How about we skip the video game and jump right into the movies. All i keep seeing is Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones as Vin.
No thank you. She doesn't have enough range for the role and isn't at all convincing in any role that demands combat.

Now Maisie Williams actually has the perfect build, appearance, and range to play Vin.

Agreed. Maisie is awesome and has handled the complex development of her character from tomboy to master assassin extremely well. Much better actress than Clarke IMO.

It's also a great fit. Vin is basically Arya except with a romance arc instead of a revenge arc.

I like how everyone is saying they'd prefer Mistborn or Stormlight archives.... you guys realize this is all under the Cosmere universe and is completely interwoven right (hence the people appearing in them all for, so far, unknown reasons)? Also, I would love to be on Patji with my Aviar. Screw all those hippy universes.

Being intertwoven doesn't make them indistinct though.

Mistborn lends itself well to a single character or an alternating character (Vin and/or Sazed) action game, but its one-or-all approach to powers makes it less suited to a character creation RPG (because, let's face it, no one wants to be limited to a single one-dimensional power and the world can't justify a bunch of random Mistborns running around). Something akin to the Witcher's alternating perspectives between Geralt and Ciri would be a good template. Or perhaps something more akin to how Shadow of War handles its two alternate characters.

Stormlight Archive would be a phenomenal setting for a MMORPG or RPG with character creation, given the diversity of its world and more diversified power sets.

Right on Bro. I want a nickle for each agree, a dime for each insightful and a quarter for each awesome. I'll negotiate my ESO guides separately :)

Sanderson has contributed to the success of young authors for ages.

His entire Warbreaker novel is available and comes with writing process notes on his website for free as a service & teaching tool to aspiring writers.

He, alongside a few others writers, also contribute to a free Writing Excuses pod cast to teach aspiring authors.

When I say that Brandon Sanderson is my hero, it goes beyond just him writing my favorite books or freely offering his IP to one of the best developers in the gaming industry. He is a great person and an irreplaceable member of the writing community.

If they were able to make such a good game with Witcher, they'll do amazing with Mistborn.

Never heard about this dude, but I like him already. Also quite a few people in here seem to be impressed by his work. I might check it.

I would start with the original Mistborn trilogy. They are relatively reasonably-sized reads with perfect pacing and they're a great example of Sanderson's storytelling style.

You could also start with his original, standalone novel, Elantris, or read Warbreaker for free on his website.

The Stormlight Archive is his best and most ambitious work, but it is ongoing and is a daunting read, with each book dwarfing a George RR Martin novel in size.

I know he can't offer Wheel of Time but I am just about to start the last 3 books (that he helped finish off) of that series.  I will find out what I think of him as an author at that point but it has to be less of a trudge than the previous books.

Smart move on his part.  Game gets popular. . spin off TV . .  Sell the books. . make RPG, board games etc.  Would love  a Wheel of time single player game or MMO though.
He did an admirable job, but it was crazy hard to do for him. I had a lot of trouble getting through the last three books, because Brandon had a lot of trouble with one of the main characters "Mat Cauthon".
He just couldn't get Mat right in his last three books. It was just way off and Mat just didn't feel right. :(

Robert Jordan made Mat a very intricate character and maybe too complicated and as such Brandon just didn't manage to replicate his behavior and character correctly in the final three books. Mat Cauthon just felt like a completely different person in the last three books! It was a real shame.

It's still worth reading the last there books. Especially the Last book is outright Epic with a fantastic conclusion.
Just the more it's a shame it got a bit spoiled by him not able to get Mat Cauthon's character right in the final books. :(
I have to disagree, I thought he did a great job continuing with the characters, especially Matt.

I thought he did a fair job, but have to agree about what he did with Mat. He turned Mat from an awesome rogue into a buffoon. In the last book, you can clearly see the difference in writing from Jordan and Sanderson where Mat starts off a moron, then is back to his usual awesome self.

Also, Perrin was Sanderson's favorite character and it showed. WAY too much Perrin in those last 3 books, ugh.

I'm glad the series got finished, and there was enough Jordan in it to do it justice. The positive thing about it, I read Sanderson said after writing the first draft, it taught him a lot about writing epic fantasy and he went back and rewrote his first Stormlight novel.

I didn't even know that Wheel of Time had been finished or who had continued it. I gave up on it a long time ago (I think it was after volume 32 :)) because I found it too hard to keep up with all the characters with a year or more gap between books.

Sounds like it's time to dust them off and read them back to back like a good and proper binger should... I'll cue them for when I finish with The Expanse.

"The Wheel of Time turns, and ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legends fade to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the third age by some, an Age yet to come, an age long pass, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings or endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.

Wait, so learning that a creator that you've pirated the works of is a good/generous person makes you feel less guilty for said piracy?

Easy to be critical of what Brandon did but, I suggest, the 3 books he wrote have to be seen against the big picture.

Robert Jordan knew he was dying. Rather than embarking on a world tour with his wife however he opted to "complete" - as far as possible - the WoT. And kudos to him for that.

Brandon, working with Jordan's wife (also RJ's editor), was tasked to "tidy up" these notes and part written sections to allow a final 2 books to be published. 2 books!

In the end it took 3 books not 2. Even though fundamentally all he did was to advance the story directly to the end - ignoring a plethora of possible side plots, character development, buried puzzles and so forth. Which Jordan may or may not have left notes about. As I said above he sometimes seemed to go "off-piste".

Could he have engaged in developing the characters further? I am sure he could.

Would he have been allowed to - remember he was almost a hired hand in this though?
Would he have wanted to even if he could have - remember he has his own characters and story arcs. Remember he signed on for 2 books.
Would the readers - who wanted the end - have waited while a 4th or 5th book was penned. And some, I am sure, might have accused him of getting it wrong.

At the end of the day I think he did the job that was in front of him. And I feel he did a credible job. There were limitations on what he was allowed to do however - which is why I used the term "journalistic" above.

I'd rather see a game set in the Dragonlance setting. So many different characters and stories to tell. Could start with the original three books as Tanis for the first game, and have a squad system. Then have additional games for the Twins and other characters that got their own books. Playing as a different character for each game would allow you to experience the world from various perspectives. So you could enjoy the world as a whole instead of getting overly attached to a single character and avoid dead-ends (like how mass effect just doesn't work without Commander Shepard now).
