Stupid questions about the gameplay

I played this game for a short amount of time when it was first released.

I didn't play long because I couldn't get over the docking/undocking process.  It was too slow and tedious. Mainly because I wasn't a good pilot and spending 10 mins trying to dock was not fun.

I gave it a few days, but even when I got the hang of it, it still took too long for my liking.  I'm hoping it got easier or they added some auto-docking feature.

I remember there were also a few animations you had to watch that were 5-10 seconds long when certain events triggered. All every annoying. I think there were a bunch when you docked with a station and accessed certain menus.

I know I'm nitpicking here, but being forced to wait and watch animations is a huge pet peeve I have with games. I just can't play a game like that.

So basically what I'm asking is this.

1) Is docking/undocking easier?
2) Have some of the animations been removed or shortened?

Docking has always been up to you, as in there is an auto dock module that you can buy at most stations. The down side of which...it takes up a slot. But for those that want auto dock it is there..always has been even in old game, but it was much more expensive in old elite.

The "animations"...i assume you are talking about entering into and exiting warp or hyperspace to go to other systems? If so yes it is still there, and will always be there.

Space is all about going to other star systems and planets..so this game might not be for you. Traveling has down time, that they fill with the warp or hyper part of travel that you see. It is not instant travel, will never be.

    1) Docking is super easy with the auto-module, and they are very cheap now; I bought mine a long while back and I want to say it was maybe 3k?  They aren't much, and it makes the process...well, automatic, lol.  It does take up a slot but it's small.  You can of course dock manually, only thing I would say to that is, watch it if you wind up buying a big ship, or at least make sure you're mostly sober when trying to manually dock one of the big suckers.

    2) As the guy/gal above me said, as far as animations, the primary one is the jumping process, and it is indeed still present.  Doubt they would remove or change anything like that since it is an integral part of the game.  You can stretch your jump range out all you like but you are still going to have to jump multiple times if you're doing any sort of exploring.  You can mod your FSD to shorten its cooldown, but the "frame shift drive charging" animation/process is very much alive.

Thanks. I just watched a video of someone using the auto-dock module and it still took about 60 seconds to dock.

I don't know, I think I'd get too frustrated if I gave it another shot.  I've played quite a few space sims over the years, but none that made you fully dock and undock.  It's quite an annoying mechanic and I'm not sure I understand what purpose it serves other then to slow things down.

    Thanks for the input.

The jumping or hyper space animations were fine.  I think I remember it was inside a space stations that had a bunch of animations.  If I selected a certain area, the ship would have to go up or down or something like that, I don't remember exactly.
