Soft Launch Pushed to 2019, Russian Distributor Found & Engine Licensed to Another Company - Crowfal

Hopefully this means they can scrap the "soft launch" approach, and just do a full launch when it's ready.
    So much this.

Take your time and launch a polished, tested, working game. You will only hurt the game by launching it before it is ready.

I feel that if any other company than Roberts Industries had the financial backing that his game (Star Citizen) does, they could have and most likely would have been a lot closer to a complete game. Compared to SC, Crowfall is on a shoe string budget. I feel if they had the resources we would be seeing a game far closer to completion.
You think they would do it any different if they had like 50x their expectation amount? If they just kept to their original plan, what would they do with all the extra cash hanging around, bank as profit? Hire 100s more staff? to get it done faster (i don't necessarily think that's a good thing).

You think people would have the same expectations or even the developers? If you had 50x your goal, wouldn't you want to improve on your original plan if you had the freedom to do so?... all while continually raising more funds.

Could say use the extra for future content, but that isnt what people are funding. People want the best possible launch and i think that is what crowdfunded developers want to make, even if that is different to the first billboard they laid out at the start when they were wondering if its even possible to raise what they was asking for.

I think it would be alot more shocking if a team raised 100m when asking for 2m and only ever used 2m of it and just delivered a 2m product.

    That's a little basic.

The longer development takes, the more it costs.  Those saying "take your time, we want a finished, polished product" would love to see Artcraft have more than ample funds to finish the game, because at that point the devs don't feel the pressure to hype a "release" (of the "soft" or "early" kind) just to bring in another injection of funds to continue development.

Obviously, at some point the extra cash is truly a surplus for finishing the original vision, but it's not quite so simple as stating "if they got more, they'd be trying to do more and we'd be back in the same position."

    > Russian backers and customers will find "improved communication, service and support".

The term you are looking for is "a reservation" - just like when it's used for similar segregation of Native Americans in USA to isolate and remove them from the rest of society.

I wonder if Ukrainian, Georgian, Moldovan customers will be fed to the Russian distributor as well? These countries are de-facto in a state of war with Russian Federation. And what about regional IP blocks - yes/no?

    Thank you for your time!

Any speculation about the studio that is licensing the ArtCraft MMO engine? I wonder what kind of game they will make. Hopefully it's good and not crowdfunded

This game has officially died (for me) with two words "Russian Distribution". Age of Conan was the last time I ever game with Russian and Eastern europeans, their culture of hacks and exploitation is one of the largest in the world.

It's beyond ridiculous that people still are willing to sacrifice the good of a game, for quick cash.

I thought the Russian distributor was only for Russia. They're self-distributing in North America, and have Travian distributing in Europe, Middle-East and Brazil.
Exactly. Once again rampant nationalism raises its ugly head.

I think Russia is a wonderful country with great culture and amazing people. They are just under a questionable leader. Can't America and many other countries say the same?
Gaming is global so developers and publishers have to think globally for the best return on investment and to make their dream a reality. The more players the better!
I agree , until I get cheated out of my gaming experience.  PVP is a completely different beast then PVE, and Russian players who pvp will do most anything to win.
Funny story. Read several articles like the one below, over the past 10 years China has topped the list for most hacking.

Number 2 on almost every list? The United States. Russia almost always comes in like 4th or 5th.

Someone better get busy and ban those damn American cheaters!!!

To be fair... a cyber attack is quite different than hacking your own gaming client.

I think of it more like soccer hooligans than organized crime.

Yeah, I know.  Wasn't a whole lot of statistical evidence about game hacking, much less client side hacking by region.

It is always the other guy never us.

Europe does not even feature on the list, I am rather let down. I suppose I could include Turkey as part of Europe but that's pushing it a bit. But in the spirit of us all being in it together I will. :D

Yes and no.  Back to my soccer hooligan comparison :  There are crazy fans everywhere but some are known for being far more into hooliganism (is that even a word?).

Enormous leaps in reasoning aside, regardless of the -ism in question, when you start generalizing about the entire group of people instead of looking at individuals, you're treading on shaky ground.

Like your signature, I think you've gone full tinfoil on this one.
Eliminating Russian region before the game launches is the one of the easiest ways to keep hack programs from spread, because it keeps the game code from being decompiled. Once any game is released in hat region, good luck.

Black Desert / Rift / WoW  and many other had bot and hack increases once they released in the region, only ignorance and SJW's would ignore this fact. videos speak for themselves, and I've lived through the devastation these hacks had on Age of Conan, with only 20-60 people playing on pvp server currently.

Crowfall is done before it even started. Remember I said that when players rush to the forums to complain about hacks.
You managed to pull the SJW card in a discussion about hacking.

Given that it's a Kickstarter game, this should come as a surprise to no one.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
