A current Baldurs gate 3 rumor is making the rounds. Development by Divinity: Original Sin developer Larian Studios. Apparently an RPG Codex user mentioned that they knew a former Larian developer that was working on it with inXile Entertainment’s Brian Fargo. Thought this was some interesting news. Please read the full article.

@ceratop001 - Please see your PMs

On topic - I had seen this earlier today. If it's true, it's great and I can't think of another studio I'd rather see take it on than Larian.

Hope it is built to support multiplayer.  Would really take it to another level if it came with a DM/Build your own mode too.

Oh thank god.  When I saw the title of the thread I was just thinking "Please don't be Beamdog.  Please don't be Beamdog."  In Larian's hands though my worries are non-existent.

What specifically about IWD puts in over BG for you?
I actually enjoyed all the books that took place that area best(Icewind Dale trilogy) also , But i think Icewind Dale had better flow to it , more combat stronger loot tables .. Over feel , and altho there wasnt as deep or intertwining story lines , as BG2 for ex.. There was not Circus tents to save either ..The story was cleaner , more believeable immersion for me

I loved both and I thought BG had a better story but IWD you could have a full custom party.  To me, that's more important.

I'm loving this revival of these type of games. I don't have time to play all of them, but they're in my Steam library for when I retire.

Why is the Baldurs gate games so popular?

That looks truly sick. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. Is there a suggested release date yet, or is it too soon? Definitely looking forward to to this, thanks for posting this one.

I love Baldur's Gate 1& 2 and Icewind Dale 1&2 just wish someone could enlarge the figures a bit. That would make my day.

This if it comes true I will play it as soon as I can.

Nice. I think Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the best rpg ever made, finally tipping Baldurs Gate 2 off the throne. If anyone will be able to make a worthy BG successor Larian Studios is the top choice.

So Is it a new Baldurs Gate 3 or or someone continue that old Baldurs Gate 3 that was in production over 10 years ago?

Really? Was Beamdog's remasters so bad? (I have not played them yet, though I do have their BG 1 & 2 remaster.)

Interesting "rumor", though. It will be interesting to see how (or if) this pans out.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I feel we have had way too many of these sub par rpg's released of late, they are outdated ,low quality puny characters with low detail, not something i would endorse.

Even for the time of 1998,BG,yes i own them all played them, was a good game but EQ1 just a year later was a far more aggressive design and took a lot more effort to make.Only 4 years later and FFXI designed for a heavily restricted PS2 came out and again a million miles ahead of ANY BG type game with lack of even the simplest camera movement.

It is called "VIDEO"gaming,i want to SEE detail in the armor,i want to see my player ,i don't want to look at eye strain puny little characters with a locked camera.Systems, yeah not many in those cheap games, non open worlds and very linear.

Can you tell,i have no interest in seeing anymore of these cheap games,i want to see games that look like they were made in 2018.Divinity Sin's,Bard's Tale, geesh we even had that total garbage game Trion was trying to pan off on us that folded up shop a few months later.
To me it just proves how bad the industry really is,people are so bored they are trying to relive their past to find enjoyment in these games.

Fargo is with inXile, formerly of Interplay who published the Baldur's Gate series. Is he connected with BeamDog in any way?

BeamDog have done pretty good with the Enhanced Editions technically speaking. They have recent experience with that format too. Since they just did BG1/2, they could be working on a third installment.

I think Larian is just a well regarded studio and people want to see the game in the hands of an accomplished studio. I'm not sure what Larian could deliver that other teams like BeamDog, inXile, or Obsidian may not. It would most likely be 5th Ed with modifications approved by Wizards.

Are there any exclusive licensing agreements for D&D computer games or the Forgotten Realms? That would affect who is working on the project.
If inXile get it... JUMP.. and I mean JUMP on any Kickstarter or early purchase they might offer.  I haven't actually played the Bards Tale 4 yet but the sheer amount of stuff they threw at us was incredible.  Free Wastelands 2, Free Bards Tale 1-3 (old and remastered versions)...plus the BT4... for $25.
