If they pull off the MMO/shared world zones, I could see this game filling the void that Marvel Heroes' closure left. Hell, judging by the quality of previous Torchlights, if they can pull that off, who will even miss Marvel Heroes anymore?

People who want to play a Superhero I'm guessing.

So stoked about this! So excited to hear it is pve focused.

Am I reading this right that it will be an mmorpg with a level/dungeon editing tool so you can make maps for your friends? That would be stellar!

Sounds good, the trailer looks great -- PLEASE tell me this isn't going to disappoint me and actually turn out to be one of those ortho-view, playing with little figures games like Marvel Heroes!

Sorry to disappoint you, but that is exactly what it is and what it should be. Torchlight has always been an isometric dungeon crawler.

I love ARPGs but Torchlight never grabbed me even though I really wanted it too. Its loot, the fighting, it never felt satisfying to me. A shame really, I want to be excited about this and I've tested their previous MMO attempt Mythos a lot before it got cancelled and I liked that more, go figure...

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

It's all about the payment model. They could craft the best aRPG ever made and completely destroy it with a crappy cash shop. As far as I can tell, they have completely avoided the subject so far and I don't see that as a good sign.

Waiting for cash shop news, everything else is irreverent until they open up about it.

A cash shop just doesn't work in an ARPG, even if it's just cosmetic (as that would mean all loot in the game will look like crap, to force you to pay for shiny cosmetics). The whole point of these games is getting lots of loot. Nice loot!
Just look at what the Real Money AH did to Diablo 3 in the beginning. It nearly destroyed the game. There was such a huge backlash, that Blizzard was forced to remove it as fast as possible (still took a year....which is the amount of time I stopped playing it, until it's removal and the revamp of the horrific loot tables).

So yeah.... I can agree, if they go the stupid way of F2P with cash shop.... I am out.
ARPG's should just be Buy 2 Play. They can release DLC content packs instead to keep a healthy cash flow. Would be perfectly fine with that, as long as they contain meaningful content.

Epic games is gonna get so fucking fat :D Everything and their dog uses Unreal Engine 4 these days and knowing their licensing deal, they are going to fill the coffers.

On the upside, the game will probably look gorgeous and will be properly optimized since the underlying engine is properly structured.

Now all we need is ... game.

Damn I was just thinking that. :O They do need some form of queable battlegrounds though and more than 1. 2 or 3 for starters. That would put it on top! Like a CTF! 5v5 or 10v10 :O They should really look at the Gaz staff and see how many things they failed on and go from there.

I can't help but think that the announcement of this game was a direct response to Perfect World seeing the empty space in the market after MH was closed. Clearly industry eyes must have been on it, given that Trion had enough interest in Gaz to purchase them.

ARPG's at least as long as they follow the seemingly terrible definition of SPAM killing, will never be a MMO or a even a good rpg.
Like seriously,an ARPG has always been about spam killing, one after another non stop so how or why would a group or anymore than 1 player be involved so then why pretend to be a MMO?

IMO their ONLY goal is to create a title/platform that enables more ongoing profits.I have seen that trend the last 5+ years, logins with no real game design supporting multiplayer.Point being that APRG's do NOT support multiplayer.
So what could they possibly do to pretend,oh yeah copy D3's ill fated auction house,no that is not remotely enough to justify calling your game a MMO.You could utilize an auction house without seeing any other players.
Unless i see distinct improvements on the so called ARPG genre this is imo simply a ploy to make money and not to improve upon a very simplistic dull genre.

PoE has proven it can be done without ruining the looting aspect.

Make a good game and people WILL pay for minor cosmetics and pointless things like.. coloured bank tabs.

The BEST way to guarantee long term success in this industry right now is to earn the player's respect. Games like Warframe, PoE and Fortnite are leading the pack. They aren't after a quick buck, they want to retain players to generate a steady long term income, that's the priority. It's still about the money but they chose to offer value instead of price. The players get to decide the worth of the game and because of that there are soooo many players and will be for many more years to come.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

We get it. You dislike ARPG's. Now that you've gotten your pointless, incoherent, incorrect rambling out of the way, go contribute nothing to the conversation on another genre.

It's really wonderful that these devs have yet another chance to realize their dreams. Now that's determination. I hope it meets with success because there really isn't another PvE focused MMO coming.

Hmm, very nice. This sounds promising. I personally love Path of Exile, but I hate that it's not an open and persistent world not shared with players other than those who you're grouped with. Hopefully this will be a nice blend of PoE and an open, persistent world.

AH. Well, FINE, but then, WHY is there NO indication of such actual gameplay in the video? People like me who watch that trailer would never imagine that the game wasn't going to be a regular, full 3D, first-person or over-the-shoulder view game. This bugs me. It's like those commercials on TV for puny mobile games that show luscious CG characters, actions, and interactions, and they're really just move-your-tiny-pieces games. Except those usually do give a brief glimpse of what the game actually looks like.

They probably figured most people would already assume it's a top down ARPG just because it's Torchlight.  Which makes sense on some levels but definitely not all levels.

My opinion on the matter of perspectives is that it is wrong to expect a series to change something as fundamental as its camera perspective. It would be a disservice to fans of the prior games. Some series (like Mario) have the resources and prestige to simultaneously juggle two or more different sub-series with different camera perspectives and please everyone, but most have to choose.

A majority of all video games exist in the first or third person perspectives. Enjoy those. Isometric ARPG fans are criminally under-served (and usually by half-efforts at that), so the announcement of a a new game in one of the premier ARPG series is a bigger deal to us than 'just another game' would be to you.

I mean shit, the game considered to be the pinnacle of this genre literally just became old enough to vote, and the genre could reasonably be described as stagnating ever since. We need a breath of fresh air.

We definitely can use a game that covers part of what Marvel Heroes did, which was light, casual grinding.

Since Perfect World is publishing it I will remain cautious, their games are usually just a thing to facilitate their cash shops.
