I'd be playing on PC, and if there's any way to form a "clan" in-game, I'm down to start one up and join together.
I've found that pretty much all survival-type games with base-building and such are best played with a group of folks who all know what the end goal is for the group. I'm also okay with giving it a week or so to let all the inevitable networking issues be ironed out, as well as ensure that we don't pre-order into a Watch Dogs-esque fiasco.

Today, one of the youtubers I'm subscribed to uploaded an exclusive gameplay video of Fallout 76. If anyone is interested in seeing it, here's the link:

They mentioned Sony isn't helpful before, but it might change.

OK, I'm in for sure, bought a copy today, had to buy at least one new online multiplayer game (OMG) this year.
Now there is a straight forward and accurate acronym for you .
For sake of being a pain in the ass I have to say that's not an acronym but an initialism!

Why do you people insist on calling in an MMORPG when the developers themselves stated it cannot be one as it only supports 24 players? Do you know what a small scale MMO is called? Multiplayer. MMO-lite is not a thing because that is called multiplayer too.
I've been a long time reader of site but never actually cared about discussing most of the topics, sadly this time i have to warn some of you.
From my perspective Fallout 76 is absolute shit, i've seen 1hour footage of this game. It's looks dreadful it's ordinary FPS with Fallout 4 skin. Obviously for some of you it's gonna be alright.
World is empty due to no NPCs. No story telling you just jump right into it, you don't feel connected. From footage i've seen there's no radio, it's just complete silence.
Edit:There're Notes. It's something.
It looks as if it's just Fallout 4 with a couple of mods.
Oh boy, the inbalances... The guy playing was level 6, he was fighting level 5 Super Mutant with Pipe Pistol, he killed mutant with 3 shots. WTF?
I'm not sure about the PvP system, seems like loads of hogwash.

I just want to say that "small scale MMO" is a bit of a contradiction.
as to the actual game info: it just sounds like a super casual "baby's first" survival game, I'll probably pass.
On the plus side I've never really played a survival title (except for Xyson many years ago) so I'm OK with it being a super casual version of one.
I loath the whole forced eating and drinking all the time concept anyways. Or punching bushes.
Is there bush punching in FO76?

So if someone wants to kill you, you can log off and pick another server is it. That's good. I hate it when people impose their PvP on me when I am not interested.
I may decide to play after all. I was going to avoid it because of the PvP. I dislike people destroying what I build.

Not that I know of, thankfully.
Oh I'm sure you could punch bushes if you like. I mean, I feel there's still room for those who have vendettas against shrubbery, it just doesn't appear to be as productive as it is in most survival titles.
It seems the new way to say, "hey little kid, would you like some candy?" is... "look, we have multiplayer!". They know people who would normally pass on the game are attracted to games that allow them to play with "friends" and/or to buy cosmetics that display a player's willingness to part with their money in hopes to look unique like the thousands of others who spent their money on the same loot crate or whatever. I really hope the next Elder Scrolls doesn't resemble this.
Any PvP game worth their salt - if you log out under attack, your character remains in game until the end of combat (cannot be saved by logging out)
This is not really a PvP game. There are multiple ways that you can make it unfeasible. The most common issue will be someone joining in during your PvE combat, and a simple re-log will fix that (by putting you on a new/random/unfindable by anything other than chance server) once you finish the current combat.
Umm - can you kill other players - yes.
Can you destroy their Settlements (not C.A.M.Ps) - yes.
How is this not a PvP game?
If look at some of the newly released (non dev) gameplay footage you can see how ineffective attacking another player is... unless they fight back and trigger the full damage effect. Players have many options to safely remove themselves from PvP. This makes it more of a dualing scenario than what would normally be considered PvP.
As for settlements, there are in game fixed locations that are (generally) non destructible that have assets that players can take control of. If you log off (or are killed in PvP), you lose ownership of them. However, if you log in and there is no current owner, you can take ownership. Players can use their CAMP to build around these.
Settlements can be destroyed via nukes as well. These change the environment, and have a direct effect on settlements. There is no footage of this yet, but I am sure someone will provide it when they do it.
--Edit-- P.S. Here is a good example of how non effective non consentual PvP is:

That makes me curious to see this system in action. From the way you put it, it seems useless to attack players in a CAMP around one of these settlements. Instead, I'll surmise folks will just immediately start attacking the settlement buildings and force the folks using it to either shoot back and open them up to fully PvP or sit there and allow the settlement building to be destroyed.
Unless nukes are the only way to destroy the settlement buildings. That would be a highly specific usage of the nuke feature, and one that seems created wholly for the purpose of pissing off other players who are using settlement buildings using a weapon they can't counter.

There are some details of settlements that have been indirectly mentioned, but I dont want to go into too much detail, as I have not seen a public statement about them. Settlements can provide things such as crafting, quests, and resources. There are reasons why people will want to take ownership.. and this is actually the best reason that I have seen to motivate PvP.... However, with the server infrastructure as it is, anyone wanting to take control of any specific settlement should not have any issue finding an instance where it is free.
I would expect there to be groups that want to PvP, and that they will meet up with other groups that have the same desire. I also think that there will be people who dont understand the PvP system, and will be frustrated by it. Then there will be those that want to avoid it, and will have no issue doing so.
The reality is that players who are looking to cause damage to other players are going to find this game boring... except when they find players who dont know how the system works. Everyone else will either fight back in a balanced manner, or just move on in the blink of an eye.
I just want to say that "small scale MMO" is a bit of a contradiction.

I think this could be an entertaining experience, your perspectives are a bit "different," much as are my own.
We'll either get along well...or try to violently kill each other in game.

This game looks awful from a gameplay view. Everything they are annoucing about it is like a mix of all the things that the game industry have done wrong in the last 6-8 years.
And thats probably why it will sold well and get some nice income flux with the cash shop.

Hmm, I get to kill super mutants, death claws, radiation scorpians and on occasion other players.
Along the way I get to secure nuclear silos and even nuke others with them.
I'll be guzzling Nuka Cola, chewing bubblegum and kicking arse all over post apocalyptic West Virginia (OK, that probably won't be much different from today)
What game play is missing or a better idea? Surely not a BR mode, that would be a terrible thing.
Besides, I get to kill stuff with an automatic combat shotgun while wearing bright red power armor.....and I'm a f__king surgeon with a shotgun, not that I have to be right?
