Everything this scam artist does, has a catch. I wonder what catch this "free" weekend has?
That is one of the single company letting anyone download a project in Alpha phase with a fraction of final content and bugs. Full transparency. Also quarterly patch are now delivered and the next 4 patch will provide most gameplay and features promised during Kickstarter. Bot Solo (Squadron 42) and Star Citizen (MMO) for the price of a single Triple-A.
3.3 planned for release mid October during Star Citizen convention.
Unplayable for me. Took minutes between menu and gameplay then performance was so poor I logged out after a couple of minutes. More time looking at the loading screen than actually playing. It's a real shame that my first impression of this game is that it is unplayable.
It is very playable indeed even with a medium PC configuration. Mine is an old I5 and a GTX780 with 3gb... far to be a robust. Still I get a goo d35 fps and loading screen is about 30 secondes... then no loading screen for the rest of the game. Not bad at all. Like with WOT... it is close to mandatory to use an SSD. This is a chnager. Also this is Alpha 3.2.2 and is not optimized as this is always the last thing done.
... On the other hand, they've always been upfront about designing for future hardware, and as much grief as I give the CIG management, I think that was a smart choice.
The problem is that SC's development is taking so long that the "future hardware" they've been designing for will be outdated by the time they finally get to launch, lol
Taking so long by what standard? 6 years by end of Nov. 2018 starting from scratch with 12 guys, 6 M$ and no pipelines or studios... While Publishers with Billion $ are not doing better and serve us the same game with different skins every 3 years. At least Backers are making the game they want to play.
Beta is very probable by end of 2019 based on current roadmap with quarterly released patch.
Cool, I'll email them my hourly rate to play this.
Is it that bad? I still haven't tried this. Love E.D. and No Mans Sky is this worth a DL?
It's a huge download but might worth it if you like space sims.
The flight mechanics are dreadful (especially if you like ED) and there's bugs and not much meaningful things to do... but there's some people who like it.. you might be one of them.
Both games are not finished, well as I am sure you know NMS was launched but with hardly any game. We are now in the age of Never Ending Stories for games which over shoot development for years, don't really have enough gameplay when they do get out and then are re-released a few years later under a different name.
How about No Mans Gameplay and Starship Owner for these two?
Seriously I do expect we will get a good game from both of these given enough time. I just don't see how they can expect to get my money or time until then.

Joe, you're compaing apples to oranges. CIG have perhaps 25% of a single star system done, they probably have 10% of all the gameplay features done, if that. And that is after 6 years and $150+ million.
How much longer will it take to get all the systems and all the gameplay features/mechanics in place, and perhaps more importantly how much more money is this going to cost?

No Man's Sky was still finished at launch, in a way. You had the whole galaxy, and could play a complete game in it. That game was just a too light on content.
Star Citizen is unfinished on a completely different level because the individual game mechanics don't quite form up a game yet as there are so many mechanisms that are supposed to join them up missing from between, and performance and stability are at level of alpha.
They should do a free flight is after the next update with the long-awaited performance stuff releasing. At the moment if you're under 16GB RAM you can forget about it.
The problem might be that a large engine update always brings stability problems. Right now their core tech should be in relative stable state since they've had more than half a year to fix it after 3.0 release. It might be worse after 3.3.
It's always a giveaway, I've noticed on games when major optimizations are done, on the other hand it worsens stability, but that is normal stuff that'll get fixed. The 3.0 was an immense amount of tech and backend systems replaced at once, this is just one major piece of tech that is labeled as the priority of the engineering devs, so doesn't seem they have that massive pressure of 3.0 with all at once.
We're just to see how much will be the gains, as it's not 100% better performance because they are putting in more NPCs and stuff happening in the background. Hopefully, it's this one that network culling finally comes with OCS.

Lol that's funny coming from ed fanboy since there's more gameplay in this alpha than there ever will be in elite that released 2014 lol
Talk about "being desperate"... More like buthurt.
Oh and ssd and 16gigs is minimum to test the alpha. If you dont meet those requirement you wont make it out of the bunkbed lol
I haven't played nor invested in this game, but I do think this is a nice move to allow the opportunity to introduce a lot of potential players/customers to the game. I've had such high hopes for this game over the years, but throughout those years all of those "country club" pricing packages I read about have dampened me on it from ever playing it if/when it releases. Nevertheless, if I had the computer that good run it decently & the connection speed that could download it expediently I know what I would be doing till the 27th.

You've not really thought this through have you.
You're saying a game which has had 6 years of development has more content than one which had 2 years of development....
If you want to make comparisons then compare the 2 games as they stand now, bearing in mind the amount of staff working on the projects and the amount of funds spent.
Are you really saying Elite has had 2 years of development?
Lol now that explains everything. Guess Elite 4 develpment never happened either because it was before they changed the name to Elite:Dangerous...
And ED had a hufe team behind it:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/elite-dangerous/credits
Oh and CIG staff is working on 2 games not just one. And both Squadron42 and Star Citizen dwarf most AAA games in scale, scope and fidelity.
Just recently we've known that God of War took "at least" 6 years to develop. While Wildstar around took around 7/8 years...

I'm saying that Elite had 2 years development when it released in 2014.
If you really think there was loads of existing content from this imaginary "Elite 4" why was none of it shown at the kickstarter? Why did they not have anything?
You'd have a point if Braben had said "We've been working on the game for a year already and it will be out in 2 more years, any longer and things will get stale." But it wasn't Braben who said that, it was Chris "Bullshit" Roberts.
You know Braben has answered this already so quit with the trolling. Trying to make this about other games to take the heat off "your" game is patheticly childish.
A game foundation and systems can take more time to develop than art assets.
Oh and talking about getting stale when the last meaningfull update yo ed was back in 2015 with planetary landings lol
That's why ed fanboys keep crying about space legs and atmospheric planets and NMS and Star Citizen have been playing in them

How would you know when the last meaningful update was, you don't even follow the game let alone play it...
For someone who cries so much about people posting with no clue about Star Citizen you sure are happy to do the same to other games. It's always the same with you.

Yeah, and despite the bragged upon ""We've been working on the game for a year already and it will be out in 2 more years, any longer and things will get stale."", it turned out that Crytek had done the initial crowdfunding video teaser work.
Still, the chance to check it out is free. I suspect that the download time might be longer than the fun play period. Though that'd probably depend on your download speed.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

10 minutes? With SSD and 16GB of RAM? That's impossible.
The usual around this: (1min for the SSD, over 2min for the HDD) in question.
There are some game servers that when messed up result in loading and average FPS way below average, you'll notice the game is not even using your GPU to its capacity when it happens.
