BDO allows it's entire economy to be permanently destroyed while Devs work on Music/Graphical Update

deadtrackdeadtrack Member UncommonPosts: 57
Current State of the Game: Heading into the Abyss with Bless Online & Archaeage

News Update: BDO released Sea Content that was intended for groups.  Instead players found various ways to solo the content including avoiding a party with cannons and just ramming the sea monsters with their ships.  This along with various other cheats allows players to make billions of silver each week completely ruining the economy.

The result has been mass inflation on pre orders and possible permanent damage to the games economy.

Meanwhile the developers spent their time hiring musical composers and updating their graphics to a point only high end PC's could even run them.

What a waste of an MMO

If all the crap you write every time on this game were true it should have close 1 month later, i think this started by someone envious that ppls whitout high end gear could make the same money of someone farming hystria or akman and 100% they never touched sea content and they don't know the effort you have to put farming every day for 10 hours and all your guildies have to do the same and tell me how the hell you force 30ppls+ farming so much every day, it wont work for long.
I personally got bored of sea fast and whit my guildies it preety much ended after 2 hours, ppls don't have a boat/accessories/bored.
Hackers will ge banned soon, don't make it a national case

These issues are well documented and covered on their own forums.  People didn't just post opinions, plenty of facts and evidence where submitted.  High end items doubling or tripling nearly overnight.  Payouts received in the billions.

Don't get all triggered and try to pass the blame on this.

Every hardcore gamer in the world should know you can't rely on gaming companies to prevent hacks/cheats/bots.  Blizzard has to ban them by the 100,000's at a time and has never been able to stop them.  Neither has any other company and much do a far worse job.

This issue is compounded by the cheating, but it's also due to sloppy coding, and lack of testing.  It's poor quality work from Pearl Abyss as usual.  Just like the Vell content that doesn't even function for most players and may as well be removed from the game.

Don't let you ego get in the way of the facts.

BDO also massively inflates it's player base.  Don't fooled by AFK mechanics.  The game is designed to give the false impression it's populated.  The bay looks filled with fisherman and people "logged in".  Many who haven't touched the screen in hours or days.

While there are things that need attention, them hiring composers and updating graphics is not the issue.

    At all.

Doesn't take an entire development team to hire a composer. That's really just done with a minimum of people.

Updating the graphics isn't even "them." They hired another company to do that.

So those two things have nothing to do with them not fixing what you want.

This review reinforces a lot of the issues.  Pearl Abyss lacks direction and knowledge about MMO's.  There are many players and experts in the field that know exactly what's going on.  That is due to first hand experience playing the game or playing games in the genre for years.  This experience can not be gained by design artists or owners that don't even play games.

You don't just hire a symphony to compose music and do graphics for a "remastered version".  That is a major project that also uses a lot of funding AKA game resources that could have been used elsewhere.

That money should have been spent on new leadership to take BDO in a better direction since the only place it's going is straight down.

The active player base has been taking massive hits and it's becoming apparent for players.  Some are easily fooled by using Steam numbers, but it's widely known AFK accounts are a LARGE portion of those stats.

My point is that they are separate. Separate budgets, separate groups; separate.

The money they spent hiring a second company to deal with graphics and the money the spent on music have nothing to do with the departments that develop the game. If they didn't spend the money on those things that would not guarantee they would spend it on adding content or making changes.

And they can add content and make changes even though other stuff is done.

That is exactly how it works.  They chose to use the resources on graphics/music INSTEAD of fixing critical issues in the game like Vell, PVP balancing, AI, content, smoothing out leveling, better progression, fixing the economy, etc.

Those things DID NOT HAPPEN.  They could have happened.  However, they did NOT.  Get it?

Money is everything.  Money is hiring the best talent.  Money is resources.  Money is man power.  Despite the claim that only comes Pearl Abyss that they hire the best talent in the industry, when it comes to game design they hire the worst.  Not only do they hire the worst talent, they refuse to get rid of them.

One of the real reasons behind something like it either A: Terrible management B: Lying about the wages and they are hiring poor quality, low talent developers.  That would coincide with everything they do.

It would also coincide with moving their efforts toward mobile.  When the Black Spirit game was re-released this was apparent.  No company would ever release a non functional completely broken mini game that is supposed to be an event for all players.

It was disgraceful to the company.  Not tested at all. It would error for everyone within seconds of trying to play it.  Obviously not finished, obviously not tested.

This is another mass hysteria like that of p2w, and maybe this game create hallucinogens, however the dev will listen the players and do something to satisfy them, does not matter how absurd the requests are.

Have you ever think maybe these afk ppls have a work or study and they can not play all day, however they contribute to the economy and if they leave the pc turned on for so long is becouse they like the game and thinks it is worth doing it and becouse the game has value and it's worth = these people are fully part of the population of the game, is ridiculous to try to find escamotages or smoke-screen to try to say the the game is not popular.

Even now as I write this message I am "afk" fishing, so what would it mean? i'm not part of the game? I am not logged in? or when I go to the bathroom, i can't even go to the bathroom or i'm not part of the game WTF

Is also impossible to find words to try to say that this game is not a success after two years, the hater must find the most idiotic motivations that the human mind can imagine, I am stunned and despite i'm playing in eu and my english is not that good I had to make the effort to write this, no words

No, it's not how it works. They are not taking away from departments to work on other stuff to the complete detriment of those departments.

That's not how budgets work. What are you thinking? that they decided to lay off the designers, ai designers, world builders, so that they could hire an orchestra as well as another party to work on the graphic updates and then once that's done they rehire them?

Are you thinking that "everyone else" who works at this game studio is just sitting around drinking coffee and shooting the shit around the water cooler saying "well, as soon as that other company finishes the graphic upgrade and the music/sound guys record new music THEN we can actually do something?"

Video games are ways to pass one's time enjoyably.  AFKing like that is circumventing the entire point of the hobby.  I highly doubt it does anything especially beneficial for the economy, either.

In general, encouraging players to AFK logged in for hours at a time is piss poor gameplay philosophy (if you can even call it a "gameplay" philosophy) as well as a huge waste of resources on both the server and client side.

And this game is so good that does not seem true and this encourages me to play more than I should, the developers have to be so evil that they create such a game.

Ancient relics are the basis of enhancing and other materials created with afk are the basis of crafting lots of things, (but most of the times they add something you need to gather on your own) however if there is a game mechanics and someone over uses it, leaving the PC on for days is not the fault of the mechanics that is excellent and has a specific reason but of those who abuses it.

Yeah man, IMHO, if you feel like the Dev has betrayed your trust then def move on. Don't give them any more of your traffic, money and, more importantly, your limited time. Tell them how they screwed the pooch with you, and then log out for good!

    Gut Out!

If you take all those screens and videos and do not add a story behind they can mean anything, they can be money from someone who plays 12 / day or guilds that don't send the payout for weeks etc, btw hystria / akman you can do 50kk / hour and I know people with the right gear that do bil / week, on top of siege payout, but apparently it's normal.

If we're speaking of video games as a pastime, creating systems that don't require a player to actually engage them is counter-intuitive.

Those who abuse it do so because the system has no safeguards against it, such as sufficient diminishing returns for fishing the same spot, for instance.  The devs could easily have included safeguards to prevent rampant AFKing, but it seems they are ambivalent or wish to encourage it.  Which, again, wastes resources for both the consumer and producer.

It seems less than productive from a game development standpoint.  Spending resource on players not actually engaging with the game.

It is circumventing the game and making playing quite pointless to be honest.  The original reason behind AFK play was to make the game "appear" more active.

Then when people look at Steam numbers their so called "active users" appear much higher than they really are.
