I’ve often thought this would lead to a completely different feel. I imagine more rewarding when items are acquired. The source of income would be subscription based.
I'm not sure any company would do something so unheard of. That is just too radical of an idea man. This thread is just too much for any company who may read this to process in their mind.

What?! You mean a game with an even playing field and no credit card whales to tip the scales. A game where everything you see on another character was rightfully earned in game? My word man, you're on to something here...
I don't think the current market is ready for such an idea. What else are people supposed to do with money they would've been spending getting into alphas/betas and buying cash shop stuff?

because when in game shops made their appearance people used them against better judgement. Now everyone use's them. Even when some games make millions for the company its not enough they will always want more and if they dont get what they got the previous year with extra then they cry and think of more ways to get more money out of teh playerbase for that game.

It won't work, for sure it won't, why even bother ?
Istaria has probably least intrusive monetization. You pay to play and for your 15$ enjoy everything + one land plot*. Your cash may be used to buy: a) A La Carte Upgrades 5 extra characters: $4.95/month 100 consignment slots: $4.95/month
b) Character Name Change Token ($4.95)
c)Character Recovery Token ($24.95) d) Character Transfer Token ($24.95) e) Character Copy Token ($9.95) f) Character Appearance Token ($9.95) g) Merchandise Setup Token ($9.95)
So the only paid privilege is to change your toons appearance, from gender to name.
Great idea, please keep us up to date on how your kickstarter is going.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
Took MMO industry years to slowly get the playerbase to accept the cash shop as the new norm.
They are not just going to abandon the money maker.
But I think there are some games that would be *much* better without the cash shop entirely - namely ArcheAge as the prime example - and I am still hopeful that this will happen. if not this year with 5.0 - next year since XL would need to rework a lot of the game elements that depend on the cash shop.
But to turn back the clock on cash shop for the entire industry - nah - the cat's out of the bag.
AA was one of the best PvE games I've played. To bad they cut it off at 30.

Besides the subscription, no cash shop and only purchases will be account related services, like charging for server transfers or character renaming.
I like it.

Back in my day we didn't have much money we could only spend $14.99 a month !

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
