    They answered my question, woo!

Although now I wish I had been more specific. I was thinking more along the lines of specialty ammo like sleep bolts, poison arrows, etc etc.

For Regular DPSing just use infinite ammo....but for powerful effects rather than limiting the scope or balancing a coll-down just make the ammo consumable.

Nah. What will all the millenials do when they run out of ammo?

    I've got the straight edge.

Woo!! They asked if there will be a Barbarian race. Brad said it would be possible beyond launch. Can't have a Brad Mcquaid game without Barbarians.

Some millennials are close to 40 now. They are basically the target audience.

So are they hoping the EQ people will move over to this because the improved graphics? Most players like PvP, PvE, group, and solo content so they can play how they feel that day.

The game will have similarities to EQ1, but the dev team has played and been involved in development of more modern games. The devs have stated countless times that PRF is not inteded to be an EQ1 clone with improved graphics. Time will tell, of course, but your idea about what game the devs are seeking to create is wrong.

I was watching a live stream video done by HiveLeader in which at about 4:04 and 4:23 he stated the game is basically an EQ1 and Vanguard successor.

You are quoting someone who isn’t a dev. Yes there will significant similarities. The dev team often says PRF will be a “spiritual” successor to EQ1 and Vanguard, which I take to mean that some of the major design principles will reappear. But a clone with better graphics? No, that is not the idea. Like I said, time will tell, I’m just pointing out that the devs are not seeking to make an EQ clone w updated graphics here.

It may be their intent not to make 'an EQ clone with modern graphics', but that's what they are essentially doing.  I can't be held responsible for the self-delusion of others.

Your hostility to this game is very weird. Consistent, I’ll give you that, but weird. Maybe wait until you play or test before forming such a confident opinion. You lose nothing by doing so, and we gain the absence of your strange hatred for the game. ;) Or keep flaming zzzzz

I am unwilling to take developers at their word, especially at this time.  I want to see something more tangible than words on a website to see how something actually works.  I also don't want others to be so confounded certain that because a developer says one thing with some pseudo-flowery prose that is the how the implementation will work.  It's far easier to paint a picture with words than with pixels and code.

I'm sure that I want to see something different than a 20-year old design paraded around as the latest and greatest.  Six people standing around a mob wailing on it until it dies, with specialists healing, performing crowd control, debuffing and the like.  Been there.  Done that.  And so has everyone who's ever played an MMORPG.  Some have confused the words the developers have spoken with the code they've implemented.

I'm also uncertain that a company can resurrect a 20-year old model and claim a sustainable share of today's market.  That hasn't been done.  Maybe it will; or maybe they will face huge financial problems because their expectations are too high.  There are a lot of companies producing game that are relying on this hidden hoard of players to give them money.  These companies seem to be laboring under the impression that "if they build it, we will come".  I'd rather see a company designing a game around taking players from Call of Duty or Fortnight than hoping a market segment materializes.

It does me no good for Pantheon to fail.  That only hurts everyone's expectations, the supporters and the developers.  A failure of any game at this point in time may well crush any hopes of other developers entering the field wanting to make new games for everyone.  My personal wish?  That Pantheon succeeds and VR goes on to make another game, a better game, based on the lessons they've learned.

Weird?  Possibly.  I'm just trying to look beyond the obvious hype.

Well, there are a lot of people who are eager to say "screw it" and go back to that 20 year model.

    I know I am.

Unless some developer decides to make the game "in my mind" there are absolutely no mmorpg's that I'm interested in playing "except this one even at face value."

The problem is not what the devs are saying as they are still in development. I'm sure what they are saying is exactly what they mean up to the point they decide to change it.

No, the problem are the people who are looking for concrete promises and allow their imaginations to run away with them based on these promises.

I should also add that you aren't the audience for this game. You aren't. The people who aren't complaining about the "20 year old model" are.

So "you aren't but they are."

And I suppose "I am" as I was solely subbed to Vanguard up to the announcement of its closure. Not "SOE pass" but Vanguard.

There are only two real concerns, and one of them you've mentioned:

    1, Can they finish it
2, Are they being realistic about how many people they will need to sub.

They don't need to have a million subs. But do they need to have 250k? That may or may not be doable. But 250k is far more realistic than 500k or 1 million.

I know it's a long episode and not a lot of people can listen to it, but there was a whole segment on "What is Pantheon doing differently" and their answer was simply to check out this site here

    https://www.pantheonmmo.com/game/pantheon_difference/

I would certainly check it out if people believe that there is "nothing new" to Pantheon, and they're just updating graphics to a 20 year old theme.

They have certainly learned from the past decade.  While I wouldn't say that people should always take everyone just by their word, and in reality, what we hear and what comes to fruition are often two different things,  if we're basing everything simply off of design decision, or intentions, Pantheon isn't just okay with the same old formula.

Whether one chooses to believe it or not is another matter.

Pretty much how I feel. "What they say and what they end up doing may be two different things." So I'll watch and make the odd comment until I can get into a beta and see for myself, unless the reviews at that time are not the best.
