Thanks to @AIBQuirky for finding and posting the video below in another thread.

This is what we really know so far about FO76 so far:

  • It's a survival game with a couple of dozen players
  • It has PVP on always - even when you "solo" - so it's no different than most other survival games in that respect.
  • No there is no offline mode
  • No there are no different "server" types
  • There are no human NPCs and no NPC factions
  • There are some robotic quest givers
  • Quests will be mostly of the "found in the game while exploring" variety but the game is not quest-based
  • When you die you WILL respawn with all progress - no need to start learning and researching from scratch
  • No idea what happens to your items when you die but it sounds like 100% full loot from anything I've read or seen.
  • The graphics engine is "current gen" and seems to be the same exact one used in Fallout 4

PVP always?  Then I can say with 100% accuracy that this game will be Mendelless.

According to wiki (your suggestion) it is an mmo.

"Although modern MMORPGs sometimes differ dramatically from their descendants, many of them share the same basic characteristics. These include several common features: persistent game environment, some form of level progression, social interaction within the game, in-game culture, system architecture, membership in a group, and character customization."

Why do we need another thread talking about what is in the other 10 page thread?

    It is completely skippable.

Something that is always online and always PvP will have no tolerance for a Bethesda style always bugs.

    Because Wikipedia is wrong?

Massively Multiplayer is what defines the genre first and foremost, interacting in a single persistent world 2nd, after these two everything else is debateable.

    Hence the debate continues.

I think that sums it up.

I personally love all of this as its a multiplayer online game (mini-mmo?) and I only tolerate NPCs in single player games, since this has no single player - they ditched the NPCs as well and thats awesome IMO, exactly what I've been preaching for years.

At least this matches up exactly with my idea of how much questing and NPCs suck in a multiplayer environment - yeah lets put this guy over here and have him spit out the same line of text forever - to any player that ever talks to him - just have him say the same shit for all eternity.  Yeah great design.

So happy they did away with that crap.

Also I welcome the PvP focus.

Having said all this without actual first hand experience I dont know how fun the gameplay will be - in theory it sounds awesome to me, and I sure dont mind the griefing aspect, but need a ton more info before I can say - thumbs up or thumbs down.

As long as we are not forced to gather food and water for hours like in othet typical survival games like picking bush berries and shit.... yeah please no

Put like this, it has no appeal as PVP centric games aren't for me, will probably just stick with EVE for my MMORPG fix this year.

Conan Exiles still sounds like the better survival game for me to try out one day, once its "finished."

One thing I hope they do is put in ragdoll physics so I can pick up a dead players body and fling it around for fun - have the respawn timer on like 30seconds - so they are forced to watch lol.

The best griefing is AFTER they die, you know :)

Be even more fun if they included the mod that lets you put players in a bag and carry them around if you manage to knock them out.

Well the way they Describing it, it sounds like the Multiplayer maps of 7 Days to Die. In 7 Days to Die multiplayer maps, you can play Solo as the server owner ( hence when you log off, everybody also gets kicked), but random people can join your server even against your will. You can be in a server of your own, playing by yourself and a random person joins your server and you may not even see them cross your path. But in some cases you will cross paths. Some of these people will be Trolls, as we know from 7 Days 2 Die, who will try to either straight up Destroy your work, or befriend you to infiltrate your base and then turn on you. Yeah I sound bitter....

Doesn't matter what it is or what it isn't... gamers will play it no matter what.

Gamers are a mob that run from game to game as soon as it is even available to play (in any damn state).  If you listen closely, you can hear them roar "To the neighbors!" as they advance on the next new shiny that is announced.

Basically what he is saying - sure you can go solo and get owned by groups of other players, if that's what you want.

They can't force you to group - but it's a PvP game so solo at your own risk
But they don't really want to say it that plainly because that would cut into sales of those who will buy it accidentally thinking they can solo in peace.

One thing that I find personally amusing - here we have Todd Howard - a man who has been hating on ZoS for years to the point where he wanted to have that entire division shut down due to operational/staff costs - and preaching how  Bethesda's single-player games are the future.

    Lol what happend to that?

Here he is embracing always online and even using ZoS built megaserver tech for his own game, hahaha.

Man I hope there's a video somewhere of Todd talking to Matt Firor about using ZoS tech for his game - actually I doubt this ever happened as the 2 can't stand eachother.
I'm sure you know what happened. He is a company man. Someone higher up wanted more multi-player and so "he got on board".

Happens all the time in companies.

Well, as I am compelled to eventually play all Fallout games I will wait "a bit" post release to give this a go.

But my patience is pretty legendary,  Fallout 3 didn't impress me so it was about 9 years until I got around to trying New Vegas in 2017.

This one could be longer.  ;)

Mini-mmo?  You mean just regular ole multiplayer?

    Mini-mmo is redundant.

EDIT- it's become hilariously sad how badly folks want to avoid using the plain term "multiplayer" to describe, well, plain multiplayer.

I rarely say this so early on in a game's development, but... I'm out.  The forced PvP would already be a dealbreaker, but so's almost everything else on that list.  It all adds up to what will likely make for shallow, repetitive gameplay.

Looks like Cyberpunk might be my last hope, or else I'm likely to get much more exercise(gasp!) next year.

Just watch how he says it (right around the two hour and 29 minute mark of the video.) Solo play is the first "question" he answers... "of course you can play solo."

The how and PVP on 24/7 part is not even all that clear in the presentation. You need the follow up interviews for that and even there he's still deliberately not being clear about it. Just watch at 2 minutes 10 second of the video interview in the first post in this thread.

He did say there is VATS but it just won't be able to slow down time because of the multi-player aspect. No idea what that actually looks like though.

I must have missed the part where he said the focus of the game is PVP. Is there a link to that? I saw the part about him explaining that it will have the great exploration and story that all of their games are known for.

I can see how this is off putting to fans of the other games. I think when a studio makes a turn like this it's important to clearly differentiate brand identity as to not confuse or upset their consumers.

    RECLAMATION 76

    (Based on the Fallout Universe)

After several games of single player immersion they come on board and leverage the brand name to throw survival OWPVP into the mix. That IS jarring. They should have first announced a decent DLC for the latest Fallout to appease their loyal base and then dropped this bomb (no pun intended) on the gaming world. It would have greased the doorway.

With all that said I'm definitely trying this, as I have managed to hold off on playing the previous titles and have no preconceived expectations. I think Bethesda will get all the things right where others have failed.
