play that's mainly PvP.  I've been out of gaming for a few years (kids), so I'm not up to date with all the new games, so i'll make a list of what I'm looking for.

- MMO
- PvP
- open persistent world
- short level grind or no levels (new players can compete against veterans)
- crafting optional
- little or no focus on PvE

Basically I'm looking for a moba style game (combat and leveling), but in a MMORPG style world.

I've been looking around the last few days and it doesn't appear that this type of game exists. I'm not sure why.   Moba's are a lot of fun, but I miss the open world of a MMORPG.  Has anyone combined these two?

I only have 1-2 hrs to play when I have time, maybe 5 hrs per week, so spending 50+ hrs to hit max level just to participate in PvP is out of the question. I don't have time like I used to.

Does not yet exist, though Camelot Unchained (target release end of 2019) and Crowfall (can buy into playable alpha now) are your two likely best bets.

BTW, you have the same amount of time as you ever did, just choosing to spend it differently.

Back in the day I learned just how little sleep humans can survive on, just to raid in MMOs.

I would definitely check out Project Gorgon, it is not expensive, is extremely in depth and complicated, both in crafting and development-wise. It is made by one of the original Asheron's Call developers, graphics not great, but the game is......

He can only spend 5 hours per week which greatly restrict his choice.
Project Gorgon is a classic MMORPG and requires lots of time to achieve anything.

I would echo "Planetside 2" if by "Crafting Optional" you mean "I don't ever want to craft anything!!!"

Planetside 2 is an FPS made massive and persistent. Don't expect it to have any more real depth than any other FPS. There is no crafting, no economy, just a giant constant battle in an open and persistent world.

Because of this, it's going to work for your limited time schedule very, very, well.

If you are looking for a more in-depth MMO I might say EVE. If you live in high sec or do factional warfare you can pick it up and play when you want, and do so pretty enjoyably for 1-2 hours a night. Crafting is more optional in that it is there, and you can do it, but you can also just make your money blowing crap up. DO NOT JOIN A NULL-SEC CORPORATION. Don't do it! 1-2 hours a night simply will not cut it for that.

Do faction warfare like I said. This can be done fairly enjoyably solo, and quite enjoyably and profitably in a corporation that understands your playtime limitations but doesn't care because they live out of stations and just need more bodies to throw at the fight.

Big thing here is if you are looking for action combat go back to looking at Planetside. Eve is all about timing and tactics. The combat system itself is dry as hell.

It is the little or no focus on PvE that limits the field, I would try Plantside 2 as well.

Hey, wait a minute now, I just rejoined EVE and a new null sec corp and playing about 2 hrs a night.

What seems to be the problem?

I know you are not asking for single player games, but if you can't find anything.  Spending some time in The Witcher 3 won't hurt.  Amazing game that has raised the bar on open world RPGs.

GW2 and Planetside 2 were the last 2 games I really played for any significant amount of time, but both about 5 years ago.

I actually tried PS2 again recently and it's fun, but it's still missing depth.  I wish territorial control meant more and instead of 3 factions, they had none. They should allow players to create guilds, control territory and form alliances. Expand resource management and I'd be hooked.

I also wished the game had some sort of large scale PvE events. PvP is great, but sometimes you want some variety. The world never really felt alive to me.

There's also a difference between starting out and having several accounts each with millions and millions of ISK and all the ship parts you can easily replace.

Not very Massive, but an intriguing MMOMA none the less, I might give it a look when time permits.

I'm going to reassert my suggestion of EVE then. EVE sounds like what you want if you can get past the lack of actiony combat. Or at least as close to what you want as you will find on the current MMO market.

@Kyleran - Sounds like a pretty casual null-sec group if 1-2 hours a night will cut it. But if thats working for your alliance then I'd suggest @Omicron099 should talk to you about your alliance if he wants to do null sec when/if he joins EVE.

Yeah, I purposely chose it because it was so casual, and an exception to the rule in EVE.

As you said, most alliances in EVE require far more time and dedication to really be a part of.

While there are quite a few corps and alliances for "newbros" the one I joined is really for more established players with the skills already trained for profitable null sec living.

All too true, a completely different game which is one thing I enjoyed.

The activities I did over the years changed many times as my skills, experience and number of accounts and wealth increased.

This is still true however, but today as before, new players normally won't be flying supers anytime soon. (Unless they pay for it of course)

Most of the MMO's I know you have to do PvE for awhile before you get to PvP.  Except GW2 if you get the package that comes with a free level 80 and gear.  You can run into PvP zones and hunt for awhile and call it a day when done.
