According to one credible Destiny 2 Redditor, it appears that Destiny 3 is already starting production. AnonTheNine has written that Destiny 3 has gone into full development with Chris Barrett taking on the Game Director position. The action is being developed with a focus on RPG mechanics and will be "even more hardcore-y than Forsaken".

Destiny 2 should've been Destiny 1 2.0. I don't mean that it shouldn't have been sold as a completely separate game; that's fine. But it should've been everything Destiny 1 was at the time but with more. D2 is far too close to what D1 was to take steps backwards like they did or even stand still.
AC seems to take steps forward with each release, or at least deliver what the previous title had with all-new story content. It doesn't seem to take steps backwards like Bungie has with Destiny.
Loot is still boring and I would love to see public events go even farther than the one on Mercury. I remember how much fun Warhammer Online was and it had phases. The escalation on Mars and the Well are fun but still just a horde mode.
I just feel like Bungie is trying to appear that that they care about what we want while making sure it is hard to actually interact with them. They try to do the least they can to keep people around while making it look beautiful.

1A Release plan says " Fall of 2013,2015,2017,2019"
Its no secret there is to be more than 2 Destiny games, and they did state a 10 year plan originally. I did think though that the game would carry over to the next in terms of progression and it would also allow for new players to catch up somehow.
My problem with Destiny is not the amount of games they release as I will pay for good content that is constantly evolving, but that's the problem the content is not the best and really punishes those players that do not keep up with buying expansions or "comet releases"
Though maybe they'll use that as a way to distinguish the games. play destiny 2 if you want nice relaxing play, play 3 if you want your teeth kicked in in difficulty!
course i doubt that'll be what happens. it'd be too useful...
