We are two weeks away from Reclamation Day! Press and the pre-ordered players alike are ankles deep in the Fallout 76 Break-it Early Test Application, or B.E.T.A, and, boy, are we ever breaking it. Self-cannibalizing PC launchers and massively throttled download speeds aside, Bethesda’s Fallout-with-Friends experience is ripe for adventure once you get there. But, this is why we do these tests; it is a beta after all.

Thanks for the info and tips. I look forward to using them when I hopefully get to play tomorrow.

However, I believe that to be the wrong screenshot. Not to sound picky but I am pretty sure that is Rico from Just Cause 3. I was playing it last night oddly enough since I couldn't get the beta downloaded in time.

aaaaactually, that is rico, from just cause 4 :P

Going to give this one a miss at launch, I might pick it up later on sale or when they introduce the ability to create your own private server. Overall im not liking what im seeing so far to warrant me buying this one.

Just Cause confirmed for Fallout 76!

Just kidding - thank you all for the catch!

I had tried to use the in-game screen grab option to take some cool shots in game, but I could not find a way to access them outside of the client after the beta servers shut down. In an attempt to use some of the screenshots we had on file, we must have accidentally grabbed some from Just Cause.

Opinions vary, its not looking like the PC version is going to be very good at all.

Skillup managed to play the game, kind of enlightening just how bad parts of the game are, particularly the gun play and the PVP aspects of the game  :o

Well I spent my few hours conning people in an uncle Sam outfit with a bobble head. Note that if you do use the bobble head you are immune to headshots. After my 9th victum I had a horde of materials and crafted a 16 turret base inside a food factory that constily was under event that gave slot cool loot and experience It felt like lvling was fast I got to lvl 23 in the short time playing. The best thing is to get people to shoot you first and then pvp them and steal all there stuff. Quite hilarious that you can abuse a system so easy. Working in tandom with another you can bait shooting other people and Rob them blind. Low life and down right drama that enused is what makes gaming with others brings joy to how people come up with this. I can't wait to see what other people do or try to pull off for themselfs. I applaud and welcome it as well as this game is very well done. Where there is a will there is a way. I might seem evil or azzhole but it sure makes gameplay more interesting

Will it be a polished release or is it releasing because the devs have been told to get it out for Thanksgiving?

Imagine that, teamwork in an open world FFA "semi" PvP game. Run around with a partner who acts like a human shield, while you shoot your victims. If they return fire and hit your partner, they can finish killing them without any repercussions at all. This is why FFA PvP games are a joke. When will developers learn that there are ALWAYS advantages and exploits, lol.
Not quite sure that's how it works, (about the partner being unkillable or no repercussions) but it sounds like the key is people chose to fall for the bait and shoot first,  pretty standard tactic in PVP games. (Very much like station baiting in EVE)

The counter is to wait for the bait team to show their hand and then you drop with 6 and roll them hard.

Of course, if they have clear advantage you withdraw to fight another day.

I think my many years in EVE are going to serve me well here.

I am worried though that, in a shooter, baiting can also mean "just run in front of the player when they fire on a mob."  That would result in the player's team member receiving the ability to PvP as described, right?  It would also mean the original person who had no interest in PvP now has both players and a mob after them.

Are there any safeguards for that situation?

They should make it so the first 1 or 2 bullets do not flag for pvp, so the player shooting has time to realize whats happening and stop firing thereby ending that chain of events.

I doubt it. How are you going to differentiate shooting a mob vs. a player? Too much to exploit with this setup and trust me, it WILL be exploited.
    It does worry me.

I have participated in the XBox Beta and for the most part it has run well; couple disconnects and reconnects immediately.

Run into my share of a-holes just shooting at you but the game mechanic works well for the most part. Had one guy I couldn't shake 4 levels higher than me and I engaged him and lost. Another shot and he would have been down. I have also run into some great people and enjoyed some events with them.

I never got into the PC Beta yesterday after the so-called launcher bug. I don't believe it was a bug at all but rather Bethesda deploying a patch about an hour before the beta launch- Really bad call. Also tracing the download (which CRAWLED); it was routed all over the place; India and what not....

It isn't a Fallout game but a Fallout-Experience; survival light game. So far, its fun but the events and other players can break immersion quickly. With that said, the reverse can be true too.

I came across a guy last night nearly ended by a group of scorched; jumped in and helped him out. We spent the rest of the session playing together; him melee, me ranged, tearing up everything we ran into and having a blast.

That's what will define this game for me; those experiences. We ended friending each other and I gave him some purified water (I'm creating it in my camp now)

I hope to try the PC version this weekend. Some of the feedback I have received gives me pause; poor performance, uncomfortable blur effects, lack of wide monitor support (Coming post beta) no text chat. No push to talk options so you hear everyone chatting in proximity unless you mute them. Really annoying frankly if someone isn;t on a headset; you get the echo from their game audio - feedback.

I thought I would hate the new VATs but have gotten used to it. I find it helpful for fast movers but stay away from it when I can target manually.

The PERK system is great - really enjoying it!

Oh and some lament the loss of NPCs and I expected to be in that camp. I was wrong. I really like the stories I have received from terminals, robots, notes. I'm reliving what happened to the Responders and so far, I'm engaged.

Tip if you are just starting out; set up defenses for your camp. I have been regularly attacked by wild dogs and other critters and they are smarter than you might expect; getting in close on my turrets and wreaking havoc. Building barriers and putting down spikes near those turrets has helped a lot.

Last tip; scrap items often. You don't want to be encumbered or lose your hard-earned scrap. There are stashes in train stations and near the initial quest point as well as your camp.

    Dem Todd Rays though.

Skeptical about this one but hopeful, my main concern is that so many of Bethesdas games have been unpolished gems on release, so close to being awesome, but also so far, then along comes the modders to improve on the parts that are lacking and make the games into something awesome.

This time though, with everything being online, I assume this means that modding will be limited to not possible until we get private servers, so it'll be interesting to see how well they polish their own game instead of letting the hugely talented modding community do it for them.

At lvl 5 you can put yourself in pacifist mode so your dmg won't initiate pvp

Wouldn't do much good for players with mini guns spewing hundreds of rounds a minute.

On PC, if you get 200+FPS (most noticeable at that) the game speeds up like you have a speedhack. So you can move super fast and do fast movement. Though I'm not sure if that goes with combat as well

Well, that's one kind of exploit tackled. How about a PvPer shooting you with a partner who stands in front of him acting as a human shield that doesn't engage in PvP unless he gets hit? These scenarios and more are brought to you by a-holes who will find any way they can to exploit the PvP system.
well, if he cant be hit, he cant hit, ait? ^^

but yes, this sounds like something to be worked on :)

Yeah, I was reading about that today that your fps determines your character's physics.

The gameplay is tied to the framerate, so if you unlock the framerate you get a 'speedhack' its a problem with the game engine that Bethesda have used, Polygon have even reported on it, but here is one from SidAlpha, looks like the problem is inherent to the game engine.

To me, it sounds like the 'fix' going forward is trying to lock everyone's framerate and if you unlock it, you're banned or something since it might be too late for them to do something about the engine issue (then again I'm not expert on that kind of stuff).
