The major reason MMOs like WoW and LOTRO (as two examples) don't work for an "MMO"RPG

I play Eve and UO as my Primary games .. UO for over 20 years and i get that the danger its fun ..

And Wow as PVP servers that offer the same danger , altho no looting ....

We all fully understand the atmosphere that Eve and UO games bring to the MMO enviroment .. But that alone does not negate Wow MMO mechainics

Entertainer profession in Star Wars Galaxy where they sat in a cantina and played musical instruments... surely you're not suggesting this is not an MMORPG either are you ?

Give it up you don't have a leg to stand on.

OK, but is that WoW now, or it was? Second, for multiplayer gameplay we have few elements - multiplayer goals, multiplayer rules and mechanisms, multiplayer rewards. If any of these is singleplayer - so nor competitive, neither cooperative, the game is not multiplayer. You can say if OW WoW is such or not.

Obviously if the players can attack each other for farming spots, the game has FFA PvP, but then if the PvE is solo - the game is not a MMO, because the PvP does not affect the uninvolved players - BDO is a good example for that. But if WoW has FFA PvP and competitive and cooperative FFA PvE - it is a MMORPG.

Take EVE - you can play solo, but in every moment you are in danger from the other players, you can cooperate effectively with them, and you compete with them. It does not matter if you play solo or in group. Same with L2.

What makes the MMO is the massive interaction between the players. They may never see each others characters but still to interact trough the actions of the other players. Like stones thrown  in the water that spread waves.
Your explanation for what is an MMO, makes both of your examples MMO's. I played L2 from start to F2P and it was an MMO in every sense. It was (is) even an RPG. So your own definition argues against your assertion.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

So, you do realize by you saying that two incredibly profitable, successful mmorpgs, that both have been on the market for well over a decade don't work is a pretty dumb statement. Yes, we need something new. But that's really meh.

All MMO means is not a single player game, yes you can play WoW all by yourself and not interact with anyone IF you choose but all those things can be done in a group.  The fact the quests refer to people in singular does not change that you can do those quests in groups.
Of course you're correct. WoW can be done in groups, and many times groups make the experience more fun. But when reading what the NPC "Quest Giver" says, for some players the records scratches and they do a double take, thinking to themselves (or out loud), "B-B-But... WE did this as a group? Why am I being singled out?"

Sure, it's no big deal. You did a quest, or quests in a group. What is being said is that the dialogue was written as a single player one, not as a group. The rewards go to everyone (if I remember correctly), so really if one skips through the dialogue, nothing to notice :)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

Not again. Just because you like grouping doesn't mean everyone else does, or that they should be forced to do so. People play the way they play and it's up to them, that's the definition of choice which is what an MMO is supposed to be. You will just have to deal with it.
You've had your account since 06. I assume you played older MMOs then right? Games like XI, Lineage 2, Everquest, and Ragnarok Online.

How do you not realize what the OP is trying to point out with those experiences? Are you that much older than me that you gone senile?
I live to go faster...or die trying.
